You don't know why you came to this place, the Labyrinth. Oh there are foggy recollections, romantic tales of daring do and narrow escapes and riches beyond the dreams of mortals. There was also laughing and music and other adventurers clapping each other heartily on the back.
And mead, of course. You realize that your worst decisions always seem to involve mead.
You focus upon the task at hand. Get in, get the treasure and get out. Simple, yes? Only, the Labyrinth is no child's maze and its twists and turns have swallowed up many a greedy treasure seeker. Worse still is this cursed place's resident demon, the Minotaur. Half bull, half man, this beast is more clever than the Sphinx by a hundred-fold, and he has laid his puzzles and riddles throughout the dark twisting tunnels.
This is not your average dungeon crawl, but instead an online riddle, similar to not pr0n, or God Tower, only with more than a few twists and turns to set it apart, and a horde of fiendish puzzles that just may trap you for eternity.
If you've never played an online riddle before, this is how it goes. You are presented with a single page with a picture or some sort of central image that could include words, numbers, grids, etc. From that and the title, you must deduce a password in order to proceed to the next level. You can just guess, but be careful. You only have a limited number of tries for any one level before you are locked out for a brief spell. This serves to deter people randomly guessing their way through the game, as well as giving you time to think about the problem and rework it properly before trying again.
So, what is your fate to be? Will you emerge from the Labyrinth victorious, treasure in hand? Or will you crawl out, thankful to have your very life? Or will you, like so many others, fall victim to the Minotaur's devices, never to be heard from again?
Analysis: There are a ton of online riddles on the internet, and we tend not to feature them, but the Labyrinth stands out in so many ways and is so well done that it was destined to find its way here. In fact, there are three principle ways in which it deviates from the norm.
The focus of online riddles tends to be on intensive Google searches, high-end image manipulation, and even a little HTML usage. In the Labyrinth you'll definitely find yourself on Google a few times, and you'll have to manipulate some images, but you won't have to mess with HTML, the searches rarely get in-depth, and all image manipulation can be done easily enough in MS Paint. No, the focus of this riddle lies in code breaking and logic, which makes it more accessible to people who may not have supplemental skills, while at the same time opening new avenues of mental challenge. You'll find that you'll spend more time with scratch paper and home-made models than you will with a search engine.
The second thing is the community and support provided in the forums. Spark Plug, the game's designer, did an outstanding job of making the Labyrinth as self-contained as an online riddle can be, and that includes the extensive versatility of the forums. There, you can not only find hints on individual levels, but also a general beginner's guide, as well as FAQs about codebreaking using traditional ciphers. In a stroke of genius, you can also form teams, and a quick PM to Spark Plug will net you and your partners your very own forum, where you are granted virtually unlimited freedom to discuss the puzzles and post answers. The site's staff may even drop by to nudge you along when you and your mates get stuck.
But the real genius of the Labyrinth is the fact that it is, in fact, a Labyrinth. There is no map, but the puzzles are organized in a non-linear format, complete with dead ends and loop-arounds. On a practical level, this means that just because you solved a puzzle once doesn't mean that you won't have to go back and solve it again with new information. This is where Spark Plug's true brilliance shines through. It is simply amazing that a puzzle that may have occupied you for weeks has an alternate solution that you didn't even see the first time around. In other situations, you will return to a puzzle and with only slight alterations come up with significantly different answers.
All of this adds up to an experience that is unlike any other. Don't expect to have this done in a day, or even a week, and I think it would take an exceptional mind to conquer this challenge on one's own. But when all is said and done, the frustration and the work is more than worth it, to finally come back out of the Labyrinth, treasure in hand.
Oh, yeah, and if you thought that was easy, there's a sequel that's harder than the first.
(NOTES: First, this game does require registration, but you won't be asked any sensitive information. Also, in order to maintain the integrity of the puzzle, please do not post any blatant answers or methodologies here, and please do not link to any walkthroughs or answers on a different site. Trust me, this kind of stuff ruins the experience for everyone involved and does the game's creator a great disservice. Questions and hints of a gently nudging nature are encouraged.)
I remember playing this game ages ago. Fun while it lasted, great if you have a community with it.
Wisedude, now that sounds familiar... Where have I read that tag before?
Anyway, I am going to guess that the community is about to be replenished. Apparently today just broke the record for users online, and I am pretty sure that I got Psychotronic, Artbegotti, and Kero hooked on this.
Oh, and for anyone who does decide to stick with this, I have finished the first labyrinth, so I can provide some gentle nudging on my own. It was almost two years ago, so I've forgotten a lot, but I might still be of help.
It may be because of the sudden influx of visitors, but its been 10 minutes and I still haven't gotten my confirmation e-mail for registering for the site. Hopefully they'll catch up soon. Anyone else having similar problems?
It's probably the flood, Kevin. There's a ton of new users so I would be patient, and if it doesn't come in half an hour or so, I would try again.
I didn't receive a confirmation email, either, so I contacted the admin as per instructions in the forum.
It turns out that they don't accept registrations from gmail accounts, due to problems with spamming. (And the registration form currently doesn't provide any feedback letting you know this).
It seems a little silly that I'd have to sign up for a new email address somewhere just to play this puzzle game. Oh, well.
god! im stuck at the second stage.
B1 : i swear its him!
I would play this, but I really don't feel like making another email address to do so, as I use gmail.
Also, Kevin, check your spam folder. And I was told by Spark Plug that I couldn't use a gmail account for registration, so if you have gmail, try using a different email account.
kyle, I'll probably be taking you up on that offer of nudges. C2 is driving me slightly nuts.
Hate to say it but I'm stuck on B1: The one with the hippopotomidae's
ok stuck on 2nd one now!
i don't get it. i tried everything i could think of
The restriction on Gmail seems a little much. I guess I'll have to resort to my old Yahoo mail account. *shivers* Did anyone else feel that icy chill?
I think I had to register using my excite account... if that makes you feel better. C2... alright, let me go take a look at that one and nudging shall be coming forthwith.
Ah, C2... You know, the title can give you a far better hint than I, really.
You know, i really hate that I can't join the chat while I'm at work.
I would play this game but i have gmail. *sigh* I hate anybody related to the cause of the anti-gmail thing
Oh, one last thing. If you need something more than gentle nudging, you can pm me through the forums. i still go by grimmrook there.
Well unfortunately I only have GMail. And a site that will accept hotmail and not GMail?
Not worth the time.
Could use a clue on D1.
If like me you use gmail, guerrilla mail is a nice and easy alternative.
It generates an email adress that lasts for one hour, and is perfect for signing up for things.
http://www.guerrillamail.com/
I'm also stuck on the hippopotamidae - three hippopotamidae, by the way. Is this in any way relevant to the solution? I have no clue!
D1: Probably the first of the complex multi-part puzzles. I guess the first thing to figure out though is what exactly it is you're looking at.
Ah, never mind.
Taleweaver:
But what are they in?
Taleweaver,
what are the hippos in? :p
help with C1 please!
Thank you for Guerilla mail!!!
Now I can FINALLY play...
I NEVER use my real email with all those internet perverts, hackers, and other bad stuff out there.
So again, Thank you!!!
Now I can play this awesome game!!!
P.S. ♥thank you♥ ^U^
Some help with B1??
I am not registering just to try it.
glitter:
Look down.
Dean:
Say what you see.
I tried the looking down hint already from the forums. All I see is the keyboard but that wasn't the answer??
Appreciating how it's a labyrinth...
I got one answer for C3 but need another one - should the same clue phrase be bringing me to another answer? None of the alternate answers I've tried have worked.
glitter:
Right, so you looked down, but what are you supposed to DO with it?
rikchick:
If I were a betting man, I would bet that you have already solved a puzzle that might give you a clue as to what you need to properly finish c3
Thanks so much, Kyle! Very cleverly clued.
*bows*
I've had lots of practice.
Argh, stuck in B1, even with the hints here!
I still don't get C1. What do I type in? What do the numbers have to do with it?
Donut
You have to look at the picture. What are the hippos in? You have to put hippo and the other word together. The title is a hint too.
For B1:
Just write down what you see. It's not Greek, you know.
However, I must say that I don't see the tiniest amount of connection between the title and the answer.
B1 IS Greek. -_-
still stuck with C1 help!
Because they request the info (not require it) during reg:
Here's a link to a simple, clear GMT calculator. Just thought it was a useful thing to put out there : )
http://time_zone.tripod.com/index.htm
@Baba.
The person that it's about was a famous Greek
I found it quite clever really.
Stuck on C3 Stitch Up now though.
Power of posting has granted me the question, but not sure what to do with it. What's this cipher people were mentioning?
any hint for c1
going crazy over D1... help please, I haven't been
able to identify all of them.. who are the two ladies in the 3 column?
For C1:
Think of the numbers as ordinal numbers.
baalazmon: perhaps if you can give me its title i might be able to help
i'm stuck on D1: each way bets. I can't
find the name of the two ladies in the third column. any pointers?
Dom, not sure where you're at with C3, but if you have the question, when it comes to the answer never for get a riddle solver's "best friend".
baalazmon: I've already done a few hints up above, so try working with those for a bit first and if that still doesn't work, let me know.
I've done both directions and got the whole (I think) question and when googling I only come up with a specific character. That won't work in the answer so I'm wondering if there's more to it, or whether I'm just being thick.
The power of posting.
C3:
When using your 'best friend' put in what you got, don't add spaces...
any help on D1 please?
I've got 6/8 ladies. missing the two on the third column.
Dom, you know what's funny? When I used my "best friend" on that puzzle, a certain Nintendo Character kept getting in my way.
Ach! I need to get back to work!
Too tired to understand the hints on C1. I need more! I was told I was the 7th person to try the incorrect answer I tried.
I decided I will not waste time with this.
I am not a native English speaker yet I think I am quite fluent with the language. However, I have never heard the C1 solution word in my life and was quite dissapointed with the solution for it. And when I realized the next puzzle relies on knowledge of British slang, I gave up. It's one thing to make the puzzles "out-of-the-box" and quite another to require some esoteric language knowledge to come even remotely close to the solution.
Give me a good escape-the-room game over this any day.
Oh and @Dom, I am quite aware who that person is, but thanks for the clarification anyway. I guess. :)
I even converted that character back into numbers. I'm surprised no one else had tried that.
I attempted to register this afternoon and I STILL haven't received an activation email. I sent the dude an email, but the sent email didn't even show up in my "sent" folder, so I don't know what...
To the people who actually got through, is it worth it?
can anyone help me on E1- spotless?
I
realize this supposed to be a cube of sorts, I have converted the letters to numbers but i can't imagine the connection - what other numbers to replace the ?? with...
any hints? pleaeaaase? i've read their forum and i'm still clueless..
Woops! I meant I'm stuck on C3, "Stitch Up," not C2.
So many possible ways of tackling this one....argh....
Stitch Up:
the "up" is important here. sometimes the horizontal threads are upon the vertical ones, and sometimes the other way round.
hope that helps. don't want to give away too much.
I played this game exactly three years ago.
Didn't sleep for a month.
This game is so addicting, and believe me - without a team you're in WAY over your head. This will drive you insane. The puzzles get harder and harder, yet you just KNOW the answer is right in front of you, with a clever twist, and a turn... and a what? A dead end? Where did I make a wrong turn?
Get yourself a team and ENJOY this ride. I am still proud to have completed it, although I could never have done it all by myself...
Well said Mak.
If you are still having registration problems, are you trying to do so using a gmail account? Apparently gmail won't work (I'll probably amend this in the post when I get home). You will have to use a different email service or, as someone noted above, there is a service available that allows you to change your email address for an hour which allows you to register. Whether this works or is wise, I will not comment, just that it is available. Apparently Spark Plug has had problems with gmail and spam in the past so there you go.
Jess, I'm really surprised you're having a rough time with this, solving Stitch Up is as easy as 1-2-3...
And I should point out that Makrone makes a very good point. You folks should be forming teams, I made it through with a team, and even at that there was some attrition involved.
Sorry, surfmadpig. Spotless is one of those I can't remember the methodology on. You could ask Kero and Artbegotti, I was driving myself nuts trying to remember how it's done.
@surfmadpig
What shape is being shown? And can you connect that with the letters.
Stuck on welcome.
Help!
love the teams idea - anyone care to team up? I'm currently stuck at "spot the difference".
I need help for A1 as well. Can someone just tell me the initial idea so I can get started? :S
@Surfmadpig
I'll team up with you, I kind of need some help to start off though.
I'll be in the irc chat for a bit if anyone wants real time hinty goodness.
Surf:
Interestingly, those people who would easiest be able to solve this puzzle, couldn't do it taking the directions of the title literally.
I signed up with my Gmail address without any problem... they seem a bit incompetent at this anti Gmail thing.
All I had to do was change the domain of my address from @gmail.com to @googlemail.com
Hope this game is worth it...
I can't even play the stupid thing. First of all, you have register, God knows why. And you can't use a gmail account as your activation email, which is all I have. I'm not going to spend half an hour setting up an email account elsewhere, register with the site, then wait for it all to clear just to play this. Forget it.
Not to bite the hand that feeds me games (delicious, delicious games), but the whole "no walkthough, no spoiler" thing seems a little hypocritical, considering that I've seen games on this site before for which the author specifically requested that no walkthroughs be posted, but the JiG editors allowed and encouraged users to do so on the discussion page. What about those games' creators? Weren't they being done a "great disservice"?
And regarding "spoiling the experience", aren't that what spoiler tags are for? You're only spoiling it for people who want it spoiled. I'd say that playing through hours of a game to get stuck on one of the final levels does much more to ruin one's experience than the shame of having to give up on a stumper.
BuenoCabra: The no-spoilers request comes directly from Sparkplug himself, so that the Labyrinth is still a labyrinth, no matter when someone starts playing. In the two years that the first Labyrinth has been around, he has maintained his creations by asking people who post walkthroughs to remove them, and we wish to honor his efforts as well as enforce them ourselves.
Yeah, I know, that's my point. I seem to remember at least once before an author asking for no walkthrough to be posted, and that was ignored here. Could be wrong, but I don't know why my brain would make that up.
I'm not saying we should post one. If you want to find the answers, it is the Internet. Nothing's secret, especially when it's this old.
Need help with d1: each way bets.
I am terrible with pop culture and I'm having a horrible time identifying the pictures. With some judicious guess-and-google, I've gotten columns 1 and 2 ID'd and top #3. The other 3 are an utter and complete mystery to me. Help?
To those annoyed at the rejection of Gmail, stop moping and look up! someone has already posted a link to guerrilla mail, which gives you a custom email account for an hour, without any registation - just type in the adress and you get it for 1 hour.
I'm stuck on the very first one...D4 (the shape of things to come)...
Any hints?
Right. I'm horribly stuck on D3: Zenith and Nadir.
I understand the whole origami type thing and I've printed it out, but am I looking at one fold or more? I think it's to do with overlaying as well as people were commenting on Image Manipulation on the forums.
LS:
It's not absolutely necessary to get all of the names, though the more you can pin down the better. Here's some help on your expedition.
bye bye miss AMERICAN PIE
Mr. Powers; International Man of Mystery
Kim Carnes, the one hit wonder.
Dom:
Have you ever been a fan of MAD magazine?
And what are those weird little design doohickeys on the sides?
I'd never heard of MAD magazine til I read these spoilers but I understand its something to do with folding a picture. I've tried folding it along the middle but the jiggly lines aren't helping unless they're signaling that.
Dom:
I would think of them more along the lines of instructions.
This is taunting me.
Ive almost beaten the 7 paper fold with all this folding.
Okay after mass googling I know more about the whole MAD thing, but it doesn't help me apart from confirming I need to fold stuff... I'm guessing the lines tell me HOW to fold, and I'm just too thick to see it?
i really need help with c3.. so i need to count the number of up stitches both horizontally and vertically? and with the numbers i need to form letters like a=1 b=2? i have no idea what im thinking.. i need a walkthrough!!
[Edit: Please do not use only capitals - Thank you, Kayleigh]
Never mind... as a joke I gave one of my old attempts to my neighbour when he came round (brother's friend). I said if he could do it he'd be allowed on my computer whenever he came around...
The little jerk did it.
haha. Don't worry about it. There's one level where a bunch of us were just stumped, and one of the people that had beaten the whole thing would taunt us with, "My four year old guessed it in thirty seconds!"
These things are not comforting.
The annoying thing was I was gloating how he'd never do it.
Onto D2 now. Just tell me whether I need binary or not before I start translating.
Dom:
1110
1111
Hmmmm, still can't get C1. Man, I just know I'm gonna start ignoring my homework....
For those of you who use Gmail (including me), I find that Mailinator is a great option. You just have to put in some random name (like [email protected]) and it will create an account as soon as it gets mail. Great for "spam accounts" or just activation emails.
Requires registration
+ Ridiculous limitations (no gmail)
+ Annoying lack of walkthroughs
No thanks. I'll play a game that doesn't expect me to jump through it's stupid hoops. This game could be the greatest thing in the history of all things, ever, but I'll never know because I'm not even going to try it with that kind of nonsense.
Kyle not at all? Or in the sense that you're doing it.
Oh I see. Onto the betty one.
Seiya: Well, I'll tell you this much, if you get sucked into the Labyrinth, you may want to just go ahead and work out a schedule to let school and the Labyrinth share you or else this thing will take over your life. There are puzzles that have had me and my team stumped in excess of a week, if that gives you a time frame.
And for your obligatory hint on C1:
Look down.
There's actually a VERY useful hint in the forums too, if you read it right.
I've given up after the Betty's one. I've had to have massives of help on all of them except the first. If it gets harder from here I'm doomed enough.
Surfmadpig is there a team thing happening?
How does one go about joining a team?
I would love to share my torture with others.
Am currently twitching over D1..never liked betting...
Dom: Don't give up. At the very least, you should maybe start working in a team because as you will find, some people will see different things in different puzzles. Yeah, they get harder, but trust me, there are very few who don't make it through to the end without a lot of help.
And it requires a little patience as well. It took me six months to get through. Yeah, I took a two and a half month sabbatical, but still...
Since you and cheeseboy are both starting on bets, I'll give you the same hint.
You first need to know what you are looking at (but I wouldn't stress too much on catching them all)
Kyle
I have them all thanks to your lovely hint above.
I am currently googling meaningless strings of letters. 'Tis a joyous experience
Dom
Let us combine our agony and sob together
I'm also stuck on the Bet puzzle. I know columns 1 and 2, but the bottom one on 3 and top one on 4 I have no clue who they are. The top one on 4 I've seen before, but her name escapes me.
The fact that three of them are flipped just confuses me further.
Nemo, go upthread, I've got a couple hints on finding what's what and who's who.
Unfortunately, the next step of the puzzle is hard to hint at subtly, so pm me with what some theories and I'll try and nudge you along.
I think I've got most of it, but the bottom isn't making any sense and I still can't figure out who the woman at the bottom of 3 is.
WHICH American Pie movie was she in? There have been a few and she wasn't in the first two as far as I can tell.
Nemo:
Yes she was.
I place people who like word games an rebuses in the same group as people who like limericks. They have beards, wear wool sweaters enjoy a cup of tea with their morning crossword puzzle. They probably also like weird community theater plays, small art galleries and antique book shops.
Well, I'm already stuck and I'm just on the initial "Welcome" puzzle.
I get what's going on, but I can't get past the second from last prompt, which is to say, I'm confident up to the one that says
opposite (2)
but I'm not sure what the next one could be, let alone the final answer they need me to input. I'm pretty sure they don't use the same word twice in that list.
Argh, never mind.
The answer was literally right in front of me!
Ray9na:
You're right. You don't need to use the same word twice. Think about multiple meanings the words could have...
Thank you thank you thank you
The American Pie comment made everything clear to me
Now if only I could work out spotless...
I can tell it's supposed to be a die, but morse code doesn't work out to be dice dots and I can't figure out how to make the rest into numbers 1-6
Actually CMarie55
another name for the shape it makes is a more helpful clue.
Okay, yeah, so hereby I join the teeming mass of "What the heck is C1 about!?"
Worried eyewitness, eh? For some reason, it's got me thinking of the joke "Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven 'ate' nine." But then someone said to think of ordinal numbers, and a few people have said to look down, but where? The screen? My keyboard? The puzzle was made by Brits, and I'm American. B1 was solved by realizing it was a bad, bad pun, but here I'm stymied.
ray9na:
I wouldn't be so sure that Sparky's a brit. It's just helpful to know the British slang for a teevee to solve the one puzzle because we Yanks are used to calling it teevee or television.
In other words, it's quite likely that the creator's keyboard is the same as yours (assuming you have a qwerty)
Kyle--
Thanks. Good to know, but doesn't seem to help me much with C1 (unless I'm just being really dense, in which case I still need a slightly stronger hint!)
I guess I'm an idiot, because I got locked out on B1. I still don't get it.
I've tried everything from three hippos trapped in cages to nicolas cage to trippopotomus(I was the first person to guess that :P)
ray9na:
The keys are in a certain numbered configuration... maybe you should copy it? The puzzle's title will confirm you've done it correctly.
C1 *is* pretty hard to hint at without just blatantly telling you what needs to be done.
Anyway, I'm at A2 now and I haven't the foggiest idea what I'm intended to do once I've decoded it.
blindmansays:
Can you think of another name other than "cage" to describe what they're in? It starts with 'c' as well. You'll have the name of a famous Greek guy when you've solved it.
I figured out E1, but it sent me to a dead end and now I'm completely stuck. No idea what to do from here. Any hints?
Jakd, thanks for the tip about "googlemail.com". I find it bizarre that gmail isn't allowed, but hotmail and yahoo and other sites that I would consider so much worse are allowed. Nevermind that they then send you your password in plaintext in your registration confirmation email. Uh.. yeah, that's so secure, thanks.
I am very stuck on D2.
I just can't figure it out.
:(
any hints?
D3 has me for a loop. I understand I need to fold, but the lines on the side and the dots in the middle are not making it clear to me where it is I should fold. Any help?
Well...
I read the forum over there twice and slept on it. When I woke up, I realized what I had to do for C1.
In the end, a big ol' Homer Simpson "D'OH!"
I am also stuck on Spotless
I understand that its supposed to be a cube, not a die as dice have spots
But I don't even know where to begin, how to change the letters into numbers, pretty much anything...
Grrrr.
Ok, I cheated to find C1 answer, but now that I have the answer (I can go to the next riddle) I still can't figure how to find the answer with the information given. The number matches nothing! I am becoming crazy. How is it possible to complete C1 ?!
@ sarabee
You need to know that it is actually that spotty object but with spots processed and replaced by letters .
In order to convert letters back to numbers you need to know it is functioning as a cube
Sylario --
Now that you know what the word is, try to see how the numbers relate to the letters.
Has anyone gotten up to E5 yet? I think I know what to do, but I have a feeling it'll be tricky and tedious and I'm wondering if there's a simpler way I haven't noticed.
It seems to be a fiendish cross between sudoku and picross, and I don't own a printer :/
Okay, for C3 Stitch Up, my question is this:
Do we count everything it's on top of, or just the number of times it goes on top?
ray9na:
You'll want to count how many times a particular thread is on top. Don't forget that some threads double over. You'll then have to change those numbers into something that will get you an answer.
I've got myself stuck on A4 now. I think I know what to do with the sticks, but it's not getting me anywhere productive.
I feel stupid...
Can't get past A-1. What's the opposite of "come"?
Villageidiot
Culture Clubs song 'Karma Chameleon' may help
I think a very good clue to everyone is that:
answers can contain spaces
(especially helpful for D3)
TrailMix,
I'm afraid I only found the expected tedious method ... but then I like those puzzles and don't find them tedious. Got graph paper handy? It's not too bad to copy longhand.
Now, anyone up to A6: Misfit? I was moving along at a good clip until I slammed into this wall.
I think the familiarity of the puzzle type is hindering my ability to think outside the box here. After the obvious method failed, I could only concoct 2 alternate routes, one of which seemed promising but fizzled at the end, and the other never got off the ground.
Arf, i now understand, for C1 you MUST OWN A QWERTY KEYBORAD!
Thanks for the rest of the world.
Can anyone help with Each Way Bets? I need some clues as to who is at the bottom in No.3 please???
Now it's offline :(
I'm stuck on round and round - I've gone round once and got the message but can't figure out what to do next. A nudge would be helpful.
For the sudoku/crossword thingy:
The system is quite easy but takes abit of work. Find an anagram generator.
Anyone else being redirected to "This account has been suspended" when trying to view any page at Puzzle Files?
I have been playing Labyrinth for two days. I was signed in tonight, got a telephone call, was on the phone for a bit, when I came back, the Labyrinth website said:
This account has been suspended. Please contact support as soon as possible.
Did this happen to anyone else? I was working on a puzzle but did not even guess, so I am not over my daily guesses. As far as I know, I did nothing wrong.
Worst part is, I cannot get to the site to get an email address to contact their support.
Dang.... get addicted to something, and then not be able to get there! How mean is that?
LOL
statman
The common name is not her first.
Whewww.... glad to know I didn't do anything wrong as others are having the same problem.
Maybe it was caused by the huge influx of new visitors since it has been on JIG and this following is so immense the Labyrinth site couldn't handle all of us at one time. =o)
Or maybe... I'm just bored because I can't get there to play and all these weird ideas are swirling around my head.
Maybe Jay should quick throw us a few riddles to solve while we are waiting. =o)
Since Jay has all these wonderful helpers that so eloquently review new games for us, I wonder... should we call the group of them "Jay Crew"? Maybe they could get a group discount from the clothing catalog company.
I wonder if I forgot to take my meds today?
Someone stop me......
thank you sulokitu!!!
I agree with the people who find the "No Walkthrough!" caveat silly. For a game that apparently prides itself on being non-linear, it's awfully linear the moment you hit a puzzle you can't solve--or a puzzle that obviously requires more grunt work than you're willing to give.
I enjoy riddles and puzzles, but when I came to the conclusion that the "Stitch Up" puzzle was going to require half an hour of squinting and counting--and that's assuming my technique was correct the first time!--I was done with the entire game. I'd have happily taken a spoiler and continued on to enjoy the more riddle/pun/wordplay-based puzzles, of which I DID enjoy the first few. I know there are people who enjoy spending hours laboring over single puzzles, and I don't begrudge them that, but I'm not one of them. :-)
Talk about the "integrity of the puzzle" just sounds self-important and inane. The solutions to this game are not secrets on which nations will rise and fall. If they're that important to the game creator, he can keep 'em.
I'm certainly not going to convince someone like scottique, but for anyone on the fence about this puzzle site, it is well worth it! Been through the first labyrinth and got held up somewhere near the end? of the 2nd.
Grab a friend, grab a pencil/paper or your fave spreadsheet, and HAPPY PUZZLING!
Oh, and I'm there under pjlilley if anyone needs a nudge...
I just want to say both a Thank you and a Gosh Darn you for introducing me to Labyrinth!!! This games has not only challenged my intellect, but has thrown me into complete disarray!!! Some of the puzzles have dawned on me almost instantaneously, while others, like Decode What You See, have got me so stuck, I would quite like to cry right now!!!
So again,
Thank you
but
Gosh Darn you!!!

Great puzzles, but they are way too difficult, for one who hasn't done anything like this before.
Does anyone know a good site with similar, but easier puzzles?
:( I am on
Read between the lines
I am a total bottom dweller when it comes to Paint. I have read the thread in the forum and followed the links to hints and tips. I cannot make my grid transparent...sob
Can anyone give me a link to somewhere that will talk me thru it?
stupidcheeseboy:
I just got to Read Between the Lines. (A Bit at a Time was a little over my head!) If you still need help with Paint:
Select the eyedropper icon and left click the beige background. Then select the dotted square and the bottom transparent background icon. Then when you select and move the grid it should work.
Sorry that should have been:
right click the beige background
Each way bets...have the names but still stuck after 2 days......
Each Way Bets
Have you tried writing the names in the same way that the pictures are displayed? The numbers at the top are a clue to what is important. A little research may be needed to decipher what you find. It was for me.
Could anyone offer me a nudge for Cross Reference?
I completed the puzzle and got a two-word remainder that made sense. But it was not the correct answer. Is there another step?
I've finished!!
April fool! Hahahaha
Fantastic game, thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's not my favourite (yet) - that is still Ouverture Facile, but still very high quality.
Anyone willing to give me a hand on B4: Evils?
I know I'm supposed to find some sort of common link between the words, but I don't see any...
Emojk:
Concentrate on the structure of the words, not the meanings. Each one has a certain trait in common with part of their letters.
Sulokitu,
I assume you've probably done Cross Reference by now... If not:
The first of the two words should be fairly unnecessary
Emojk:
In case you need a further hint for B4 Evils (this was the hardest puzzle so far for me):
Actually physically write out all the words and see if you can see the link that sulokitu mentioned
And completely ignore the meanings of the words
Ah, now that I've found out the solution, it was very simple indeed :)
Thanks everyone.
Thank you, Jimbog!
I can't even figure out the first one. Anyone able to help?
Coma,
If by the first one you mean A1, then hints below. This is one of the very few so far that I was able to do completely on my own, they get a lot harder!
Just follow the instructions.
The numbers in brackets remind me of crossword clues...
The opposite of "wrong" is...
For anyone who is struggling, the in-game forums should have all the help you need.
Bear in mind that sometimes the people on there get a bit carried away making their hints as cryptic as possible. Personally I don't find this helpful, as they often don't make any sense until you know the answer!
There are usually two or three good hints per puzzle if you can spot them.
I may catch some flak for requesting an additional spoiler concern... BUT, please do not post the "position" of the puzzle in your post (ie. A1). Trust me, it matters later on.
Even better, follow jimbog's advice and jump into the in-game forum. You may also find it helpful to look at the bottom of the progress page and see who has completed the puzzle. Sparkplug has provided a nice feature here and shows you who is online - good people to PM if you're REALLY stuck.
For "Each Way Bets"
The only two I recognize are the cartoon characters... I would really appreciate someone letting me know what the names of the rest of them are.
I have tried searching via Wikipedia and Google, but I just can't figure out who's who or even which names to pick...
Thanks for any help given...

If you're still stuck, PM me at the site. Most people there are willing to give nudges and hints.
Any assistance with Spotless?
I get what it is and what the letters mean. I figured out what the ?? is and I input my answer per the instructions, but I get a dead end and I don't know how to proceed from there.
ray9na
Did you read the directions in faint letters at the bottom of the dead end? Which puzzle do they remind you of?
If you need another nudge, you can PM me at the site. Good Luck.
I'm now on Spot the Difference
Do I need to use algebra or something? I'm really at a loss on how to proceed. The forum's not much help on this one.
Never mind. I just had a flash of insight and I do believe I'm on the right track.
This game is like guessing why my girlfriend was mad: the "right" answer had nothing to do with reason or logic.
The solution is usually so far-fetched that it makes 42 a self-explanatory answer to life, the Universe, and everything. Just finish C2 and B3 and you'll know what I mean.
A suggestion:
Do not observe, use no reasoning and forget being creative. These skills get you nowhere when a guy ask you," what is the integer I'm thinking of?"
You know what, I'm gonna make a game just like that, so that at least a player would know the number of potential answers is countable. Also, I will ask everyone to register with an email address but declare all addresses illegal, "due to spamming".
Has anyone solved A4 Cocktail Sticks?
Never mind the above, got it.
Anyone know anything about B4: Evils?
Oh (expletive deleted) I just figured out C1. wow..... me=epic fail
If you need help with C1,
These correspond with keys on your keyboard.
F is 1.
Now I'm stuck on C2.
Hey, I remember this game.
I stopped playing it because that minotaur picture really creeps me out.
I need help with C1, I have read the hints on this comments section as well as some extra hints on other sites but still can't get it.
