Chiko: Accidental Alien
Another Web jewel from Australia's Game On initiative, Chiko: Accidental Alien is an exceptionally gorgeous and well-produced Flash adventure game that will keep you busy for hours.
Help Chiko return to Earth after being swept away on a stray rocket shuttle found in a museum's basement. From there Chiko is taken to Squerx, the biggest fun park in the galaxy, where he embarks on a journey that spans three (3) delightful episodes.
The game is huge, with lots of quests, items to collect, and mini-games galore. Many of the mini-games will be familiar, such as a tangram puzzle, and even a Same Game clone. Each of the mini-games is broken into three (3) tasks of increasing difficulty, with each awarding points to unlock additional episodes.
I especially liked the tasks list to remind the player of what to do in case a reminder is needed. My only complaint—so far, as I still have yet to complete the game—is that the mini-game tasks require a lot of play. The term "mini" may be a misnomer here. Still, if what you want is a game that you can come back to again and again, and still not see everything there is to see, then Chiko is your man.
You will need to register with the site to be able to save your game, since there is much more here than can be completed in one session. Please note that the game may take several minutes to download depending on your connection. Broadband highly recommended.
I may update this review as I progress with the game, but I wanted to get something up right away to share it with everyone.
Cheers to Mikael for the game suggestion. =)
I look forward to playing this when I get back home to a faster connection... Six minutes, dear god.
Hi, this game is super!!,
the graphics are fantastic, funny storyline, good animated, (ability to save) . There several mini games included, like, Pac-man, Sokoban, Mastermind, bejeweld and some other.. The bad thing about the game is the preload time, but its worth it.
I,m also stuck at the disco chucker..(i think level 3) its very difficult to beat the score( as misti_rea said) my best score was 111 hits and 31 misses..
hopefully i will beat my record! Good luck everyone!
AHHHHHHH I can't find the extra pieces to complete my FOM card!!!!!!!
Heavilyn - you need to help unclog the pipes by playing a mini-game. In the room where the girl is up on top of a set of pipes, click on each of the pipes to play a mini-game. When you beat each one of those, you'll get a piece for the FOM card. =)
Where's the room with the girl and the pipes?
I'm having trouble tracking down all the records in level 2. I fixed all the other rides, is there a puzzle I need to solve in order to get the last record? Something to do with the big dog thing who throws me off the roof maybe?
I really really LOVE IT!
to get the records:
walk around
walk everywhere
one by the candy
one by the cars (after you win)
one outside the park gate
one by your crashed ship
one in the junkyard
by the creatures
Great game so far Jay! But now I'm waiting for episode 2 part 1... This game makes me feel stupid because it seems kiddy, but I can't beat the medium difficulty on the clogger game.
so is this game multiplayer? or is the login/password just for saving
I beat the first lvl its cool but six minutes? more like 15
its just for saving im on number 2 1/2 YAY!
I hate the bridge game <:(
Well, I'm now at the bit where you're supposed to airpump the roller coaster so you can go fix the power station, but no matter how fast I click, I can't get there.
this looks like a genuinely lovely game and i'm about to start, but i wanted to mention that it appears that Chiko is not in fact part of the Game On initiative, and according to the main site it hasn't even been released yet:
http://www.abc.net.au/onlinespecials/default.htm
go there, and scroll all the way down.
Yes, I noticed that, too, Cami. My guess is the Game On website just hasn't been updated yet to include Chiko's alien adventure. ;)
Ok, so I'm going absolutely crazy trying to finish the very first puzzle game. I just can't get the missing piece. Where is it??
Please Help!
I love the game but i want to download it that be cool!
Nevermind, I got it figured out. This is a very complex game for the simple look of it.
Master_flea, I'm having the same problem with the air pump, have you found a better way to do it yet? Or anyone else have some help?
Where are the missing pieces for the FOM cards?
What girl with pipes? I only see a purple yawning dog upstairs, geez jay, you gotta elaborate, the girl with pipes could be all the way over the other side of the map and we wouldn't knoe that, plus the stepping stones are really annoying.
THERES A FLASH 9 NOW?!!!!!!!
-MANAX
10 minutes and the progress bar didn't move a bit. And thats on 1 Mbit connection. WTF?
I dont usually ask for help, but i have figured out level 1 and im stuck on the part where you have to fix the candy machiene by prising it open..? in level 2! Please can anyone give me a hint :P thanks, much appreciated xx
Done it woot nvm thanx :)
Great game! I'm wating for episode 2.1 to load now... I loved all the mini games and the cute graphics :)
to get the extra pieces for the FOM card -
First go back to the ship, and take a left turn to get to the funfair. Head straight inside and talk to the guy standing like a crab (?) and he will give you a card with a familiar symbol on it. Go back to the junkyard and click-drag this card onto the door which you couldn't enter before.
You can then enter the area with the girl and 3 pipes. Play and complete each game (you can do them all at easy, but I think getting a high score will help you later on) and you get 3 parts. Go back to junkyard and play the game again - hey presto!
childofsai
ahhhhh
we have to download it
6 minutes?
thats insane
Sidd - it's not a "downloadable" game, per se, but like all Flash games, an initial (and automatic) download of the Flash SWF file is needed before you can play.
The reason why this one takes so long is because the game is HUGE.
Wow, cool game some things are a pain but it is great fun!
But I would have to sit on the computer all day to do it all. LOL
Also stuck on the air pump. Perhaps it is a glitch in the game?
I can't seem to find Dag-Dah to get him to approve my license (in episode 3). I know he's on top of that tower thing, but i can't seem to get up there. I've already tried the dancing game to get into the air, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. What should I do?
Ok so I've beaten the first episode and it was fun. I've started playing the second episode last night and now I have to redownload it...strange? Also what do you do with that piece of candy that looks like an egg that you find in the candy counter?
I was also wondering about the egg thing... but the more you click on it, the more of them you get, so maybe we're supposed to have more than one?
What I really like about this game is the FOM thing... you have the motivation to try higher levels on the "minigames" which by the way take me at least half an hour each : ). The games are really challenging too, and not just in the classic fast-and-accurate clicking way, but you have to use your brain. I like games that exercise the mind... : ). I really like this game, Jay! And I'm super-glad it works on my computer, because some of your games don't.
the air pump is driving me nuts. is that seriously the only way? is there something you have to do before?
This may be old news but for anyone having trouble with the candy counter game, I have a method that I believe is full-proof:
Pick one candy to start with, and put a peice of that candy in all 6 slots to start with. If any of them turn green, repeat that candy in the next 6 slots. Pick another candy and put that same peice in all slots that didn't turn green on the other candy. If you keep repeating this, I'm pretty sure there's no way you can lose, even on the highest level. : ) I learned this by playing Mastermind!
The flipping air pump (pardon me, but it IS that irritating) is making me want to die. I'm sure this must be an error, because I after I stop clicking, it's like a full minute wait before the animation starts.
my animation pauses, too. do you have weird jerky animation, sometimes? perhaps our CPUs are not the free-frolicking children they once were?
To use the pump I used the mousekeys setting and clicked #5 on the key pad as well as the mouse button feverishly well past the "Time is up" message and finally made it up that rail.
Good Luck
You guys must be really slow clickers, I did that on my first try. Just like everyday on Jay is Games, Click to your hearts content!
Lovely game, Jay. Thanks!
Anden15, I was stuck for quite a while in the same place - but I figured it out. It's a two step process.
First, and this is the hard part, you need to ...
...use a move arrow which is tucked away just above the disco's exclamation mark icon. This triggers a replay of the bounce.
Then, time-sensitive...
...drag the tentacle (which you got from near the candy counter during part three) to the tower. Which in turn raises the question...
Does the rope do anything at all? Or is it just an adventure-gaming inside joke - you always need rope! Similarly, does the candy item(s) do anything besides cause the petting-beastie to chuck you over the edge?
Good find!
I've gotten over the 95 points, but now I can't
find Dag Dah to get my license verified.
Anyone know where he is?
To Eric Finley:
The rope is used to
attach to the tree by the ship and the mushroom hop thingy. So you can just swing across instead of wasting your time memorizing the mushroom pattern.
Well, I think the air pump problem may be a glitch or something. I tried it from a different computer and it worked just fine, got it on the first try. If your screen is freezing a bit or slowed right as they leave the station, try saving your game and reloading, or find someone with a better computer.
For people having trouble with the pump, it's probably either a problem with your connection or (and this is more likely) your web browser isn't the best one to use. I tried switchin from Safari to Firefox and got it on my first try. This might help a little with the disco game too. If anyone has a way to skip or cheat through it though, it would be really nice to know.
I hate the disco game so much...
hello im stuck on the part where you use the items from the ship. whats the bicycle pump used for and the car thing and the crank wheel?
plz tell
plz
I love the minigames and the game itself but one thing bugs me - the game is heavily unbalanced.
For instance, did anyone pass the "awesome" level of Clogger 1? I've been trying for a few hours and it's next to impossible since you ALWAYS have to start from the beggining. But "awesome" level of clogger 2 is easy as a pie, just click-click-click.
Can someone please explain me how is it possible in the candy game to have 5 green candies and one yellow?
If that ain't a bug I dunno what is.
OK I get it. With duplicates on, orange means either wrong lolly in the wrong jar OR wrong duplicate in the wrong jar. Still a bug since it's counter intuitive, though.
I was totally possesed by the dance game. I had to win it at the highest level. It must have taken me two dozen tries. I had as few as 4 mistakes on the first song, and as few as 11 on the second, and eventually got to 23 on the third.
I also enjoyed the roller coster building game.
The most frustrating thing about the mini games is that you might win the first two stages, and lose the third, but then you would have to do all three stages again. I wish I could just keep playing the final stages that I lost.
Pleseeeeeee where do I use de air pump to fix the coaster station????? i'm so stuck!!!!!!
I accidentally left the junkyard, so I had to do the stepping stones again. But when I got to the end, Chiko didn't enter the junkyard. He just stood there.
I love the diner dash clone.
In sokoban game the dude is moving two spaces instead of one! Does anybody have the same problem?
Needless to say, I cannot pass this part of the game like this. Darn.
I do not like the disco chucker... it's jerky and the music makes you want to press the buttons on the beat, but if you hit it on the beat then you miss... I can't seem to beat it even on the lowest level.
Is anyone else having problems with the screen not being big enough? I can't even get to my inventory because of it.
hi can you help me??
Im in ep. 2 and I don't know how to activate the candy counter mini-game. Can you please, please help me????
Indie
OK final verdict:
The game is very polished, colourful and very nice. I like the mini-game concept, the story is childish but eh, the music is great and all in all it's a satisfying experience. Mostly.
But now the bad. The game is heavily unbalanced and untweaked. The biggest mistake is the punishing "awesome" levels which are not only tough but needlessly long and require you to repeat them all over from the start if you mess up. Repeating only the failed level would kick the game's quality up quite a few notches. Also, some more puzzles wouldn't hurt, as well as taking care of some interface issues and bugs.
But all in all, quite a good entry. Thanks, Jay.
Hey, im stuck on ep 3 in the ship and all the powers gone! please help iv been at it over and over again!
Bah done it :P
So, I've been meaning to say this about my experience with the game:
Super fun, very enjoyable... but there are those little bugs. I played it on my mom's computer, which is about a year newer than mine (forever in computer language), + the air pump was about the easiest thing I've ever done. Same browser, different computer. Whatever, there are some things they need to work out, but I love the idea.
Am I the only one who can't get this game to work? It looks really fun, but I get a "Cannot be displayed" message every time I try to load it.
Saki - I just tried and had no trouble loading the game. Maybe the site was down when you tried, and it's back up again?
Indie - to activate the candy counter game
use the car-jack you got on the space ship to wedge the jaws open
I am stuck... I keep meeting up with the monster yawning ~ I can't go beyond there... but I noticed that if I played a game or two it would switch back to the carnival again... what am I doing wrong... other than pulling my hair out?
i'm playing level (chapter?) 2, and i've fixed all the games, but for some reason i still cannot play the disco game. the dj has all the records, but the exclamation point is still greyed out.
am i missing something?
Divy: I was a little puzzled at that point too, but it turns out that you can't play the DJ game until a later point in the story.
All in all, that was a remarkable game with a lot of charisma, and I'm glad that I had the chance to play through it. Thanks Jay. :)
UGH! Never mind! There are two stair wells, one goes to the yawning monster and one back to the ship... I cannot believe I fell for that! LOL
So about the diner dash-esque game... I'm finding it impossible to make it past the unreal level because my computer runs so slow. Is there any way to get around that?
Divy ~ try going back to the ship first... then try the disco
Very Nice! Finished with (or decided to stop at) 129 points. HATED the disco chucker! Couldn't beat the awesome level for the Coasters and Clogger -- if only it allowed you to start at the last completed level...
You can get past the pump part very easily if you have a double-click button on your mouse, just use that instead of a regular click! :)
how do you get the coaster to go up the rail lwith the tiny little air pump ????
please help im really stuck
AJ... Is the green monster in the coaster?
if he is... use the air pump on him not the coaster. if he is not, you are not ready to use the pump yet. Pretty sure the power has to be off in order to use the pump. Hope that helps!
help!! the power is off & I'm stuck in the ship!
Sprigli...
In order to leave the ship again you need to:
use the turn wheel that you have in your inventory on a hole right next to the door... it cranks the door open
Ugh! I've got 94pts for my license! I keep winning games, but it won't let me get another point! I'm confused :o(
Well, I'm about to play the game. It looks fun though, my little sister has been playing since yesterday and she really likes it.
By the way, Jay, awesome website.
Haha, this game is really cute.
I'm going to start episode 2 now.
Any idea how to contact tech support for this game? My login stopped working and I can't find a help area on the web site (I found the user's forum, but there's no relevant information there).
Uh oh. Yesterday I started, and it worked fine. I saved my game and everything, but now I'm trying to log in again. it says welcome and everything, then goes to a green screen and plays the theme music. I'm using mozilla firefox, help!
Never mind, I just restarted the game. Anyway, I'm almost finished with level 2, how do I get the disco game started? I have all 5 records, and the exclamation point is still grey when i put my cursor over the cat paws. Clicking on the cat guy only gets a 'Hey...you talkin' to me?" response.
i just cant get past the bit where u hav 2 pump to get power i need ergant help PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!
How many meters long is the 'Treading the Bridge' game? Anyone that can help, your time is much appreciated.
i am stuck in the ship how do i get out
The last time I played this game I had trouble w/ the pumping...then I realized it was because somebody had spilt lemonade on it! New mouse, excited to see what happens :)
These mini games are not going to well for me. They need to make some cheats lol. i have like 68 points and cannot beat anymore games...well i guess my ADD won't let me beat any games, because i'm sick of trying. If anyone knows anyway to keep going without winning every game, please let me know
cant find out how to free last gardener -twitches-
Hit:107
miss:17..
beat that! 0.0
Alright it appears no one has posted for a while but I'll still put my question up.
This game is adorable and fun but the problem is it makes firefox "unexpectedly quit" (although by now it's expected) everytime I play it. Anyone having the same problem? My computer is brand new and I have fast internet service so how can I solve this?
HELP what do I do in the lollie game!!!!
i cant get to dag-dah (GRRRR) and my disco chucker has never worked... do u think that might be why?
I can't save... whenever I do it just keeps swirling and swirling and it won't stop and I have to keep re-playing... AND ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! Any comments, or helpful suggestions...?
-Tezmara
can anyone post spoiler on candy counter game..i don't get it.
also anyone else have trouble to save? i left computer on all night to save and no luck. i log back into a green screen :( lost all game..
thx!
Fun so far, but how do you get a save to finish? I've tried twice before and it registers the user name but no mini-game information was saved when I logged in later. Also there seems to be no way to continue a saved game. I'm trying my 3rd save game now it's been running for over 45 minutes with no end in sight as there seems to be no communication with the site and nothing seems to be being written to my computer. I'm using SeaMonkey (the reincarnation of Mozilla). I'd really like to finish the game without having to use Internet Explorer or stay up all night.
how do you do that last part were you have to get all 4 of the gardeners?
help Im stuck on gardener 3 level 3
PS great site jay Ive been on for a while but this is my first post =)
OMG!! the disco chucker is sooooo anoying . im on the bit where you have to find dag-dah and i cant do it !! anyone know any way to skip this part of the game ... it would be very.helpful !!!
How do you finish the 10th puzzle 2 get the FOM card?
HELP???
Boy,you're slow people! I finished the game in two days! And I'm only a kid, which probably means kids play better than adults. Hehe! Kids Rock! Hey, have you played the sequel?
If you didn't you probably live out of the geographic location. You have to live in Australia or the islands that surround it. The sequel is pretty cool.
What a great game. It was easy not hard. Okay?
I can't get over the rails! I can pump the green thing until it says times up, but I still can't get over the rails! What do I do?
I can't get past the power faliure. Please help .
So was there any point in those green and orange eggs other than
feeding them to the adorable furry thing to have it throw you half way across the game?
Yep, the green and orange eggs
give you 5 'secret' bonus points when the furry thing sends you flying
Is it just me, or does the visual style of this one seem similar to that of Scarygirl?
Can somebody create a walkthrough for episode 1?
Please?
how do you keep the candy counter open please help me!
I need help im on ep. 2 part 2 and i can't get the monster guy in the coaster to get to the power plant!! PLZ show spoiler i'm BEGGING!!!
to keep the candy counter thing open u need to use the crank thing and i need help to beat minkie at disco chucker!!!!
Unfortunately this game does not appear to be available any more. Shame - I was looking forward to revisiting it.
As the game link didn't work for me I looked for and found an alternate one:
http://web.archive.org/web/20061128043214id_/http:/www2.abc.net.au/chiko/chiko.htm
Enjoy!
Pretty interesting game and lots of effort put into it with voices and stuff but I got to the part where you build the coasters and that was it for me. I didn't want to keep doing that.
Also, since the game doesn't exist in its original location anymore, would the save feature even work anymore?
Update
