Anika's Odyssey: Land of the Taniwha is a beautiful point-and-click adventure by Tricky Sheep similar in style to Sprout or Samorost. In fact, it was designed and programmed by Jeff Nusz (Sprout), with art by Tom Robinson.
You begin with the innocent task of gathering water from the well. As a great eagle swoops from the sky and absconds with your rabbit pal, the bucket becomes a stool that allows you to jump the fence and begin your adventure!
Control is entirely mouse-driven and centers around clicking hotspots on the screen to enable various events. Your cursor will change when you hover over a clickable spot. To look around the environment, simply slide the mouse to the edge of the screen and it will gradually scroll in that direction. The game is largely exploration-based, so it's important to pay attention to your surroundings.
Puzzles are mostly confined to hunting for the next point to click or discovering which order to trigger the events. There are a few more traditional riddles to solve, however, but nothing too difficult. The game is heavy on charm and light on frustration, almost like an interactive storybook.
Anika's Odyssey manages to tell a simple but engaging tale with nothing more than images and sound. The visuals are absolutely beautiful, complete with layered backgrounds that give the illusion of depth. The music is equally enchanting and, when paired with the story of a young girl on a quest, conveys the rather innocent sense of adventure Anika must feel herself.
It's funny, it's cute, and there's a host of zany creatures just waiting to be discovered. Anika's Odyssey a little bit of storybook magic.

Click on bucket. Take bucket to pump. An eagle will steal your
toy rabbit!
Click on bucket. Take bucket to fence. Click on floor to use
bucket as a step and jump over fence.
Click to move right. Click on hollow log over river to crawl
through. You will be stopped by trolls(?)
Click on hole in tree stump. Red troll will climb in. Click
on him to push him in.
While the other trolls rescue him, crawl through the log to
the other side.
Click to move right. Click on floating log. A seamonster will
rise up and bump his head.
Pull on the Red, Green and Blue vines (in that order). A chameleon
will jump onto the branch.
Jump onto the floating log and click on the chameleon?s longue
to get across the water.
Click on the bush above to pick the berries.
Move to the rock near where the giant?s line is in the water.
Click on the berries in your hand to throw them in to attract some fish.
You catch a lift on the fish. Click on the mushrooms above
the giant?s head to climb up.
Pull the lever on the machine. Click on the sparking cogs to
kick the machine and knock them off. Repeat until the bridge lowers.
Cross bridge. Click on mine cart to push it up the bridge.
Cross back over bridge and click lever. Weight of cart will make bridge fall
and create steps.
Cross over, climb down and climb up track until you reach the
goat. Climb back down and round to the cave. Click on the cave to enter.
Click on gate to release boulder. Click back on cave and return
to track. Climb track.
Click on bunny to collect it (click bunny to cuddle it). The
eagle will reappear, but the mountain-man will scare it off. Click on feathers
to make wings.
Click on nest to fly home.
Click on bucket to pick it up, click on pump to fill bucket.
Take bucket to house. The End.
