Soul Core
The fourth in the "Core" series of point-and-click adventure games created by John Feltham has just been released. Soul Core is similar to other games like this, and yet introduces a unique concept as well. Use your mouse to add items to your inventory; click on inventory items and drag them to the game view to use them. Try to complete the game with 100% "soul" rating.

I completed the game with 75% soul but have no idea how to get it any higher. I got that number like this:
soul sphere machine with the starter fuses (50/50); purple VR; soul sphere machine with new fuses (70/70); yellow VR; soul sphere machine again (still 70/70); prism lab.
The only way I could think of to improve this is
use 70/70 fuses from the beginning -- but when I went to the soul sphere machine with a replacement fuse, one of the starter fuses had mysteriously vanished, and there was no usable combination of fuses left, so I had to abort the game. Also, I found the yellow VR gem the first time through, but couldn't find it at all the second.
Still baffled by:
-
the help says there are three ways to raise soul rating, but obviously I only found two; and there isn't anything else you can have the girl do.
-
Does one's choice of hair and eye color matter?
-
What's with the plant and mirror in office one?
I think some of the "bugs" people are encountering are due to them switching rooms whilst specific processes are in progress.
Try not to leave a room until the machine animations have completed (ie disk downloading data, making the energy sphere), otherwise some of the variables may not update properly and the game will behave strangely.
It is however safe to freely move around the facility whilst the 30 second timer is running.
Err, uh. I did this just for the fun of it (commenting I mean).
Once you've cloned the person put the girl in VR suite. Then the chair inside. Put the Purple Data gem in the slot. Close the visor and upload the data. Once this is done put her in the cloning machine. Re-charge the power core (go back to the SE generator) then put it back in the hole of the tube in the cloning machine. Press the button (:D) The soul should now be at 40%. Now put her in the VR chair and use the Yellow Data Gem. Her soul is now at 50%. Go to the cloning tube. Get the depleted power core (or whatever). Re-charge it (Note: you need the spare laser because after the second time one of them should be broken). Put the girl in the tube and use the power core in the hole of the tube attached to the cloning machine. Transfer the soul energy to the girl.Okay, the soul is at 65%. Tell her to go the Prism Lab Entry. Make her go inside. SHE IS OUTSIDE NOW IF YOU BOTHERED TO CHECK. Her soul is at 75%. She's at the pyramid thing. Say "You Are Ready". You completed the game with a little help, I guess. Not really 100% though, >_>
@NKIM wtf? how'd you get 10? I have 50,40,30,20. 70 on each side.
For the fuses:
The easiest thing is just to take them all out. Then insert the new one from your inventory on the left, then the others from the left to right from the ground and left to right in the fuse locations.
For getting 100%:
During each of the countdown timers move around the rooms of the facility to find a glowing rotating shape. Pick it up, move back to the VR room (or observation room for the final one) and drop it on her to give her a 5% boost (for a total of 15%). Other than that, I used the mirror to ensure she had the same hair/eye color as myself, but I'm not sure if that matters.
Walkthrough:
Outside:
1. Turn around until you see a prism statue. Go to it.
2. Click on the triangle. It opens. Sphere get!
3. There is a pattern on the back wall. Remember this.
4. Go to the cube statue and enter in the pattern from the prism. Sphere get! Hammer get!
5. Turn to the sphere statue. Smash the center in with the hammer. Final sphere get!
6. Go to the complex. Orient the outside part so that there are two connections to the door on the lower bottom right. Turn the middle part so that the hole with three connections is on top. Put the straight sphere in that and orient it horizontally. Put the other spheres in the lower holes and connect them. Press the top button on the side. Door open!
Time travel:
7. Go to the storeroom. Grab the power core, purple gem, and crystal disk on the shelves. Look at the note and make note of the dates.
8. Go to the temporal research room. Input the second date. Go to the office 2 and grab the yellow gem. Input the coordinates listed for "Sphere Statue" on the computer into the chronoporter. Turn it on with the top button. Open the toolbox that should appear if you did it right and fuse get!
9. Repeat this with the third date and the cistern coords. Open the cupboard. Key get!
10. Go to office 1 and open the drawer. Use the date on this and the park coords and paper get!
11. Use the key on the toolbox in the storeroom. Laser get!
Cloning:
12. Go to the office 1 computer and press "Human Data". Enter the password on the paper. Load it onto the disk.
13. Drag the tree out of the way and click on the mirror. Note the hair and eye color. Go to the cloning room and upload the data and input your colors.
14. Go to the power room and turn on the machine. Insert the power core and download the energy. Put that into the hole in the cloning machine and turn it on. Press the button again.15. Go back to the power room and put in the depleted core. Go to the fuses on the side and move them around so that there are 70 on either side. Charge the core.
16. Power up the clone again and put the core back in the charger. Replace the laser and charge it up again, then charge up the clone one last time.
Training:
17. Tell the clone to go to the VR chamber. Put her in and close the visor. Insert either gem and turn it on. QUICKLY look everywhere in the game for a glowing white circle. If you find it, give it to the clone before the timer runs out for an extra five percent.
18. Repeat with the other gem and a square.
19. Tell the clone to go to the training room. Open the door and put her in, then turn it on. Find a triangle and take it to the observation deck and give it to her.
20. Go to the start area and talk to the girl. You win! If you got all of the shapes, then you get the "Super Cute Ending"! Huzzah.
I hope this was any good, as it was my first walkthrough...
How to get your soul up:
The soul energy machine provides three charges to the powercore. The first use is when you awaken the clone. The second time, you need to get a fuse from the chronoporter. The third time, you need to unlock the toolbox and use the replacement laser.
The VR machine provide two more boosts from the purple and yellow gems.
The next way is tricky. When a countdown is running, look around the facility for a glowing square. Get it and use it on the clone before time runs out for a 5% boost. I'm not sure where to find them, though.
Lastly, if your clone is the same eye and hair color, you will get a 10% boost when you tell the clone she is ready.
Walkthrough
*note: do everything in the order given, or else the game might break.
Also, don't go into into the prism lab when you are searching for the glowing disks for the 30 second "minigame" or the game will break later.
-
Turn left twice until you see a triangular statue. Go forward.
-
Click the inner triangle. The statue will open and reveal an orb and a pattern inside. Pick up the orb.
-
Take note of the pattern and what parts are and aren't filled in.
-
Return to the courtyard and turn left. Move forward in front of the square statue.
-
Input the same pattern that you saw in the triangle onto the square by clicking on the little squares to make them change color. When you have the correct pattern, the square will open.
-
Collect another sphere and the mallet from inside the square. Return to the courtyard.
-
Turn left twice until you see a sphere statue (pokeball?)Approach it and use the mallet on the inner circle and it will fall in. Retrieve the last sphere.
-
Return to the courtyard and turn right once until you are facing the building. Approach it.
-
Place the three spheres in the three holes in the wall. Two slots have two lines coming out of them, and one has three lines coming out of it. Place the two spheres with right angles on them in the two slots with two lines coming out of them. Place the sphere with the straight line on it in the other slot.
-
Turn the spheres until the lines on them connect with the lines by the slots. Now turn the inner and outer rings so there becomes a line between the two circles outside the grid. When you think you've got it, push the button on the right, and if it was correct, the doors will open. If not, keep messing with it.(sorta hard to explain)
-
Once the doors are open, go inside. You'll be faced with a little mini-map.
-
Go to Office 1. Click and drag the plant to the right to gain access to the mirror. Look in it and you can note your eye and hair color. I'm not sure, but I think the clone you will make later needs the same eye and hair color to reach 100%, but then again I'm not sure.
-
Open the drawer, and read the memo. Not the date, you'll need it later. You can also browse the alien data on the computer if you wish. Animal data has an error and human data is locked. We'll get to that later.
-
Go to the store room and retrieve the purple VR gem, a blue data crystal, and a power capsule. Read the memo and take note of the last two dates. These will be used later.
-
Go to office 2. Take the yellow VR gem off the shelf to the left. Check the computer and record the numbers for the canteen, the park, and the sphere statue.
-
Go to temporal lab. Use the canteen location you recorded and put it into the bar above. Then place the last date you recorded from the log you found in the store room. Please note that you place in the numbers as you found them, no extra zeros required.
-
Activate the machine. You should see a piece of a room with a sink. Open the cabinet under it and grab the key. Reset the machine.
-
Now place in the sphere statue location and the second date from the list in the storage room. Activate the machine and you should see the statue and a toolbox. Open the toolbox and claim the fuse. Reset the machine.
-
Place in the location of the park, and place the date from the pad you found in the drawer in office 1. Activate the machine. There will be a tree and at its base, there will be a scrap of paper. Pick it up. Reset the machine if you want.
-
Go back to the storage room and use the key on the toolbox. Retrieve the spare laser.
-
Go to office 1. Go to the computer terminal and select 'human data'. You will be prompted to input a code. Click the paper scrap you found by the tree in your inventory. It will show up in the upper left corner. Put in the number you see and press the button to open the file. Click the piece of paper to make it go away.
-
Place your crystal square on the screen and wait for the information to download. When it does, pick up the crystal again.
-
Go to the SE Generator room (Soul Energy). Activate the machine. You'll see the lasers firing and eventually a ball of energy will appear. Open the slot in the bottom of the machine with a button, and place in the power core. Close the slot and tell the machine to send the energy to it.
-
Go to the clone room. Place the crystal square on the computer terminal. It will ask you eye color and hair color. I believe in order to achieve 100%, the clone must have the same features as you do, which you check by using the mirror in office 1. Input the data.
-
Zoom back out to view the whole chamber. Open the slot at the bottom of the machine and place the power core. Activate the machine. After a while you will see a clone floating in the water.
-
Activate the machine again and the energy from your core will enter the clone. Wait a while and your clone will be awake and ready to receive orders. First, though, open the slot and take back your power core.
-
Go back to the SE Generator. Click on the panel on the right side of the machine. Remove the blown fuse and add your new one. Rearrange the fuses so both power outputs = 70.
-
Place the power core back in the machine and activate it once again. Put the energy in the core, remove the core, return to the clone room, place the core in the machine, activate the machine, wait, remove the core, and return again to the SE Generator.
-
Click the broken laser to remove it. Replace it with your spare. Fill up the power core again and give the energy to the clone once more.
-
Now that that's over, tell your clone to go to the VR chamber and follow after. Tell her to sit. After that lower the machine's visor and place in the purple gem. Activate the machine.
-
(Optional) Doing this will net you an extra 5% soul. Soul is displayed on the panel in the VR room. When the clone is in the machine and learning, there will be a timer. Frantically look around the whole map, even outside and by the statues to find a glowing symbol. When you do, return to the VR chamber and give it to the girl. You have until the clock finishes to do this.
-
After she finishes the first VR training, insert the yellow gem and repeat the process. Again, explore the map to find another floating symbol. Give it to the girl for another 5% soul bonus.
-
Once she is finished, tell her to go to the Prism Lab. Follow her, open the door, tell her to get in, close the door. Before activating, not the observation room. Now, activate the machine. There will be another glowing symbol somewhere on the map. Find it, return to the observation room, and give it to her for that last bit of soul. When the timer finishes, return to the VR room. It will tell you her current soul level. If it's at 90%, congrats, when you talk to her outside, you will have a perfect ending. If not, try again.
-
Go outside and face the triangle statue. You'll see the clone. Talk to her and tell her she's ready. If you got perfect soul, you will receive the 'cute end'. Otherwise the game is over and you've beaten it.
Have fun :P
I believe there is a bug in the game that prevents me from progressing forward. I'm basing this on reading others' walkthroughs:
I'm not sure the order I put the power core in the cloning machine and the disk with downloaded data into the cloning terminal, but I was never asked for any hair or eye color information. The disk is in the terminal and when clicking I get the message "I can't remove the disk yet." The clone does not appear.
Letting the animations finish is crucial to completing the game. If you interrupt the animation by going to another room, you will often find yourself stuck because whatever the animation was, has now reset and can not be played again.
I've found this out a few times, the hard way. Also, as far as I've seen, the floating objects are in the same location every time. I'll post where when I've finished the game.
I've played a few times, and although the floating symbols do change places, I think there's a pattern to where they appear.
The circle appears outside, by one of the 3 shapes. So far I've seen it inside the cube, and next to the triangle.
The square is in one of the offices. I've seen it twice in Office 2, under the desk, and once in Office 1, next to the mirror.
I haven't been able to find the last symbol though, so if anybody could aid me with places where they have found it, that would be great.
WAH. I played it through again using all the suggestions and again I can't get the lab door open. I opened it several times during my first play through, then this time I opened it only once before building my clone. It wouldn't let me open it more than the once (and my girl wasn't ready). I love these games but I yam discouraged.
One of the really nice things about Mateusz Skutnik's Submachine series is that it gave you notes so that things got written down as you discovered them as well as allowing you to take your own notes. This would have been a great idea to utilize in this particular game. It just got tedious having to go back and find dates and stuff.
Heh, "Soul gives her strength..."
I originally didn't think it was such a good idea to have a character and back story suddenly dropped in my lap for the final game of the series, but at least it stopped me from wandering aimlessly through the game, asking it in vain, "What's the point of this?" The wild goose chases + strict timers almost caught me off guard, but it's a good thing that they're optional.
So all the glowy stuff that was sparkling through the whole series was Soul energy? This stuff can be generated how easily? I guess if you want to clone a new human being, set her to start off in her thirties, then proceed "as per normal" from there, I guess some kind of non-specific Soul Energy would be necessary. Still, the ending was cute.
Brilliant. Loved this game. Though with the chronoporter the game could have been made epic. The possibilities with such a device are endless in a game like this. The other locations on the list could have been used and a few more puzzles thrown in to make it a bit harder and longer, but, thats not to say it's not still a really good game The music was good too. Finished first time round with 85% then after reading the comments realised how to get 100%. I wouldnt have guessed at how to do it and couldnt find any clues anywhere about it, are there any? 5 Mushrooms from me.
Hey there - just finished the game with 85% soul energy, then went back to play it and get 100%
Ended up with 175% !! (as ahown by the screen in the VR suite) but cannot actually complete the game - when I try to speak to her at the end it doesn't do anything...
Anyone else run into this? Just a glitch or an easter egg of sorts...?
Optional - you can charge the core and put it in more than once - I charged it four times in total, which helped a lot (80% by the time I hit the
observation deck for the last soul symbol
[Edit: sax3r, you're using the wrong symbol for your spoiler tags. You need to use the greater than and less than symbols instead of the brackets, which are the shift of the comma and period keys. Please preview your post before submitting when there are spoiler tags. I corrected the spoiler tags in this post. -Pam]
I agree with the above post and have just left my 5star rating. This was one of the few games I have managed without needing at least a hint from the walkthrough. I liked playing a game which is perfectly logical and intuitive with no pixel hunting. Can't wait for the next installment.
By the way, thanks to all of you out there that help to post the walkthroughs - without your help my brain would have exploded ages ago.
I could charge the power core four times!
After putting the ball of energy into the core for the first time, another ball formed by itself instantly. After the vr training she was 85%. I got one of the 5% boosts.
In the end, her soul level was 220%. When I click "You are ready!", nothing happens. Apparently she is far too wise to accept me as her companion!
@ VDOgames a brilliant walkthrough apart from the fact that the lack of the's is driving me insane!! what is wrong with saying "get THE sphere"? it's so annoying that I have stopped mid game to write this! I know you wrote the walkthrough 2 years ago and I really hope that any more you may have done have proper grammar, because this one is actually quite good! It's clear and concise and above all accurate.
