Clash of Clans: Farming Strategies

Here are some strategies in order to farm from Town Hall 2 to Town Hall 10.
While you're farming you must have one builder available to improve your walls or for short improvements.

Don't forget to determine what resource you're going for. Most bases won't have lots of Gold and Elixir at the same time.
Keep in mind that Villages with whole numbers like 25,000 or 52,500 or 100,750 tend to indicate this base belongs to a user who hasn't logged in for a while. Their resources will likely be in Collectors and Mines. Bases with odd numbers like 23,433, 51,111, or 99,788, will indicate the user been online recently and has collected its resources from the mines and collectors. You should target the Storage.

Here you can learn how to farm Dark Elixir

Town Hall 2/3 Farming Strategies

- At Town Hall level 2 and 3 you basically farm with Barbarians and/or Goblins. It is a cheap army and a very effective one. Don't worry about retaliation, the lower level Town Hall penalty makes you unattractive to the other players. You should look for opponents who forgot to complete their walls or you could choose to focus only on the collectors. Your Goblins will easily be able to rush for the resources.
Look for an opponent with 3k of a resource. Your storage are small (capacity: 6,000 x2) and quickly full so use the builder left to upgrade at least your walls. The other(s) builder(s) upgrades your defenses.

- At Town Hall level 3 upgrade your storage (capacity: 50,000 x2) quickly and then can start farming. The army composition is the same as Town Hall 2 but with more troops. You should look for opponents who forgot to complete their walls or you could choose to focus only on the collectors too : same strategy as Town Hall 2. At this level you should look for bases with 10,000 of a resources or of the two resources if you're lucky. Use your elixir to create the Laboratory (25,000 of Elixir) and launch your first research (50,000 of Elixir). Quickly max your defenses, after that look for bases with 20,000 of a resources and max your walls. Upgrades your collectors at last.

Town Hall 4 Farming Strategy

Max your Training camps thus your army will reach his maximum of 80 units. You can now use a Barbarian army or a Barcher one (Barbarians and Archers : 70/10 or 60/20). They are cheap and quickly trained armies. You don't have to wait too long between two raids and you should raid quite often.
At this level Gold Mines and Elixir Extractors are still not protected and easy targets. Look for bases with at least 30,000 of each resources at the begining and then look for opponents with 50,000 of each resources.
Don't forget to protect your storage, at Town Hall 4 you become a good target for enemies. You should center your mortar and place the storage close to him.

Town Hall 5 Farming Strategy

At Town Hall 5 you get your third Army camp and can have a max army of 135 units. Barbarians can be upgraded to Level 3. An army of 135 level 3 Barbarians is quite powerful against Town Hall level 4 and 5 defenses. With a full Barbarians army you can raid while your barracks train the next Barbarians, once again you'll be able to raid very often.
You should be between 500 and 1,100 Trophies and looking for bases with full collectors outside the walls and/or weak bases with bad designs. While using Barbarians be aware of Mortars and Wizard Tower because of their Splash damage. Try to find bases where these two defenses are easy to destroy and/or not too close to the storage buildings

Look for bases with 30k-50k of each resources.

Send a few Barbarians per collectors and send more Barbarians once the first ones are dead. For some bases with a lot of resources (collectors and storage), drop some Barbarians to destroy the outside buildings, then you can just surround the base with your Barbarians and let them do the job.

Remember upgrades priority : Army camp, Laboratory and Defenses.

Town Hall 6 Farming Strategy

At this level you army has 150 units, be aware you will face Town Hall 7 bases which have strong defenses and it won't be easy to them take out. You should focus on Town Hall 6 and 5 bases. You get access to the Healing Spell (cost 15,000 Elixir). It can be useful, a pack of Barbarians and a Healing Spell can destroy a Wizard Tower or a Mortar.

For farming you should use a full Barbarians army or a Barcher (Barbarians + Archers) one. With these cheap armies you'll be able to steal most of the resources of an enemy base, to have 50% Overall Damage and to upgrade your village quickly.

You should be around 1,200 Trophies and look for bases with 100k-150k of each resources. You can use the healing spell on bases with much more resources. Town Hall 6 villages get level 10 collectors which have a capacity of 100,000 and are filled in two days.

Don't hesitate to press the "Skip" button in order to find the perfect match.

Town Hall 7 Farming Strategy

At Town Hall 7 you get your fourth army camp. Your army will have 200 units. Another good thing is that you can have the Barbarian King but you'll have to gather 10,000 Dark Elixir to build his Altar.

The best farming army will be a Barcher one, half Barbarians, half Archers. Town Hall level 6 will not hold on for a long time dealing with your attacks. Use Barbarians as tanks and deploy Archers. Sometimes you'll just have to surround a base with your army and sometimes you'll to drop Barbarians in specific areas of the map, followed by Archer, to take out some specific buildings and reduce the effect of splash damages.

This army isn't efficient against Town Hall 7 and 8, you can only steal resources from their collectors so in this case, look for bases with fill up ones.

You can raid every 15-20 minutes with this cheap and quickly trained army.

Town Hall 8 Farming Strategy

Barbarians, Archers, Giants, Goblins, Wall breakers and Wizards gain a big boost with the Level 5 upgrade but you'll need a lot of Elixir to upgrade all these troops. Dark Elixir will be needed too to improve your Dark troops and your Hero.

You should farm close to 1,400 Trophies

To farm Gold and Elixir you need a Barcher Army, look for bases with 100,000 of each resources and go for filled up collectors. As usual try to get 50% Overall Damage. Farm Elixir as soon as possible, you must upgrade all your troops to Level 5 in order to farm Dark Elixir.

Town Hall 9 Farming Strategy

You should farm in a area where you find mostly half Level 8 Town Halls and half Level 9 Town Halls while finding a match.

You can use a BAM Army to farm : Barbarians, Archers and Minions. It is a quite cheap army and a quickly trained one. But you can't attack all villages with this army. You must look for bases with spread out Air Defenses, X-Bows position to down and weak walls. Avoid Inferno Towers, Wizard Towers close to the storage.
First lure the Heroes and Clan Castle troops if possible, then drop Barbarians close to Collectors and Towers/Air Defenses, help them with Archers. When a max of Towers/Air Defenses are down, deploy your Minions. You may use Rage spell to help them quickly destroy the storage.

Town Hall 10 Farming Strategy

You should farm where you find mostly half Level 9 Town Halls and half Level 10 Town Halls while finding a match.

Farming Dark Elixir

To farm Dark Elixir could prove to be a difficult task, especially with a lower level Town Hall. Since most players tend to put their Dark Elixir Storage in the middle of their base, you'll need an effective and yet a rather cheap and fast to train army composition.
If you want to farm Dark Elixir quickly, you'll need to be prepared to lose some trophies, since a typical farming strategy wouldn't get you one star here most of the times.

Bases to attack and trophy count:

Farming dark elixir means you'll need to attack TH 7 bases or above. The appropriate Trophy range for that would be above 1300.
Attack bases with 500+ dark elixir.
The Dark Elixir Storage needs to be relatively easy to get to. If you see a base with all the dark elixir hidden behind 3 layers of walls, you'll most likely fail getting to it.

Army composition - If you don't want to spend too much time and elixir on troops, you have two choices:

  • 6-7 Wall Breakers, Barbarians, Archers and Goblins.
  • A handful of Giants + Archers, Goblins and 6-7 Wall Breakers.

In general both armies follow the same principle:

Deploy a single unit to see if there are any Clan Castle troops.
Giants/Barbarians should be used as distraction while the Archers and Goblins break into the base and try get that Dark Elixir.
Time your Wall Breakers carefully. Send two-three of them at a time.
Once the path is open start sending in your Archers and Goblins. Send them in into small waves of 10-20 in order to prevent them from dying to any splash damage defenses or traps.
Bring a couple of Lightning and Healing Potions. A Spell Factory boost is quite essential since you'll have to use spells every now and then.

Note : Don't leach Dark Elixir using Lightning Spells, it is not fair-play and you will suffer retaliation.
