Alice House: No 4. Mushroom and Blue Caterpillar
I'm late, I'm late for a very important game! It's time for more Funkyland with their latest Alice in Wonderland themed escape game Alice House: No 4. Mushroom and Blue Caterpillar. Which is... very green, despite the title. Huh. Regardless, you're trapped once more, and this time you're looking for five caterpillars... or, well, five caterpillar objects. The cursor doesn't change, so it's up to you to search everywhere and figure out what you can interact with, but you'll need a keen eye as well to spot clues to solve puzzles. If you find an item, you can click it in your inventory to highlight it, which will tag it for use so you can try to, um, well, use it. Sometimes the caterpillars will be in plain sight, but others will be more cunningly hidden behind locks. At least one item you'll need to find may fade into the background a little, so keep your eyes peeled and get hunting.
Though still short, Mushroom and Blue Caterpillar is definitely sweet, and thankfully feels a little more complex and challenging than House of White Rabbit. The whimsy that so attracted us to this series to begin with has made a reappearance, and with the exception of an obnoxiously hidden item that may strain your eyes, the puzzles have been kicked up a notch as well. A very slight notch, mind you, as this is still a game most players will fly through thanks to puzzle solution clues tending to be mostly obvious, but it just serves to make Alice House: No 4. Mushroom and Blue Caterpillar just about the perfect size and difficulty to get your escape fix in under ten minutes. The Alice House series is rapidly becoming a favourite for its colourful, fantastical style and quick, clever puzzles, making it one we always look forward to seeing, and boding well for any other "Princess Series" Funkyland decides to come up with in the future.
Short, but quirky and sweet.
Short and sweet. I love Funkyland's games!
I prefer the earlier, more complex, AliceHouse-escapes...
can't wait for the walkthrough on this one. :)
^ Tadaaa!
1. Coin
It's in a box by the door; you need a flower code.
Look at the box to the left of the door: each number on the combination has a flower over it.
There's four kinds of flower around the room. Count them.
The code is 3674.
As well as your coin you'll find a Father William tile inside.
2. Statuette
This is all mushrooms. Start with the wee mushroom button on the window above the door - you need something long to reach it.
Get a stick from the frame to the left of the door. Use this to get the button.
Put the button on the yellow thing. It's a mushroom! Press the button, and it turns left or right. A combination lock?
The clue's in a poster by the door - a mushroom and circling caterpillars. Note that each caterpillar, left or right, is numbered in dots.
The dots indicate order of turns: Three turns to the left, two to the right, one to the left.
3. Poster
This one's in plain sight.
To your right, on the wooden trellis. Note what's behind it. Seem familiar?
4. Book
It's guarded by a bird, but the ladder to the tree is incomplete.
Look to your right. On the floor is an egg; on the window, a key. Grab 'em.
Open the post-box by the door. Pick up the sticks that are inside, and use them to fix the ladder up the tree.
In the tree, put the egg in the bird's nest. The bird will move and reveal the book.
5. Box
You need to have the coin for this. If you have the coin and the poster, you know the answer.
Go to the right, to the wooden trellis. Behind the poster are three Father William tiles, and one missing.
Put your own tile (from the coin box) in the gap.
Rotate the tiles so they all make sense.
"You are old, Father William," the young man said,
"And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head—
Do you think, at your age, it is right?"
Tug the cord to get the box.
Quick, so quick, but delightful.
Could anybody tell me how I might get my hands on the music? Like if they're using free unlicensed stuff from a website or something? Because as charming as these games are I'm in LOVE with that music.
