You know what your life has been missing lately? A good sliding block puzzle game, that's what. The Kieffer Bros. bring us a gorgeous one for Android and iOS called Blockwick 2. The goal is to manipulate the blocks until all like colors (aside from white, which isn't really technically a color anyway) are touching. The controls are very responsive--just slide the blocks around with your finger. You will also notice runes on the playing field. If you can solve the puzzle while also covering all the runes with a colored block, you achieve illumination. While this is not needed to continue, it does make you feel pretty smart and adds an extra challenge to an already challenging game.
Besides lining up the colors, there's a magic pearl to find hidden beneath a block on each level. When you find it, it allows you to skip past the current puzzle should you get stuck, which is a great feature. Just return to the menu and choose the next level. There are nine worlds, and the first starts out as your fairly basic sliding block game. However, each new world adds a different element to keep things interesting. Some blocks stick to other blocks, for example, or others with the same symbol always move together, and some blocks fall asleep and won't move until a like color block touches it. Combining all of these (and more) different types makes for some very interesting puzzles. The game is huge, with 160 levels to boggle your mind, which makes it well worth the purchase price. The puzzles are creative, well designed, and are very engaging. That, combined with a serene soundtrack combine to put this solidly on the don't miss list.
