Gravitee 2 is space golf! In space! Somehow your ball ended up out in the farthest regions of the galaxy and you have no choice but to play through. This new physics/sports game from FunkyPear lets you sling your ball out into the cosmos, whipping around planets and barreling through hoops.
Your mouse controls everything. Just click on the ball and drag to shoot, adjusting for angle and power. Depending on the level's goal, you'll need to send the ball through a series of hoops in the correct order or make a shot through a single gate while trying to beat par. Other levels may have you collecting little green balls, conveniently called pick-ups. Then there's the aptly titled Points stage, which is a hodgepodge of hoops, pick-ups, and planets, with the goal being to accumulate as many points as possible.
Twist! The game uses Newtonian physics, meaning that the planets that you thought were merely decoration actually have a gravity field that pulls your poor ball all willy-nilly through the universe. Well, not really willy-nilly. Physics is a science, after all, so all of that curving and swooping is precise and reasonable.
Gravitational pull can either help or hinder you, depending on where you need the ball to end up. Instead of sand traps and water hazards, space is littered with suns that will destroy your ball if you get too close and wormholes for warping from one side of the screen to the other. A neat little feature is the preview line, which shows the anticipated path of the ball. With every achievement you unlock, the line gets longer, making shots easier to plan even as the levels get more difficult.
Analysis: Much like Warpshot, Gravitee 2 makes good use of arcs and wormholes and angles and gravity and many other scientific terms. If you miss a planet's gravitational pull, the ball goes whizzing out into space, never to return. (Don't worry. You get to try again with another ball.) Get the shot just right and the ball curves neatly around the planet and gently through the hoop. For levels with multiple planets, precise angle and power can set off a series of swooping figure eights, slinging your ball around and over and around again.
The basic physics of the game makes it a pleasure to play, but the varying levels of difficulty and challenging requirements refine it into an addicting little space gem. Also, the graphics are bright and shiny like candy. However, gravity is tricky and devious, requiring a steady hand and nerves of steel to conquer. The mouse controls may be a bit too imprecise by nature, making you want to bend your virtual golf club over your knee. And just wait till you unlock Platinum Mode, where you don't even get to see the preview line.
With 90 achievements, 4 different medals to earn per level, rewards to unlock, and a well-crafted level editor, you'll want to put your space pants on, grab your space mouse, fire up your space computer, and spend some serious time playing space golf.
I'm only a short ways into the game, but it's extremely entertaining so far.
The UI is cumbersome... After failing a level, it takes 2 clicks to restart. Doesn't support the 'R' key to restart a level. What's going on with the competition level? I can enter the gate in 3 strokes, then I don't "win" and I have to restart the level?
It feels like these modes (collecting points, jumping through hoops) are superfluous. I would have preferred one good game mechanic with solid level design, instead of all these confusing variations.
Still, it has nice presentation and physics, I'm voting 4/5 on this one ;)
The competition levels are multi-part levels. After you complete the first screen, you have to continue through the next few screens to get your total score. I agree that the indicators are vague that something different is happening in that mode.
I do like the variety of objectives, though. It's exciting not knowing quite what I'll have to do next.
What i hate about this one that often times you make one bad shot and have to wait 10 seconds to restart the level.
bio
This is a fun physics game. Reminds me a lot of a space golf game I played years ago.
@bioLarzen:
Please try moving your mouse towards the bottom of the play area.
@Z and Psychotronic: I personally think that the scoreboard shown between each hole on the Competition levels is more than enough of an indicator that this is a different level. Furthermore I thinks it adds a lot to the game, it makes it feel more like a golf game instead of a game where you just have to randomly shoot a ball through some hoops for no apparent reason. But I even liked that in the first game.
And come on. Complaining about having to click two times to restart? That's just laziness in my eyes. If that's all there is to complain about, then there is nothing to complain about.
Well, vague is probably the wrong word. For some reason I just zipped right through the first round of my first competition without paying attention to what was happening. The smooth gameplay lulled me into complacency.
I think this is one of the better 2D physics games I've played. It has that Peggle thing happening, where it rewards you for everything you do. And the unlockables actually improve the UI as you go along.
Just noticed that he updated the description on Kongregate, and here's part of what it says:
"Will upload a new version tomorrow with easier restarts, etc, and some other suggestions implemented.
The bar at the bottom of the screen lets you abort shot and quit round. Will stick a restart button on the quit round confirm panel on the next update. Had meant to include it on this one but obviously missed it!"
So tomorrow, there will be a Restart button on the bottom screen. :)
@ThemePark It's not laziness - it's the annoyance factor. On these sorts of games, there's a lot of guess-and-check going on, especially since you don't get a numeric readout for your angle you can tweak with each repeat. If you want to get the best score, you have to repeat the level over and over again - you're not going to get a perfect the first time out. Try replaying a level you got Bronze on until you get a Gold - I bet after the tenth time replaying it you'll think that the two clicks are annoying as well. I *can* click twice, it would just be so much faster not to *have* to.
Same goes with the lack of keyboard shortcuts - it's not undoable to mouse to the bottom to reset the ball - it's just that around the tenth time you do it, the extra time and effort it takes becomes annoying.
A similar complaint is with the preview line - it's annoyingly slow to redraw. This makes it slow and tedious to line up the shot.
It's not a bad game and it has nice graphics, but the interface just feels "clunky" to me. It's not as streamlined as it could be.
Has anyone gotten the Just Got Started Award? I have no clue what it could be.
I would hazard a guess that it's how long you've been playing the game for (based on the awards which follow it).
You've got to try this shot:

33,000 miles in 1 shot! It was awesome!
Anyone know how to unlock the last 2 abilities? I finished every stage and they are still locked. Also, if you look at any of the walkthrough videos, that person has a blue line that shows the entire flight of the ball. Anyone know how to get that (I suspect it is one of the 2 locked abilities)?
J - Get most of the Golds (I think I had eight left), and you'll be given the ability to get the game to render the gravitational fields of all the planets as coloured patches. It doesn't really help much, but it's a bit better than the white lines for judging the pull of each planet.
I got all the Golds, but nothing new happened so it must be related to Platinum wins. I'm going through now trying to unlock that last ability.

This is fun but SO annoying the way you have to constantly click if your shot doesn`t get through.

Hey J, to get a longer blue line and the other abilities, you have to get awards.
Does anyone have a list of all the awards and what you have to do to get them?
Wow, Rebecca J, that's awesome! Your replay also got me some achievements for some reason...
