A little girl, when she was 8, wandered through a park during a family picnic. In the slick, wet grass at the base of an oak tree she found a small box. It was carefully crafted out of stiff, colorful paper and tied shut with purple yarn. The girl felt the weight of the object hidden inside as she slipped the box into her pocket, careful not to shake it. Later that day, as the sun drifted past the horizon, her mind entertained fantastic tales of the box and the mystery inside.
Seventy-three years later, this girl was now a lady. The colors of the box had faded, a corner had sunk in after being left in the rain, and the yarn was loose and frayed. Even so, the woman had never opened the box. Her good friend Matia, that the lady had known since college, asked her about the box one day. "You don't know who it's from?! Why don't you just open it? It could be something exciting!" said Matia, somewhat uncharacteristically.
The lady responded with a smile, "It could also be something shockingly boring. No Matia, I won't ever open it, although I have opened it many times before. Anytime I had a bad day, was anxious about something—like that speech, remember that?—or even just bored on a rainy day...I'd imagine what was in that box, and open it in my mind. Sometimes it was something wonderful, something that would have saved me from what ailed me. And sometimes it was something completely random, even useless. So no, I will never open it with these hands."
The two women went on to speak of other things and the box held it's secret for the rest of her life.
- !GNITION - A simple little driving game. Navigate the tracks as fast as you can before your time runs out!
- Saucer Attack - Run as far as you can while being chased by probe wielding aliens and jumping over the most inconveniently placed haystacks and fences.
- Processing game - A simple one button game. Adds tempting risks to improve on the SF Cave formula. Pass through yellow and red zones for large bonuses, and chance fate by skimming the ceiling or floor to rack up points.
- Su Puzzle - A tricky puzzle with a simple goal. Connect the three houses to the three utilities, without crossing lines. (Thanks Sam!)
- Climb - An amazingly simple memory game that will test the limits of your memory...simply.
- Ribbon Trail - Deftly control a ribbon of light in this interesting game. Works best on fast computers. (Thanks Nick!)
- Cake Dance - The sequel to "There She Is!!" from last week's Link Dump.
- S0 S0 S0ULFUL - One of the many web art pieces by YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES. Text and jazz, sometimes a story, sometimes poetry. Scrapes away graphic design, video, and other fluff but remains an surprisingly engaging web art. Works best fullscreen with sound. This is family safe unlike a few on the main site. Just as a warning, it is a bit long.
- Magical Trevor - One of the classic toons from Weebls Stuff. WARNING: This will get stuck in your head (like an unopened box) FOREVER! Have a wonderful day.
I R IN UR COMMENTZ FIXIN UR TYPOS
Has anyone been able to solve the su puzzle? I remember reading in a book on topology that this puzzle is impossible to solve.
yes the SuPuzzle is impossible to solve in 2d. The most connections you can make is 8.
whoa. S0 S0 S0ULFUL is a great find. Check out the others at http://www.yhchang.com/.
Just do what I did to solve it.
Use a warphole :)
su puzzle cannot be possible... can it?
@genius advice
I will likely feature a few more of Young-Hae Chang HI's videos in the future if the response is positive, since some of them deal with mature subjects I'm careful about fully screening them before posting up here. I found that site a few years ago and I love their work. One of my favorites is ALL FALL DOWN, and I just watched METABLAST recently and I really like that one (although that one clocks in at over 20 minutes it seems)
Glad you like it :).
My eighth grade English teacher gave us the SU puzzle back in 1989. said if we could solve it we'd get an A for rest of year well it was only 2nd quarter so I went through notebook after notebook trying to solve it I still haven't
I asked Dr. Math... and yes, it's impossible unless you're trying to solve it on a torus.
Is the moral of the story at the beginning of the post to not open these links, and just imagine the games as great or simple as our minds say they should be?
Well then they are all great.... I guess.
Here is a the solution to the Supuzzle:

Houses Puzzle walkthrough ! its very easy !
1st step Close the game or
quit playing
do it by pen when you want to waste your time and change the houses places and change the water and electric and the fire places too then you will not be able solve it
when i was very young, i spent three years or more playing this game at paper, in class room, in my mind too till i solve it so when i find it here i tried three time for the old days !
Aw, now I want to know what was in the box! It's not fair... you can't just leave me hanging like that. ;_; I have to know what was in the box!
I found a way to "SOLVE" (notice the quotes) the su puzzle.
But it is not truly solving the puzzle ... just a glitch.
Start by drawing a line to the left side of a house. Then, right click to bring up the menu while still holding down the left mouse button. Move your cursor across the menu "jumping" the house and then continue to draw the line to one of the other houses.
Using this technique I got to a point where all houses were connected with each utility. It wouldn't let me draw any more lines.
Ribbon trail is very pretty, but I wish it had music, and also was a bit more challenging to hold my attention
Here is a picture of the puzzle after using the bug or glitch.

He's not joking once you learn magical Trevor you will be able to recite EACH WORD ..FOREVER and every one will hate you for it because its impossible to sing this song only once (tip: try not to sing this in A. class B. meetings C.the end of the world)
well it does lighten up most situations but in the end it will just make every one else in the room glance around for blunt objects.
EVERYONE LOVES MAGICAL TREVOR! 'CAUSE THE TRICKS THAT HE DOES ARE EVER SO CLEVER! LOOK AT HIM NOW, DISAPPEARING A COW! WHERE IS THE COW, HIDDEN RIGHT NOW!
*AHHHHHHH get it stuck out of my head!!!*
the funny thing is they included a win condition so that if any one ever wins they will have proper congratulation or did they know about their little bug
The pattern for Climb was really predictable...
Su Puzzle is not solvable on my Linux box... since the glitch doesn't actually glitch.
I've enjoyed both of the Sambakza animated music videos. Very cute and peppy. :)
Jay, the Su Puzzle is just mean.
It's not nice posting something with no solution
"Is the moral of the story at the beginning of the post to not open these links,"
Seems that way, considering one of the links is for an un-winnable puzzle. That's 10 minutes of my life I want back.
Ribbon trail seems to be broken. I will lose health and die when I'm nowhere near the red ribbon. :-(
And I think once I actually got health back from something, but I can't figure out how.
SuPuzzle is mathematically impossible to win (without cheating, anyways). A graph (a set of dots connected by lines) is called planar if you can draw it without crossing any lines. The graph in the game (called K(3,3)) is not planar, and is actually one of the basic non-planar graphs. The wiki article on the subject appears to be a good summary, if you're interested.
Slade: I think you're right. I was cruising along when the "welcome to the tutorial" screen popped up, disappeared, and then it said "you died."
Uh, OK. Not that great of a game, anyway. Just a bunch of dots when it comes down to it, except that the dots have tails.
Cake dance. I r dispointed. So soulfoul must read fast. I r two old. love made cow go bye-bye. send to fav grandson. fav grandson luv Mango.
ta ta old lady wireman
Cake Dance was amazing. Every bit as good as the first. I wonder why it took so long, though. It's been what, at least four years?
Cake Dance has been out for a while too. This is just the first time it has been mentioned on Jay is Games.
You DO know what's in the box, don't you?
Are you sure you want to know?
Bananas
The most hillarious reveiw in the world is also one of the most popular.
"Seems that way, considering one of the links is for an un-winnable puzzle. That's 10 minutes of my life I want back."
That game/video/site... whever... sucked! I want the time back that I wasted of my precious life. So much that will read what others have posted, and waste another two minutes posting.
I'm curious, why has this become such a popular game to comment on?
Yeah, su puzzle is really not worth posting.
Sure it was fun to tease your friends with it in primaray school (especially by showing them the fake "solution" briefly - if you don't know what I'm talking about, see http://www.jimloy.com/puzz/puzzle3.gif ). It was also nice to learn in Graph Theory that the problem is unsolvable in pure 2D.
But creating a puzzle in Flash and posting it at Jay is Games is kinda lame. Especially since it ain't even April 1st.
If you really want a puzzle, then try to put ten soldiers in five rows, each row containing four soldiers. At least this one's solvable without cheating. :)
It seemed like the SuPuzzle was not a one day done puzzle.
I took hours to think of it but still can't get it solved.
It drives me nuts!
The ending to the opening story, in my mind...
Unfortunately, the lady's daughter opened the the box, and discovered that she had been given a kitten on that day so long ago. Nothing was left of the poor thing but it's skeleton and a few scraps of dessicated flesh, and they wondered...how could she not have ever noticed the *smell*?? ;-)
This must have been a really bad Friday.
Magical Trevor has 5 episodes...very funny stuff.
Just to mention why I included Su Puzzle in the link dump. I played the game a bit, struggled, and thought "wow this is a lot harder than it looks, it seems impossible" but thought I must be stupid and that the JIG collective could solve it. Would you believe I actually thought that was just the first level of a game?
Whoops!
Luckily, now after playing it, you (and I) will never be fooled by someone with the puzzle again!
Sorry if this gave anyone grief, it was with good intentions.
If you're still feeling put off, watch Cake Dance and Magical Trevor! Those will brighten any day ;).
Weebls rules. so so much. On the Moon is fun. yay.
I'M IN YOUR HOUSE, PLAYING ALL YOUR WoW!
really liked S0, S0, S0ULFUL. And after you're done watching it... it makes great background music!
Arg... Darn you JayIsGames! I can't stop singing the Magical Trevor song. I even sang it at school!
so theres no answer to su puzzle??
Yes, there is.
I'm currently stuck on 16th level, where you have to connect 16 houses to 32 utilites, but also have to do it standing on one leg and singing "Traviata" backwards. It's quite difficult.
