Bump Bump

DoraNo1Game is best known for the staggeringly enormous catalog of Find the Escape-Men games, so a different escape game is bound to make a few heads perk up in interest. Bump Bump may look like a single-scene game, and, well, it kinda is, but it's got a few surprises up its sleeves too even if it's still on the short and easy side. To play, you just click to interact, and click an item in your inventory to highlight it for use, or on its question mark to get a close up view to see if you can manipulate it in an unexpected way. Sadly, there's no changing cursor to be seen, so if you're stuck, you're going to have to fall back on that ancient gamer prehistoric standby of clicking everything from every angle until you're blue in the face. Don't be fooled, however... there's more here than meets the eye, and you might find your perspective changing in some unexpected ways. Watch your head!

Bump Bump's downside is that its lack of a changing cursor may frustrate people despite its sparse design narrowing down the places you'll have to look, and manipulating some items in your inventory feels a little clunky. While it's short enough to finish inside five minutes or so, however, the clever core mechanic that changes your surroundings feels like it has a lot of potential to be expanded on in games down the road. It's not quite "Like, whoa, dude, you're blowing my miiiiiiiiiind", but "Ooooh, sneaky little duck", which is farther than most games in the genre get these days when it comes to innovation. Most of the puzzles you'll encounter tend to be simply finding and deciphering codes, making Bump Bump the sort of concept that begs to be revisited in the future as an even bigger challenge. No1Game has always been known for making the sort of fun, breezy games best designed to fit perfectly inside a break, and Bump Bump is a clever addition to the roster I hope we see more experimentation with in the future.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

The first time I've attempted to write a walkthrough, hope it's okay:

First stage

Initial view

There are two chests of drawers, a clock on the wall, and a weird semicircular device set into the floor.
You can't do anything with the device right now.
If you click on the clock it tells you it's time for a snack. Maybe once you've escaped.
There's a block on the floor. Pick it up.
If you turn the block over, there are screws on it. Looks like you need a screwdriver.

The left chest of drawers

The top drawer needs a four digit code we don't know.
The middle drawer doesn't have any kind of lock, but it won't open.
If you back out and look at the side, there's a button. But you can't press it while you try to open the drawer.
Can you rest the block against it? No. Darn.
Back to the front of the drawers. The bottom one opens! Take the pink box.

The right chest of drawers

On top of the chest is a green box. Click the side to see a button. The button opens the box, and there's a gold key inside!
There's no way to press the button and get the key at the same time though. Let's check the drawers.
The top drawer opens! And it's empty. Ah, well.
The middle drawer, again, won't open and has no lock.
If you look at the side there's a mark that lines up with the button on the left.
And the bottom drawer is locked.
Now what?

The clock and the pink box

The box wants a four digit code. There's a colon in the middle of the numbers though.

The clock says 3 o'clock. The fact it's "time for a snack" suggests it's 3 in the afternoon (your lifestyle may vary). So the code is

15:00

You have a screwdriver! Unscrew the bottom of the box.
You have a lever! Place it in the semicircle device.
Pull the lever, and...

Second stage

Initial view 2

Well, that was weird.
Can you do it again? No, it just breaks the lever.
The numbers 1234 are now visible in black behind where the left chest of drawers used to be.
If you click the clock now it says "Beautiful Sunset". Lovely.
The green box is open because the button is pressed against what I guess is the floor now.

The chests of drawers 2

Close up and take the key.
The numbers 3456 are written in red on the box lid.
The middle drawer on the top chest still won't open. There's a button on the new ceiling that it used to be pressed against. I guess it needs both of them.
The middle drawer on the bottom chest will! Take the paper. It says "Bla+Blu+R".
Use the key to unlock the leftmost drawer. Inside the drawer is 2345 in blue. We have a code!

Bla+Blu+R means add the black blue and red numbers together. This makes 7035

Use the code on the right drawer in the top chest to get a red key.

The pink box 2

If there's a new message on the clock, can we use the pink box again?

The clock now reads quarter past six. If it's sunset, the code is

18:15

A replacement lever! Place it in the device.
It'll go in, but it won't turn. Great.
There's also a keyhole in the device. Maybe that's what the red key's for?
Yep, use the key on the device so you can pull the lever all the way to the other side. Then do so.

Third stage

Initial view 3

If you click the clock now, it says it's about lunch time. And you never got that snack!
If you click the left wall, it turns out there's a new area.

Door view 1

A door! Finally! It's locked, of course.
There's a panel next to the door with a keyhole in it. Also locked.

Chest of drawers 3

The green box has smashed completely. A circular "part" with 900 written on it seems to have been behind a false bottom. Take it.
You can now open the middle drawer of what is now the bottom chest. Take another "part" with 70 written on it.

Pink box 3

You know how this works now, right?

It's a quarter to twelve, and about lunch time, so the code is

11:45

Take another part. This one has 2 written on it. The parts look like they could fit together to make a key.
If you use them on each other, they apparently just click together. You have a key!

Door view 2

Use the key on the panel.
Looks like you need a three digit code. Luckily, you have one right in front of you.

Add the numbers on the keys (or rather, just put them in the appropriate columns) to get 972

And you're out!

Strange little game, but very fun. A new 'twist' on escape game. One small glitch I noticed.

I was able to get the little gold key twice.

It didn't affect anything, just seemed strange.

Dude! I loved this game! More diverting and clever than even some of the best green men escape games. But that could just be me :p

I've seen this mechanic in escape games before, but never in combination with the

clock...that was a nice touch.

Reply
thegreatescaper July 15, 2014 9:49 PM

Heh, clever mechanic.

I thought, however, there could've been better puzzles related to the mechanic.
At the moment it's just a search around for what has changed.
If at some point the game gave you free movement between the three 'states' and there were more complex puzzles involving back and forthing between.

But, as a clever little 5 min diversion, it does it's job extremely well.

Just in case anyone else runs into this, if you have AdBlock Plus, you have to add this game as an exception or it won't run. That is always the case for me with No1Game's stuff. No biggie but I thought I'd mention it.

Loved it. Clever, logical with no chance to become boring.

Doesn't load. At all.

Just the black box, nothing else. And I've tried several times.

Sorry, didn't see the adblock comment.

Worked fine when excepted.

Pretty easy and logical, no clues needed.
Very playable indeed.

How many of you immediately tried to use that nice heavy-looking block to hold the green switch in, so you could take the key? Sure seemed obvious to me.

MrsRavoon: Heh, yup.

Heh, that's exactly what I tried.
But of course items are protected by an invisible force field unless you are at the place they were intended to be used.

Loved this. Such a creative twist! (hehe, no pun intended) especially with

the clock

Nice.

The no1 game guys are doing some pretty cool things lately. This game was innovative.

I don't like the part at the end where

you have to click the edge of the screen when the whole game up to then had already established that there was just the one view and edge clicking did nothing. You can be innovative and make up all new rules but you can't switch them at the end just to add an artificial level of difficulty.

I encountered a problem during the game:

After using the 2nd lever the screen tilts the other way but not all the way.
I can't interact with anything except the pink box. I tried to insert the code according to the clock:

11:45

Nothing happens.

I will try to restart and play again.

2nd time around it worked fine.
