This is the first one I really liked.
"Oops, hang on, I forgot the controls."
i don't really get it.
@person man:
spoiler-ish
Wing it = see what happens/learn as it goes (making reference to most computer gamers refusing to read the manual first and just learning as they go along).
The joke here is that it's a board game so there's no actual game going on unless everyone knows what the rules are i.e. no computer.
On a personal note, I love this one. This reminds me of the amount of times I've sat there at Christmas with the in-laws and a brand new boardgame, which no-one had ever played, painfully reading the instructions and trying to make people understand.
No-one ever listened so queue arguments and the game was never finished let alone played again.
(Yes, I am one of those rare few who always reads the manual end-to-end for computer games before even playing - apart from 1987 Knight Orc and that polygon style firebird/rainbird produced game of which I can't remember the title, but they both had a novella with it so I only read half each time before skipping to the game).
Hahaha, so true. The best games are the ones that are intuitive enough to made instructions redundant :)
Thanks Syntax, I get it now, but i still don't really find it too funny. Sometimes Babylon Sticks just misses a comic. Oh well, most of thier others are really funny, though.
on a wing and a prayer LoL
that's EXACTLY what I do though, when im about to play a game on the computer, say platform, I NEVER read the instructions! Hmmm, maybe that's why i usually fail.... OH well, i still really like this one, and i love babylon sticks comics!!
Heeee! I'm not big on reading the instructions on board games, either. You should see our version of "Mousetrap!"
Man, I'm worried that Babylon Sticks is going to crowd out all the games on the Top Rated games list. :)
I don't know about you, James, but this IS how my family plays board games.
"Clue" and a little bit of vodka, and you got a whole new perspective on murder!
That's what I did when I first started Monopoly...so it was really hard when I had to play "for real" (in other words, with actual rules :P). Hey, I was six at the time! "Mortgage" had no meaning to me!
Heh, this one is a really for the fans of both boardgames and videogames.
The idea of using a common video game approach by simply opening up a boardgame and casually starting to play without having the slightest idea of how it plays is unexpectedly funny. Especially since this is exactly what plenty of people WANT to do - "screw the rules, let's just start playing and figure out how to play on the way". Of course, these are the same folks who, after losing horribly, complain that you didn't explain *this* particular rule too well and this is EXACTLY why they lost...
Am I one of the few who read the instructions end to end and several times before using it? Am I?
Yes. Yes you are. ;D
Walkthrough
1. Examine the comic and enjoy it.
2. Think about it.
3. Enter your email.
4. Send it to freinds!
5. Get replys and SMILE =D
Excellent. I love how the guy wants to just "HIT play & wing it". Notice there is no actual hitting of play. I'm a "winger" myself! I also have that problem with none of my friends, family, anyone, understanding the crystal-clear way I teach them. I also, with board & card games, like to invent rules or change them, making the game better depending on who you're playing with. For instance, for Monopoly, (because my family makes it take FOREVER, so my dad wants to go to bed & quits) I simply say this. "If you quit mid-game, you may give your "inheritance", your money, property, & all that stuff, to any other players, divided however you wish." Problemo solvedo! ^-^ I am addicted to Babylon Sticks! ^-^
