Weekday Escape

GrinnypLet's face it, there are a lot of things coming up in people's schedules right now, various holidays and things that are taking up a lot of time. However, there's always time for a room escape, even if it's one of the mini variety, so how about the latest from the King of mini room escapes, Hottategoya? Can you spare five minutes for Escape from the Room with Three Keys 7?

Escape from the Room with Three Keys 7Escape from the Room with Three Keys 7 is the usual minimal three puzzles, three keys, and out escape that we've come to expect from Hottategoya. The room is sparse and minimal, the puzzles are fun and amusing, the navigation is pretty easy as is the inventory control, and the whole thing can be fit into whatever time can be spared from a too busy schedule. A little intuition, a little logic, and soon you'll be out of the room.

The presence of a second door that doesn't open and doesn't lead anywhere is a bit of a downer, leading to the expectation of more, but otherwise Escape from the Room with Three Keys 7 is a satisfying little room escape, something that can take your mind off of whatever is bothering you this week, and giving your brain a nice break.

Escape from the Room with Three Keys 7 Walkthrough

General Information

  • There is only one ending to the game.

  • No, that second door doesn't lead anywhere, ignore it.

  • This walkthrough will contain directions for the colorblind.

  • Good luck!

Exploration

  • You begin facing a bed on the left and a hallway to the right, leading to a door.

  • Click on the hallway for a close up.

  • You are now in the narrow hall. There is a wooden door ahead of you, and another door to the left. Ignore the door to the left.

  • Click on the wooden door for a close up.

  • There are the three keyholes. Note that they are labeled I, II, and III, and that the Roman numerals are in color, I is blue, II is red, and III is green.

  • Back up twice.

  • Notice that there are some symbols on the headboard of the bed. Click on the headboard for a close up.

  • On the headboard are the zodiac symbols for Leo and Virgo. Back up.

  • Turn right.

  • On this wall are two pictures. The picture on the left looks a bit like a stylized lightning bolt. The picture on the right appears to be on rails, and has more zodiac symbols.

  • Click on the picture on the right for a close up.

  • Yep, those are the zodiac symbols for Sagittarius and cancer. Back up.

  • Click on the picture on the left for a close up.

  • If you hover your cursor around the outside of the picture, you will notice arrows appearing on the sides, top, and bottom of the frame. Click on one of the arrows and the picture moves in that direction.

  • Move the picture to the left and you will see that a circle (upper right corner) and a hexagon (lower right corner) are revealed.

  • Move the picture to the right twice and you will find a triangle (upper left corner) and an X (lower left corner).

  • Back up and turn right.

  • You are now facing a wooden desk. On the left is a book on top of the desk, a drawer below, and what looks like a safe below the drawer. On the right is a wooden box sitting atop the desk.

  • Click on the book twice for a close up.

  • Once the book is in extreme close up, click again to move it.

  • When the book moves you find two more zodiac symbols, Scorpio and Leo.

  • Back up once and click on the drawer to open it.

  • Inside is a piece of paper, take it.

  • Use the "about item" button to examine the note. Numbers and lots of symbols.

  • Once the paper is in your inventory, note the zodiac symbols in the drawer, cancer and Scorpio.

  • Back up once and click on the safe below for a close up.

  • Click again on the safe and you can see the lock, it involves six zodiac symbols.

  • Back up three times to the long view.

  • Now click on that box on the right side of the desk for a close up.

  • There are three buttons on the box, I, II, and III.

  • Back up and turn right.

  • You are now facing a wall with one picture. You can see part of the bed in this view as well.

  • Click on the picture for a close up.

  • The picture is of colored squares, with an arrow going from left to right. The squares are green, red, blue, green, red, and green.

  • Back up and turn right.

  • Time to solve three puzzles!

The Roman Numeral Box

  • Turn right (or left) twice to face the desk.

  • Click on the box on the right side of the desk for a close up.

  • The buttons are covered in Roman numerals. Where have we seen them before?

    1. The locks on the door were labeled with colored Roman numerals.

    2. There is a second clue for this puzzle in the picture with the colored blocks. The colors of the blocks are also the colors of the Roman numerals on the door locks.

    3. Using the picture with the colors as a guide, the pattern is green, red, blue, green, red, and green.

    4. I is blue, II is red, and III is green.

    5. Therefore the pattern is: III, II, I, III, II, III.

  • Click on the buttons in the correct order and you will hear a click.

  • Click on the top of the box to open it. Inside is a key, take it (Key II).

  • Once you have the key note the symbols for Libra and Sagittarius.

  • Back up twice.

The Moving Picture Puzzle

  • Turn left to face the wall with the two pictures.

  • Click on the picture on the left, the one with the lightning bolt, for a close up.

  • That symbol, and the other ones hidden beneath it, look very familiar.

    1. Remember the note we got from the drawer?

    2. The symbols on that note match the ones on and beneath the picture.

    3. The symbols are directions to moving the picture.

    4. You want to move the picture so that the symbols in the note are showing, starting with the line labeled 1.

    5. 1 shows a circle, a hexagon, and the lightning bolt.

    6. If you move the picture to the left, you will see the circle and the hexagon on the right edge, and the lightning bolt on the picture.

    7. 2 shows a circle, an X, a hexagon, and the lightning bolt.

    8. If you move the picture up, you will see all of those symbols.

    9. 3 shows a circle, a hexagon, and the lightning bolt.

    10. Move the picture down so that only those symbols are showing.

    11. 4 shows a triangle, a circle, a hexagon, and a lightning bolt.

    12. Move the picture down so that those symbols are exposed.

    13. 5 shows a triangle, a circle, and the lightning bolt.

    14. Move the picture to the right so that those symbols are showing.

    15. 6 just shows the lightning bolt.

    16. Move the picture up to cover the other symbols so that only the lightning bolt is showing.

    17. 7 is showing the triangle, the X, and the lightning bolt.

    18. Move the picture to the right to show those symbols.

    19. 8 just shows the lightning bolt.

    20. Move the picture to the left to cover all symbols except the lightning bolt.

    21. That makes the sequence of moves: left, up, down, down, right, up, right, left.

  • If you move the picture in the correct sequence, you will hear a whirring sound.

  • Back up and you will see that the picture on the right has moved up on the rails.

  • Click on the open space for a close up, then click again to take the key (Key I).

  • Back up.

The Safe and Getting Out

  • Well, we've found two keys, so the third must be in the safe.

  • Turn right to face the desk.

  • Click on the safe three times for a close up of the code key.

  • Note that it needs six zodiac symbols.

  • But we've seen more symbols than that in the room!

    1. The key is in the pairing of the symbols.

    2. We've seen Leo and Virgo, Scorpio and Leo, Cancer and Scorpio, Sagittarius and Cancer, and Libra and Sagittarius.

    3. Notice the repeats.

    4. For instance, Libra is to the left of Sagittarius in that pairing, and Sagittarius is to the left of Cancer in that pairing.

    5. Using that logic you can see the chain of six symbols: Libra, Sagittarius, Cancer, Scorpio, Leo, and Virgo.

  • Enter the symbols into the code lock, then press the OK button.

  • If you entered the symbols correctly you will hear a click. Back up.

  • Click on the safe door to open it and take the key (Key III).

  • Back up three times, then turn left (or right) twice to face the hall.

  • Click on the hall, then click on the door for a close up.

  • Place the three keys in the locks, Key I in lock I, etc.

  • Back up once and click on the door to escape.

  • Clear!

The review was longer than the game. :P

That was pretty quick. But it was strange to have a door that you couldn't access - that bird's eye view shot almost seems to dwell on the fact.

Short but good

How about a bitesize tag for short games like this ?

This one took me a ridiculously long time, because (warning! major spoilers)

I missed the clue on the door, which meant that I didn't get the last clue for the safe (I finally just brute-forced the first part of the safe combination) -- and while I found the vertical arrows on the picture, I missed the horizontal ones for a long time.

I feel kind of stupid, actually.

definitely a step up from the last 3 key escape

@David

Pick up the keyboard, bang it on your head - but never feel stupid :)

Swift escape
Should try a room with 99 keys !
I too felt a bit frustrated I couldn't get to the bathroom before leaving !

PS) Don't come to Paris, the weather is miserable !

Hottategoya does a nice job with these quick "breather" games, I have to say. I enjoy an extended, Robamimi-calibre escape as much as everyone else, but having these little ones to do during a break in class or whatnot is definitely a welcome change of pace.
