"Do you want to try and escape from this room?" That sign is what lures the protagonist of Escape from the Same Room 2 into taking the bait. Apparently they're hosting public room escapes now. I wish they'd host them in my hometown... but I digress.
It's not just one room, as it turns out. It's four interconnected rooms, all of which look alike at first glance: a little tea kettle on a round table, a green box on a square pedestal, a mysterious picture on the wall next to a button that doesn't do anything. They all have many subtle differences, though. Does that teakettle have a lightbulb in it? How come that one has a letter code box in it?
Obviously, you've got to solve puzzles that span all four rooms if you're to get out, with or without the usual Happy Coin.
Analysis: Tesshi-e is one developer that we can always count on to make decent escape games, even more so now that they've found a reliable translator. Escape from the Same Room 2 contains everything we like about our Tesshikins: photorealistic graphics, catchy music, and logical puzzles.
The only real weakness the game has is its tediousness, particularly compared to Tesshi-E's other games like Escape from Mr. K's Room 2. None of the doors stay unlocked; you'll have to unlock them every time you pass through them, although this may be a necessary evil to help the player from losing their bearings in the identical rooms (each door requires a different key). Also, you'll most likely need a pencil and paper, and probably a calculator to boot, to get everything solved.
But we can't stay mad at Tesshi-e for one flaw when everything else is so well executed. What are you still lounging around here for? That room won't escape itself!

WALKTHROUGH
1st room:
Green cabinet:
There's a cup inside. Cool, might come in handy.
Odd backdrop...Red on one side, white on the other?
Anything on top? No...the sides? Aha!
52? Hm.
Kettle:
I'll just take a peek inside. Hey, cool, a yellow bulb!
Say, what's that under the lid?
A spade key!
Wall Panel:
Hm, the button doesn't work..oh well, maybe later.
Exiting:
The spade key seems to work on the door by the green cabinet.
2nd room:
Green cabinet:
Hmm, a letter puzzle. No clues on that yet, better save it for later.
Another odd backdrop...white, then blue. Maybe the backdrops are a clue for something?
Anything on the side of this one? ...Yep.
256. Goodie, more numbers...no letters yet.
Kettle:
Hey, there's a key in there! I'll just reach in and
YEOWCH!!! WOW that water's hot!
Good thing I got that cup to pour it into! Now I can get the circle key!
Wall Panel:
Nope, this one's not doing anything either. Okay, time to go.
Exiting:
Hmm, the circle key doesn't work on the other door here...maybe the other one in the last room?
1st room:
Exiting:
Yep, just as I thought!
3rd room:
Green cabinet:
Hmm, in front of a blue/yellow backdrop, now I've got a number puzzle. 4 digits, plus some symbols over the top of it. And on the side...
...What th-- A division symbol? C'mon, everyone knows 52 doesn't divide into 256 evenly! I must still be missing something.
Kettle:
What's in here...a slip of paper with a set of letter patterns. Sweet, just what I need for the 2nd room! Let's see if I can figure out the missing ones...
First one looks familiar....oh!
It's the first letter of the months of the year! Which makes the missing letter...
M, for May!
As for the second...something odd about these letters...
Oh, I see. They're symmetrical on their left and right sides. So what letter's like that between M and T?
Well, that'd be O. 2 down, 1 to go.
This last line's a piece of cake.
Anyone could see it's the days of the week, right?
Guess whoever made this room decided to take Thursday off, which gives me T.
Okay, solves that, but first I should check around here a little more.
Wall panel:
Wow, this one actually works! But...what IS this thing?
Well, whatever it is, it's missing a lever. Dang.
Exiting:
Well, time to go back to room 2!
1st room:
Exiting:
Man, whoever designed these doors to lock back so quick was a few fries short of a combo meal...
2nd room:
Green cabinet:
Okay, time to solve that letter puzzle!
M O T...presto!
Hey, this looks like the switch for the thing in Room 3!
Exiting:
Time to head back!
1st room:
Exiting:
Man, this place could use some serious redecorating...a guy could get lost in this little space!
3rd room:
Wall panel:
Yep, that was the missing part alright! Wonder what the different positions mean...
Maybe this is for the other wall panels? Let's see what it does in the 2nd position.
Exiting:
I'd better go check the other 2 rooms.
1st room:
Wall panel:
Bingo! Now I've got a red bulb!
Exiting:
Let's see which position works on the 2nd room.
3rd room:
Wall panel:
Maybe the 4th position will work?
Exiting:
I hope so...getting a little tired of going back and forth here.
1st room:
Exiting:
Nice wallpaper, at least...
2nd room:
Wall panel:
Whew! Thank goodness that was it, I'd hate to have to go back again...oh hey! A club key! Now I can get into the last room!
Exiting:
But not from here...guess this works on the door from the 3rd room.
1st room:
Exiting:
Man, it's amazing this water's still hot. Better not spill any on myself, that hurt earlier!
3rd room:
Wall panel:
Well, knowing how this has gone so far, there'll be a panel in the next room, and the 3rd switch position, right under the Star of David, will get that one working.
Exiting:
Yep, the club key works here!
4th room:
Green cabinet:
Huh. No backdrop this time..instead, I've got something with 4 slots in it.
Hey, I think the bulbs will fit in here. Guess I'd better find 2 more. Let's see if there's anything on the side of this one...
295? 52 doesn't divide into that either, and neither does 256. Weird.
Kettle:
Cool, another bulb! And this one's purple!
Wall panel:
Yep, I was right earlier. What's on this paper?
Hm, those same 4 symbols from earlier, overlayed on a layout of this building.
Say, the switch in the 3rd room had the Star of David over the position of this room's setting, didn't it? Guess that'd make the upper-left room on this layout the one I'm in right now, and the one with the loopy mark the one I started in. I'd better make a note of that, might come in handy later.
Oh hey, there's another key in here too. Great, now I can go through all the doors!
Exiting:
Sure enough, this lets me back into the 2nd room...but I need to solve that number puzzle back in the 3rd one first!
3rd room:
Green cabinet:
Okay, I've got to get a 4-digit number, and all I've got to work with is a 256, a 295, a 52, and a division symbol...
Well, dividing a 3
digit number in any way won't get me a 4-digit one...
...But dividing a 6-digit number will! Maybe if I put the 2 big ones side-by-side...
256295 won't work, but 295256 should. Do some quick division...
295256 divided by 52 is 5678. Let's go with that.
Bingo! And now I've got a blue bulb!
Exiting:
That's 4 bulbs, so now I should be able to solve that puzzle in the 4th room!
4th room:
Green cabinet:
Okay, now I've got 4 bulbs...but what order to put them in?
Maybe it had something to do with those backdrops? They seemed to line up nicely. Red/White, White/Blue, Blue/Yellow...maybe that's the order?
Except I don't have a white bulb. Just a yellow, a red, a blue, and a purple...
Hey, hold on. Maybe I can wash the paint off the purple one?
Good thing I held onto that glass of hot water! Ought to singe the paint right off!
Okay, now I've got what I need! Now I just pop the bulb's in in order...hit the power switch...
BIngo! Now I've got a heart key, so now I can get out!
Exiting:
Better switch off the power to the wall panels before I go though.
3rd room:
Wall panel:
Huh? What was that that flashed on the panel?
Maybe if I hold the button down for a second...
One? Hmm.
Exiting:
Wonder if the other rooms have anything like that now?
4th room:
Wall panel:
Yep. This one says Seven.
Exiting:
Well, may as well use this triangle key at least once, right?
2nd room:
Wall panel:
Five...
Exiting:
Back to the first room.
1st room:
Wall panel:
Two. 4 numbers...maybe it has something to do with the number puzzle?
***SAVE***
Exiting:
Hmmm....ah, screw it. I'm tired of this place. Adios!
(NORMAL END)
***RELOAD***
Exiting:
Hmmm....this has got my curiosity peaked.
3rd room:
Green panel:
Okay, I found a number in each room...each room is marked by a symbol on that chart, and those symbols are in a specific order over the number puzzle.
Maybe if I put the numbers in in that order...
Let's see, that'd make the new combination...what?
7512?
Exiting:
Oh, SWEET! A Happy Coin!!
1st room:
Exiting:
At last, I am free of this monotonous, dreary apartment!
(HAPPY COIN END!)

Escape from the Same Room 2 - WALKTHROUGH
(Sorry it's a bit sketchy, but the maze made me dizzy!)
**********************************************
NOTE: I've numbered the rooms according to the order in which you enter them... not how they'd appear on the map.
***********************************************
In First Room -
1. You start by facing a door with a green box next to it.
Go to the green box and get...
A heat resistant cup.
Use this cup later to...
Take hot water out of tea pot in other room.
Also note the information the box provides...
Inside the box you see...
Red on left/White on right.
On the left side of the box you see...
52
2. Next, turn right to face a table with a silver Teapot on it.
From this you can get two things...
Yellow Light Bulb
Spade Key (inside lid)
3. Turn right once more to face a door with a Heart Picture.
Pushing the button does nothing (at the moment).
Notice that this door is slightly different than the others...
It appears to have a bright light on the other side
4. Face the door next to the Green Box again.
Notice that this door is directly opposite of the heart picture.
Use the spade key to open this door and enter the Second Room.
Return to this First Room after you've found....
The circle key.
-----------------------------
In Second Room -
5. After entering, you'll be facing the table with a silver Teapot.
Go to it to find...
A key submerged in hot water.
Use the heat resistant cup to get the Circle Key
6. Next, turn left to face another door and another Green Box.
Explore the green box to get these clues...
White on left/Blue on right (inside box)
256 (on left side)
There is also a puzzle in this green box...
A three-letter code.
Come back later when you get...
a slip of paper found in tea pot of the third room.
Hint:
If the last line is days of the week....
Then the first line is the months and the middle line is a slightly altered alphabet.
Filling in the missing information you get:
M - O - T.
7. If you turn twice, you'll notice this room also has a Heart Picture on a wall with no door. (The button doesn't work right now).
Remember that the door you came in through is directly opposite of the Teapot.
Turn back to that door (it has no decor on its walls).
Go back to the First Room using the Spade Key again.
From the First Room, go on to the Third Room by...
... using the Circle Key on the door to the right (undecorated wall) .
------------------------------------------
In the Third Room -
8. Upon entering the third room with the Circle Key...
You face another doorless wall with another Heart Picture.
This heart picture slides down to reveal a new puzzle.
But the puzzle is missing a part. You'll need to get it from...
Solving the 3-letter code in the Second Room.
9. Turn left to face another Tea Pot. Inside is a clue...
This clue tells you how to solve the 3-letter code in the Second Room.
Hint:
months, alphabet, days.
.
Solution:
M - O - T
10. Turn again until you face another Green Box.
You'll get these clues from the box...
Blue on left/Yellow on right (inside)
A division sign (on left side).
6-point Star.... Yin/Yang..... Moon....Shield Knot (double infinity)
There is also another puzzle in this box...
A five digit code.
Clues to this code is found on the sides of four Green Boxes and on a slip of paper found behind one of the Heart Pictures. Come back when you have it.
Hint:
Draw a map of each room's relation to the other.
Each room has a symbol; figure out the symbols based on the map.
Use the information from each room's green box.
Put them in the order shown to get the solution.
Solution:
5678
(295256 divided by 52 equals 5678)
11.
Use the Circle Key to go back into the First Room.
Then use the Spade Key to go back into the Second Room
--------------------------------
In the Second Room (again) -
12. Now you should have enough information to solve the puzzle for this room's box....
Use the information from the Tea Pot in the third room, a slip of paper with three lines of letters on it. The boxes indicate the missing information (and the needed code).
Hint:
months, alphabet, days.
.
Solution:
M - O - T
Once you solve the code in this room's box, you'll have what you need to solve the puzzle behind the heart picture in the Third Room.
Return to the Third Room...by using the Spade Key to get to the First Room, then turn left and use the Circle Key.
-----------------------------------
In the Third Room (again and again) -
You'll be exiting and re-entering this room a few times as you solve the puzzle behind the Heart Picture. It gets a bit convoluted here....
13. Place the part on the slider puzzle.
Hmmm... in the off position, this room's Heart Picture opens, but the pictures in the other two rooms I've visited do not open.
What happens if I move this slider to the first setting after "off"?
14. Back to the First Room....
The Heart Picture in the First Room opens when the slider is on the First position!
Well then...Go back to the First Room, using the Circle Key.
Inside that picture you find...A red light bulb.
15. Back to the Third Room to make an adjustment....
Using the Circle Key, return to the Third Room to move the slider once more...
What will happen if the slider is on the last setting?
16. Run back to the Second Room briefly...
... by using the Circle Key to reach the First Room, then use the Spade Key to reach the Second Room.
Open the Heart Picture in the Second Room to get a Clover Key.
17. And then another trip to the Third Room for a final adjustment...
Before going on to the Fourth Room, go back through the First Room, to the Second Room to adjust the slider puzzle once more.
It's a easy to guess that the middle position on the slider (the one marked by the six-point star) will open the final room's picture.
After setting the slider's position to the Six-Point Star, back up and turn right...
18. Finally, use the Clover Key to enter the Fourth Room.
--------------------------
In the Fourth Room -
19. When you first enter, you'll be facing a doorless wall with another Heart Picture.
Open this room's Heart Picture to get another clue...
A slip of paper with the Rooms' Logos on it
Here's where drawing a map would help greatly.
From the clue on the slider puzzle, this room's "logo" is a Six-Point Star.
That means that the symbol for the adjoining rooms are represented in the squares on this paper.
Fourth Room = Six Point Star
Third Room = Moon
Second Room = Yin/Yang
First Room = Shield Knot (or double infinity symbol)
On your map, draw the symbols representing each room; you'll need that to solve Room Three's Green Box puzzle.
Before we go back to the Third Room, we need to gather a few more clues.
Turn left again to face this room's Green Box.
Inside you see: a place to set the light bulbs.
But more importantly at this moment, look at the left side of this green box to get another number: 295
Now we have all the clues we need to solve the 4-digit code in the Third Room's Green Box.
Use the Clover Key and return to the Third Room.
------------------------------------------
In the Third Room (final puzzle) -
20. Back in the Third Room, go to the Green Box....
If you used a map, you know which logo represents which room.
You also know which numbers you found where.
But in case you don't...
First Room - SHIELD KNOT (double-infinity) - 52
Second Room - YIN/YANG - 256
Third Room - MOON - division sign
Fourth Room - STAR - 295
If that doesn't help then use this...
5678
(295256 divided 52)
Correctly entering the code gets the Blue Bulb.
Now you're ready to return to the Fourth Room....
----------------------------------------------
Last Steps from Final Puzzle to the Exit -
21. As you enter the Fourth Room (using the Clover key from the third room), turn left to face the Tea Pot.
Get the purple light bulb from the Tea Pot.
Turn again to face the Fourth room's Green Box.
Open it: "Time to set the light bulbs!"
22. Use the clues gathered from the other room's Green Boxes to know what order to place the bulbs:
Red before White. Blue before Yellow. White before Blue.
The problem is, one of the bulbs is the wrong color.
What is still in your inventory that might help?
Put the purple bulb in the hot water cup to turn it White.
Now you can set the bulbs, flip on the switch, and get the Heart Key.
Here's the correct color order:
Red - White- Blue - Yellow
23. With the Heart Key, you can now Exit through the First Room
(Go through the door by the Heart Picture, the one whose window is lit up).
OR.....
You can try to find the Happy Coin.
---------------------------------------
The Second Ending -
Do everything above but before you exit using the Heart Key, visit each room's Heart Picture.
As you press the button for each Heart Picture, words flash in red across the canvas.
Each room has a number.
Note the number for each room.
Room 1 - SHIELD KNOT/DOUBLE-INFINITY - two
Room 2 - YIN&YANG - five
Room 3 - MOON - one
Room 4- STAR - seven
Go back to the Third Room's Green Box.
Enter the new 4-digit code:
7512
Get the Happy Coin.
Head back to the First Room and Exit.
*The End*
****************************************************
Just a Tiny Hint (in case you don't want to use the walkthrough):
Divide a piece of paper into four squares and as you leave and enter each room, note where each item is located, which doors use which keys and how each room is connected to the others.
Doing that one thing will help greatly in solving puzzles.
