DoraDismantlement: Mobile WatchI don't know about you guys, but I love taking things apart to see how they work. I'm, um. Not so good at the whole "putting it all back together in proper working order" part, but maybe if my Grandmother's radio had had a bomb in it, I would've been a hero instead of just in trouble that one time when I was six. Gam.eBB.jp knows your curiosity will save the day, however, and rather than sending you to bed without any dessert, the Dismantlement series of point-and-click puzzle games rewards your ingenuity!... admittedly by not blowing you up, but hey, that's still something. Dismantlement: Mobile Watch is the latest installment, and once again it's up to you and your beloved screwdriver to expose the sinister, ticking heart behind this deceptively ordinary device.

As usual, the approach is straightforward; just click on various parts of the screen to interact with the watch and look for clues since the solutions won't always be obvious. Gam.eBB.jp has been exposing the insidious truth behind typical objects for nearly two years now, and if their popularity proves anything, it's that all of you harbour secret MacGuyver fantasies. (It's okay; I won't judge you, even though I'm more of a Magnum P.I. gal myself.) It seems unorthodox problem solving versus potential explosive death is a winning combination, and Mobile Watch is another solid installment in the quirky series. So get solving, and then call up anyone who ever got you in trouble for taking things apart as a child and tell them you weren't being a brat, you were just in training.

Dismantlement: Mobile Watch Walkthrough

General Information

  • When you start, the time on the watch will be the same time as your computer.

  • To change the time: click on the winding knob at the top of the watch once. From there you can move it left or right to control the minute hand.

  • Click on the winding knob at the top twice (all the way up) and you can use the left or right controls to move the hour hand.

  • Remember that Japan uses 24 hour time (also known as military time). 15:00, for instance, is 3:00 in the afternoon. When in doubt, subtract 12 from any number over 12 to get the correct time.

  • Good luck!

Getting the Back Casing Off

  • Click on the "To Rear" button in the upper right corner to go to the back of the watch.

  • Notice that between the 9 and the 3 are some diamonds. Look closely and you will see that one corner of each diamond is white tipped.

  • The white tipped areas of the diamonds are arrows. Looking at the pattern you will see: up, left, right, up, down, down.

  • Click the "To Front" button in the upper right corner to go back to the face of the watch.

  • You are going to use the arrow controls on the winding knob on the top of the watch. While you are following the directions, notice how the knob controls the hour and minute hand.

  • Move the knob up once, then left, then right, then up, then down, then down (after you click on it the first time to move it up, notice the arrows that appear to help you move it around).

  • Once you move the knob in the correct pattern you will hear a click, and you will see four sections of the back have released.

  • Click on the "To Rear" button to move to the back.

  • Click on the back casing to remove it.

Getting the Next Back Layer Off

  • There are a few things to notice here. First, there's something that says 6:00 sky. There are also a bunch of white buttons. Notice the word "start" near one of them.

  • Click on the "To Front" button to move to the watch face.

  • You need to set the time to 6:00 am. That means (for those who have gone entirely digital), put the big hand on the 12:00 position and the little hand on the 6:00 position.

  • Watch the sky scenery in the center as you are setting the watch. 6:00 am means dawn is just breaking, so the sun should just be making an appearance on the horizon on the left.

  • Remember, to move the big (minute) hand you need to move the knob up once, to move the small (hour) hand you need to move the knob up twice.

  • If you set it at 6:00 and the sky on the dial is dark, just move the hour hand all the way around the clock back to 6:00 again until you see the sun just beginning to appear on the left.

  • You will also know that you are in the correct place because you will see a constellation (with lines) appearing in the sky.

  • Look closely at the constellation. Does that look like the arrangement of buttons on the back (you can click on the watch face for a close up)?

  • Screenshot.

  • Go to the rear of the watch.

  • Now that you've set the time correctly notice that the flywheel is now working.

  • Look at the buttons on the back, and starting where you see "start", retrace the constellation pattern, clicking each button once.

  • Screenshot.

  • This will cause the buttons to disappear, revealing screws. Click on each screw to remove them (8 screws in all).

  • Once all of the screws are gone you can remove the two white gears on top of the back layer.

  • Once the gears are off, click on the back layer to remove it.

  • Now remove the rest of the gears (note which ones are on top of each other and take the topmost first).

  • This leaves you with the back inside casing.

Back Inside Casing (Part 1)

  • Notice that there are two small "flaps" in the casing, one in the lower middle and one in the upper left of the back casing.

  • Click on the one in the lower middle first for a close up, then click on the flap to open it.

  • This needs a four digit code. Underneath each of the code keys are some times: 17:00, 19:00, 11:45, and 12:15.

  • Above the code key is a circle with an arrow pointing to it.

  • Close the flap, back up, and go to the front of the watch.

  • You need to set the time to match each of the four times you saw on the code key. Remember, this is 24 hour time, so 17:00 is 5:00 pm, 19:00 is 7:00 pm, 11:45 is 11:45 am, and 12:15 is 12:15 pm.

  • When you set the times, watch the sky in the background. At 5:00 pm, for instance, the sky should start getting dark on the left. At 7:00 pm, it should be dark. At 11:45 and 12:15, it should be full daylight.

  • As you set each time, notice that the hour hand has a circle on it, and at the set time it will stop so that a number is in the circle.

  • You will probably need to click on the watch face for a close up to read the numbers in the circle, they are small.

  • Each time will give you a different number.

    • Screenshot.

    • Once you set all four times, you should have the code 6 (5:00 pm), 5 (7:00 pm), 3 (11:45 am), 8 (12:15 pm).

  • Back up from the close up and go to the back of the watch.

  • Click on the lower middle flap for a close up, then click on the flap to open it.

  • Enter the code. If you entered it correctly you will hear a click and the little lock symbol in the lower right will go from closed to open.

  • Close the flap and back up.

  • Two more screws will have appeared, remove them.

Back Inside Casing (Part 2)

  • Now click on the flap in the upper right of the back casing for a close up. Click on the flap to open it.

  • This needs a four letter code.

  • Above the code key are four circles. Each circle has a small square on it, in a clock position. From left to right: 12:00, 9:00, 6:00, and 9:00.

  • Each square has a dark side and a light side. Note the positions of the sides of the squares.

  • Close the flap, back up, and go to the clock face.

  • Basically, the clue is in the position of the square (the time it indicates) and which side is dark.

  • Screenshot.

    • Starting with the first position, 12:00. Notice the Roman Numerals on the face. Using the squares, determine which letter is in the "dark" position of the box and the "light" position of the box.

    • For instance, with 12:00, the X is in the left "dark" position of the box, the II is in the right "light" position. So the clue here is X.

    • For 9:00, the number is on its side, with I on the bottom and X on the top. The dark position of this box is on the bottom, so the letter is I.

    • For the 6:00 position, the number is upside down. The V is on the right and the I is on the left. The dark position of the box for this one is on the right, so the letter is V.

    • Back to the 9:00 position again, this time the dark side of the box is on the top, so the letter is X this time instead of I.

    • This gives you a clue of X I V X.

  • Go to the back of the watch, then click on the upper right flap for a close up.

  • Click on the flap to open it, then enter the code.

  • If you enter the code correctly you will hear a click, and the lock symbol in the lower right will move to open.

  • Close the flap and back up.

  • Two more screws will have appeared. Click on them to remove them.

  • Click on the back inside casing to remove it. You should now see a white back, the bomb, and a small dial underneath the bomb.

Activating the Bomb

  • You can't look at the bomb until you activate it.

  • Go to the front of the watch.

  • Look closely at the outside of the watch face. There are two small lines, one above the 12, one below the 6.

  • Remember the clue for 6:00, way back in the beginning?

  • You need to set the clock back to 6:00, so that the hands line up with the lines.

  • Screenshot.

  • Once the hands are lined up, go to the back of the watch.

  • Now click on that dial below the bomb for a close up.

  • Use the arrows to move the dial to the 6:00 (down) position.

  • Back up and go to the front of the watch.

  • Click on the watch face and you can remove the crystal (the watch face will turn white).

  • Click on the middle of the face for a close up and remove the minute and hour hands by clicking on them.

  • Once the hands are removed you will see a screw in the middle, remove it.

  • Back up and go to the back of the watch.

  • Click on the bomb area. You will see a nut below the red button and above the "danger" area. Click on the nut to remove it.

  • Now click on the "danger" plate to remove it.

  • The countdown has begun! You now have 5 minutes to dismantle the bomb.

Dismantling the Bomb

  • This requires a four letter code. Notice the pictures of what look like dice above the code key.

  • Don't try to click the dial in the lower right until you get the code, otherwise you will blow up.

  • The key to the code is in the dice. Look closely at the circles in the dice.

    • Each circle in the dice has a dark side and a light side. Consider the dark side as a directional arrow.

    • From a circle, draw a line in the direction of the dark side of the circle. If you do this for each of the dots, you will see blocky letters form.

    • Screenshot.

    • Draw the lines correctly and you will get the letters C E O H.

  • Enter the four letter code into the key, then click on the dial on the right to deactivate the bomb.

  • If done correctly the light above the bomb will turn green. If not, then boom.

  • Click on the countdown timer to remove it and expose another screw.

  • Click on the screw to remove it.

  • Now click on the black part of the bomb assembly (where the timer was) to remove it.

  • Back up.

  • Click on the gray area to remove it. The back should be completely white now.

  • Click on the white area to remove it and you are done!

Fantastic fun for a Friday!! I love the Dismantlement series - usually painless and self-completed. Lets see how this goes =)

Reply

Made it up to

The panel where you put in 4 letters underneath 4 circles pointing in different directions

and then I got stuck. I'm not sure what it's indicating. Any help?

Reply

So figured out how to get the back off easily enought, but not sure what to do about the

"6 :00 sky" part or the start button. I've set the clock to 6 both am and pm, but not sure what to do next....

Reply

Ruka: does anything on the front dial represent anything on the back. Make sure you set it to the correct 6:00.

Reply

I too am stuck at the same part at you Regy Rusty. Can't find the correlation yet.

Reply

and right after my post I figure it out... up to where Regy is now

Reply

To solve Regy Rusty's problem,

Look for letters on the clock face.

Specifically, in the positions of the inner black rectangles.

Anonymous March 4, 2011 11:00 AM

You have to put in 4 Letters. Remember that roman numbers consist of letters ....

Stuck with the bomb. Help, anyone?

Reply
Anonymous March 4, 2011 11:00 AM

Just got the letters figured out. Assume the partly shaded blocks do not apply to the hands of the clock, but rather the clock itself.

Reply

But I'm stuck on

the bomb. I have a little combination-lock-style twelve-position wheel, but I don't see any clues left.

Spinning it like a clock does nothing. Spinning it like a combination lock, for either of the four-digit sequences on the face, does nothing.

Reply

@Regy Rusty

I had a hard time on this one as well.

But after reading your post I just thought :

Letters, circles...
Can you find letters arranged in a circle ?

What if the symbols meant some of the letters set around in circle.

Roman numbers are just... letters ;)

With those clues you should find the answer already, but in case you need a full explanation :

The symbols are for the letters used to indicate the hour on the front side. Just take the dark half of the symbol, and you should have something like

X I V X

Hope that helped ^^

Was a fun one, with some challenges (well scratched my head a few times for some of the puzzles).

Find it rather short in the end, but still a nice one :)

Reply

Dismantled! That was a pretty good one. The letter puzzle was a bit of a stumper, usually eBB's graphic hints are a bit easier to interpret. I fiddled with the clock hands for a while thinking the dark and light patches on the hints were supposed to represent day and night on the picture wheel. Still, another smooth entry in the series. Love seeing these pop up at JiG.

Ezra, that's what I thought, but neither

xivi (for 12, 9, 6, 6)

doesn't work

Stuck with the bomb too :-(

Help, anyone?

Reply

@Erza

I got it with trial and error.

Turning around randomly, I couldn't find where to set it.
But I think the solution is just to set it to a specific solution.
There is one special position indicated by the front.

from what I understood later, just set it down (to 6:00 position) to match the little sign at the bottom of the front side.
This will let you remove the glass cover on the front side.

Reply

No. 2661 (that's not a spoiler by the way)

Reply

I'm not sure how I did it, but here is what I ended up with when completing the little dial:

Minute hand pointed straight north
Hour hand pointed straight south
Dial pointed straight south

Then when I clicked on the glass and the hands of the clock they came off revealing a screw.

Reply

Ezra, you actually aren't on the bomb yet. :)

Try rotating the dial to any position. Then look around the watch carefully to see if anything has changed.

Reply

I feel really dumb, because I can't even get the back off.

Reply

I've been confused...

...since I started! I cannot figure out the first puzzle at all, even with hints

Reply

Hmm... stuck on the bomb...

Clearly all the clues we need are right on the bomb panel (since you can't leave it to look at other features), and I've been thinking it's some hint at a digital display of characters, but can't figure out the dark and light semicircles.

... and have been thinking... I'm sure a bomb inside of a pocketwatch can't be too potent... 5 minutes should give me plenty of time to get some distance from the watch. I think the best solution right now would be to toss it under a heavy object and use the rest of my 5 minutes to get as far away as possible.

Just connect the dots ...

Mad Hatter March 4, 2011 11:29 AM

What dots?! I'm ready to take a bite out of this stupid watch and your talking about FLIPPING DOTS!!!

So the bomb puzzle has me stumped...

I'm guessing the dots are the only clue we'll need and I've been trying to think of it as a digital display clue, but can't figure out how to draw the lines based on the dark/light hemispheres to make letters

... but it's just a pocket-watch, right? How powerful could the bomb really be? Why don't I just take the 5 minutes to get as far away as possible?

Reply

@Ruka

Actually, it's XIVX for 12,9,6,9

Now has anyone figured out the combination to disarm the bomb? I can't make heads or tails of the clue they give.

Reply

try this ...

the dark hemispheres indicate the direction in which to draw a line

Yeah, same here. All they make for me is:

an umbrella or upwards arrow

Gabe: Have you

Adding my name to the ranks of those who cannot even get the back cover off. I've spun things, looked at things, clicked things...what very obvious element am I missing, here? (And "connect the dots" doesn't help me, either, by the way).

Reply

I can't figure out the letter puzzle. Someone previously said to

look for letters on the clock face, but unless I'm supposed to somehow decipher it from T3680 and SINCE 1926, I have no idea.

And even that doesn't make sense to me.

Reply
Dragonxpert March 4, 2011 12:04 PM

To get started:

Perhaps the 9 and 4 indicate a time?

Perhaps the diamonds indicate movement of something.

Say a knob?

Reply

I was pleasantly surprised -- not long, but the puzzles were logical for the most part. My 2 sticking points were: some weird disconnect on my part trying to select the correct letters for the first letter puzzle, and figuring out the combo dial.

it relies on a number you have seen before, not on the position of the hands that I could see (I set mine at high noon)

The bomb puzzle was a little stumper-esque (it's a word!) so I died because I misinterpreted the first letter. Otherwise, it was quick, but amusing.

Reply

Finally got the bomb right,

Try imagining lines going out of the arrows, do they form anything?

First letter is a C...

Walkthrough:

  1. Look at back. Notice there are signs pointing in different directions.

  2. Return to front. Pull, push or turn knob on top according to drawing on back.

  3. Remove back

  4. Notice a point marked "start". Notice "6:00 SKY"

  5. Return to face, pull out knob twice, turn in any direction. notice that there are stars that are connected in the inner dial.

  6. Go back, push circles in indicated sequence.

  7. Remove all screws and cog-wheels. Notice a flap near center

  8. Zoom in and open flap.

  9. Notice different time-indications and something pointing to a circle.

  10. Return to front. Set indicated times and notice numbers in circle of hour hand.

  11. Go to back and set the numbers relating to indicated time.

  12. Remove two screws.

  13. Zoom in to flap in upper right quadrant and open it.

  14. Notice there are squares divided into dark and bright halves.

  15. Go to front. Notice that roman numbers consist of one or more letters.

  16. Go to back and enter the letters that are indicated by dark halves.

  17. Remove two screws and everything else. Notice a dial at 6 o'clock.

  18. Return to face and notice two markers, one on the housing and one on the dial. Try to get them "in touch" by turning said dial on back.

  19. Return to front. Remember "6:00 SKY". Set the hands to 6 o'clock, so that the inner dial shows sky.

  20. Click on dial. Click on hands to remove them, remove screw.

  21. Go to back. Remove nut from bomb and open flap.

  22. Notice, while the time remaining is counting down, that there are circles with dark and bright hemispheres.

  23. The dark hemispheres indicate the direction in which to draw a line.

  24. Enter the resulting letters, disarm bomb, remove display.

@symar

It was a good hint, but a confusing one. Consider the two rectangles as the letters of the hours on the clock.

So for the first one (12), it would be X because the two letters were X and II. I hope this makes sense.

LeonardBanks March 4, 2011 12:09 PM

That help. Thanx

Reply

I got it now, thanks for the walkthrough. Duh,

the roman numerals

Reply

I think the problem many of us were having getting started is

the first "up" motion of the knob happens before the arrows show up. If you were like me, you raised the knob then tried the sequence, which doesn't work because the up arrow disappears

Reply

I still do not get the first puzzle, not with the set of three hints just given, not with the walkthrough, not with anything that's been posted so far. Somebody please spell it out in excruciating detail for me, the idiot, so I can move on with my life. Thank you.

Reply

Hmmm, Ican't seem to disarm the bomb... I can't make sense of what the letters are supposed to be

You have to....

turn the knob up, left, right, up, down, down

Okay, finished without walkthrough and then read spoilers, sorry deCarlo, that's not quite a walkthrough you wrote there. It's close, but it's little more than a hint through.

Reply

@stupid, or anyone else still having trouble with the first step

Clicking on the knob the first time (before the arrows appear) counts as your first "up". You don't want to know how long I sat there going, "But I can't click the "up" arrow again!"

The hint in the walkthrough about the bomb is terrible.

Reply

I loved it. Really original puzzles, especially the bomb. That's hardly a hint, though it might help to know you have to think outside the box of dismantlement and room-escape puzzles you're used to.

I hated that I needed the walkthrough for the first puzzle. It's hard to understand why the 9 and 3 hang out on the back as they point you in the exact wrong direction. That's hardly a hint either, no spoiler tags.

Ok, the second one in fact is a very subtle hint ; )

@RosebudMarie --

Draw the dots on a piece of paper.

Where you have a dot that is half dark, draw a line from the dark half in the direction the dark half is facing until it meets another dot.

If you have a dot that has no dark half, do nothing with that dot.

So if you have the following 4-dot pattern, where * = the dark half of a dot, o = the light half, and Q = a dot with no dark side,

o *o
*
Q *o

you draw lines as follows:

o {---------*o
*
|
|
|
v
Q {---------*o

...and get the letter "C."

Fritware March 4, 2011 4:28 PM

Ah, the bomb puzzle. Virtually all of the puzzles had something to do with the manipulation of the clock, and then BAM,

one which has nothing to do with clocks at all, except for the one ticking mercilessly towards destruction. My initial instinct was that this was unfair, but I reconsidered...it is a valid challenge to require the player to clear his/her mind of the preconceptions laboriously built over prior puzzles in order to approach the last one with an open mind. The fact that the puzzle looks like a set of dice might even be taken as a hint that this is a puzzle entirely different premise, even though dice have nothing to do with the answer either.

Oh, I suppose that the digital readout might be a clock-related hint for the dot patterns with six dots, but not for the four dot patterns -- and even at that you have to stop thinking about analog devices and roman numerals...

Reply

Ugh... the first puzzle...

Using the arrows on the back with the arrows you use to turn the knob was just stupid. Those arrows to turn the knob are part of the "action" - like moving around. I was thinking it had to do with the symbols on the actual clock, which, to be honest, seems much more logical.

I like the Dismantlement series, but this one wasn't very intuitive for me. I'd gotten to the point of being able to figure out the last few without a walkthrough, but I needed hints several times on this one.

Reply

I signed up just to comment. These dismantlement games can be very frustrating. Second, this is probably the vaguest walkthrough ever written in Jayisgames. Some would ask me why I wouldn't write a walkthrough, well because I'm not smart enough to figure out the damn puzzle in the first place. To figure out the first step, don't flip front to back in order to input the directions into the crown. Memorize the steps and input them all together. That is the problem that I had.

The walkthrough is more of a hint-through, Big_G. Although, I agree, a true walkthrough would be helpful for those of us who either can't figure out the hint-through or are too lazy to do so.

I don't know if it's just my computer malfunctioning or if it's a glitch, but at the very last screw right after solving the bomb puzzle, the screw pops up and I click on it and it makes the unscrewing sound, but it doesn't disappear. Every time I click it, I hear the sound and yet, nothing happens.

Oh well, I guess I'll never see what a dismantled moblie watch looks like :P

Anyway, this one was a really good Dismantlement. Nice balance of some simple puzzles and some toughies. Very nice :)

Reply

Yeah, deCarlo's walkthrough leaves some things unanswered...

I'm at the part after the XIVI puzzle where I'm supposed to turn a dial to line up marks on the watch... and I can't find a dial anywhere on the watch like the one he says.

This one was a toughy... Especially the last part when you would think it had to do with the clock!

I tought the first walkthrough was ok. I don't like when all the solutions are spelled out in-your-face, and usualy I just need a hint..
It seems the usual Dismantlement (and other) walkthroughs are so good, they made us a bit spoiled (probably 'couse of so many spoiler tags).. Way to go, community and Jayisgames! :-)

The Dismantlement series is a great way of showing that for good intelligence you don't need just good "processing" capabillities, but also good perception; the puzzles are usualy logic, but if you don't spot subtle visual hints, you'll have hard time solving them..
Here I didn't noticed

subtle, somewhat brighter squares on the edge of the clock

when I got to the small inner dial before the last bomb puzzle, so I had to read the walk..

So...would it be safe to say that this thing is technically quite literally a time bomb? *ducks to avoid objects thrown at him*

That was an easy one, beat it on my own. The bomb was tricky, but I figured it out.

See the darkened part of the circle? Draw a line in your head straight that way from it to the next dot. do this for all of them and the lines should form four letters. Mine were

CEOH,

but they might be different each time for all I know.

Well, this was one of those puzzles where a few of the clues made sense only to the person who created them. Especially the tiny dial clue and the bomb clue at the end. Who would really think to do what you needed to do to solve the puzzle? Of course it seems simple once you read the spoilers, but it seems too many people were getting stuck and needed clues. That tends to get a bit frustrating.

Dismantlement just cannot let you down... Another great installment!
As for the last (bomb) puzzle, I just don't know how the solution struck me, but sure enough I wouldn't have dared to bet on it being the right solution when I turned the dial :) I guess the idea that finally helped was that

once you zoom in on the final puzzle you cannot zoom out, so the solution is probably not about the front, or any other sides of the watch.

oh my gosh! i am getting so frustrated. either my game is glitched or the walkthroughs are skipping a step. i'm stuck at

I have the combination lock looking thing and everything i try it doesn't unlock, im not seeing those stupid lines above the 12 and below the 6 either

@Shu - the problem has been fixed - try it again.

Both walkthroughs have the same incorrect/missing step..

Actual Dial Solution

The cover for the dial gives the combination for it. The dial needs to point to each direction in the correct order, and the arrows tell which direction the dial is turning for each step. If correct, the bottom will pop out and the clock face can be removed. The hands do not need to be reset to 6:00 like the others said.

1-Clockwise to Right 2-Counterclockwise to Left 3-Clockwise to Down

I just want to suggest adding the "escape" tag to this, just because all the other Dismantlements have it.

@whitehelm I've seen vids of the version the walkthroughs describe, but I got the version you did. I guess they changed that dial puzzle for some reason? Thanks for posting your solution, though, I was about to lose my mind!
