JessFree FallingThis just in! Gotmail, creator of numerous esteemed escape games, has just released Free Falling for our escaping pleasure. I haven't yet played through the entire game, but so far it conforms to the usual high Gotmail standard: beautiful, lifelike graphics, ingenious puzzles, and....a pachinko machine? Interesting.

Unfortunately, at this point in time an English version is not available, so you may need to rely on your wits even more than usual. Still, I have no doubt that the crafty JIG community will have blazed through the game by the time I manage to figure out how to open the first locked drawer.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Free Falling Walkthrough:
OK, before you can be trapped in the room, you have to go into the room. Click on the door to open it and click again to enter the room. NOW you're trapped. Click a third time to begin the actual game. (I don't think any of that needs a spoiler tag.) To begin, you should be facing the wall with — left to right — a table loaded with rocks, a plant, and a desk.

  1. Click on the plant. Click to collect the peapod hanging on the left. Click the arrow to go back.

  2. Click on the desk. Click on the chair. When it moves aside, click on the little whitish dot on the floor under the desk. As you get closer, you see it is a ball of some sort. Click it to pick it up. Note the keyhole in the side panel under the desk; remember that for later. Click the arrows twice to back out.

  3. Click the right arrow. Click the picture. When it moves, you can see something odd about it... but the only thing to do is click it again to collect it.

If you look at it, it's really pretty boring, so you might as well hang it back on the wall. What the--? Hey, there's a mirror behind it!

    Click back.

  4. Click the door. It's locked, of course, but there is a key in the keyhole. Click to collect it. Click back.

  5. Click left and click to return to the desk. Click on the drawers on the right. The second and third drawers are open, but empty; the bottom drawer won't open. The top drawer has a lock; use the key. Inside the drawer is a light bulb. Click to collect it, then click back.

  6. Click left. There's not much to do here -- you can't approach the plants in the window. The only thing you can do here is click on the swing-chair in the corner. Click it again, and you can see a ring on the front of the chair. Note for later. Click back twice.

  7. Click left. Is that a pachinko machine? Why yes it is! If only you had a pachinko ball. Oh wait, you do. Click the machine twice. Select your silvery ball and click on the little hole on the right of the machine. Aw, you lose.

  8. Hmm... Pachinko sure is fun. Wish you could play again.

Say... examine that peapod. Just as I thought! There's another silver ball inside.

Play pachinko again. Aww, Close but no cigar.... Click back twice.

  9. Click up. Hmm... One of those lights is out. I have a bulb... but no way to reach the fixture. You can try -- select the bulb then click the fixture. No dice. How will you ever get up there?

Click down and click right twice to turn around. Click the desk and then click to collect the chair. NOTE: The chair will not be collected unless you have tried to put the bulb into the fixture first.

  10. Click back and right twice to turn around. Click up to look at the fixture. Select the chair and click on the fixture. Much closer. Select the bulb and click the fixture again. Success! Click down twice.

  11. Click left. Did you rehang the picture before? If not, do it now to reveal... a mirror! Click left again and notice the spot of reflected light behind the rock on the far left. Click the rock table. There's a shadow on the back of the rock. Click it. Something is sticking out of the rock. Click it -- Hey! Another pachinko ball! And a hook of some sort on the back of the rock. Hmmm... Remember that... and click back twice.

  12. Let's play pachinko again. Click left twice, click the machine twice, select the ball and drop it into the hole. You win! Click back once and notice something in the slot at the bottom of the machine. Click it to get another key. Click back.

  13. Remember that mysterious keyhole under the desk? Click left twice to face the desk, click the desk, then click the floor under it. Select the key and use it on the keyhole. Open the compartment. Voila! A shiny cable of some sort. Click to collect it, then click back twice.

  14. Click the rock table, then click the big rock twice. Select the cable and click the hook sticking out of the rock. [Note, I am not sure if that step is strictly necessary, but it's how I did it.] Double-click the cable in your inventory; a diagram will come up showing the swing chair, the pulley and the rock.

Click either hook in the diagram, then the pulley (and notice a line follows your cursor), then the other hook. The diagram should change to show the swing chair moving.

Close the diagram and note the cable stretched from the rock through the pulley to the swing chair.

  15. Click out and click to the swing chair. Click on the swing chair and the rock gets lifted, revealing a key. Collect it, click back until you are standing int he center of the room again. Click right or left until you are facing the door. Click it, select the key and click the keyhole, and...

Ta-da! You're out!

Yah, completed it in about 5 minutes. Not terribly difficult, but there is very little pixel hunting which was nice.

Reply

Whoa! I did it, without hints or help! Holy smokes, that may be the first time. Give me a few minutes, I'll try to come up with a walkthrough.

Reply

5 minutes? you're a wiz, guest!

My japanese is a little lusty... i mean rusty... but so far I have:

put the picture frame back to reveal a mirror, put the two balls in the wooden game on the wall, put the light bulb in the missing slot. I have nothing left in my inventory that i can use right now.

What is left, where is the pixel-hunt? I've tried just about everywhere.

Reply

Ha! nevermind (for now)

the ceiling light casts shadows on things on the wall opposite, you might just find something there!

Reply

I solved it, using the hint from cboater. But what was all that about

the mirror

? It did nothing.

Reply

I've clicked the link but so far (ten mins on) am getting nothing but a popup with black background and a big white stripe across the middle... definitely no game! What am I doing wrong?

Where is the light bulb?

Reply

Where'd you find the light bulb!?

Reply

How do you put the bulb into the light?

Light bulb:

Go over to the door you came in from, then click on the lock. You'll get a key. Now go over to the desk and use the key on the top drawer.

Reply

You guys were the ones who finished the algebra final in 15 minutes and wrecked the curve, weren't you?

Where's the light bulb?

Found

Pachinko balls, pea pod, and the picture

Now what?

Reply

I found the lightbulb... but where do I put it?

Reply

Feeling stupid here. Can't find the lightbulb.

ohhhh you can pick up the chair! That's all I needed to finish!

wow! it really isn't that hard, even though I did have some troubles.

Reply

No way first guy finished in 5 minutes...

I'm calling shenanigans...

Reply

Very clever one. As usual with these games my complaints are with the interface (especially the second to last puzzle)

The one with the cable/pulley that is. I had to look up what the heck I was doing wrong after having found the diagram only to find you don't click on the items in the game.

Reply

Wow, I have to kind of agree with everyone here. this is the first time in a long time I was able to finish a Gotmail room without help, especially that quickly!

I don't think I would have even tried except the walkthrough went up way quick which got me thinking, 'Okay, I know the gamers at JIG are good, but that was ridiculously fast.'

Yay! I get some sense of accomplishment warm and fuzzies now.

2 escapes in one day?!
...productivity...failing...

Reply

I have the

cable but clicking on either hook doesn't do anything. What am I missing here?

Reply

Okay, if you are stuck with the cable here's what you have to do:

You must look up at the pulley before you can move on

Reply

that was a very easy game i can see how the first guy beat it so quick.

Reply

Nice little game. There's only one question left after having beaten it:

how can two, totally different kinds of keys fit into the same keyhole (of the entrance door)??? :D

Reply
twosixtyseven July 9, 2008 7:03 PM

now THIS is how i like jayisgames...

4 room escape/point and click adventures in like 10 days!

Reply

Couldn't agree more :D

(By the way... Anyone any idea whence this one's title "Free Falling"? Nothing like that in the game.)

Reply
twosixtyseven July 9, 2008 8:09 PM

err... now that i'm done with this game, i'm a bit disappointed. in my opinion, this was gotmail's weakest game, by far. it almost seems like a demo or mini-game in comparison to the other works. it felt unfinished.

like the fact that there were

6 shelves in the desk, 2 had nothing inside, and 3 you just plain could not open (with no explanation). the 8 shelves that did nothing on the pachinko machine. practically one entire SIDE of the room was useless (the windowed side). the entire shelving unit with many curious looking rocks and stuff to the left of the pachinko machine: useless.

also the game felt bizarre in some instances. like the

rock that looked like it had at the very least something ELSE to it, besides the fact that all it has is a hook on the back. and did the clickable area to go to the door area HAVE to be so small? i missed it the first few times i tried to go there! then there's the mirror that you had to take off, then put back on (weird enough on it's own), only to have the picture fall BEHIND the book shelf (also useless, by the way).

i sat and looked for a way to look under this bookshelf, around it, on the side, everything. after i decided this was useless, for a moment i thought that the fact that i had no reflection in the mirror was in itself a puzzle. TRUE, these things are because of my own stupidity (haha) but seriously, did it have to be so weird? they could have just had you move the picture and have the picture slide out onto the shelf, where if you clicked on it, nothing would happen. this would at least assure me that i wasn't crazy, and the picture really IS useless.

does anyone else see what i mean? ah, well. i still had fun trying to figure it out, it's still a room escape game, which to me is pretty difficult to make unenjoyable. i guess it just came as a surprise that gotmail of all developers would release this. they're my favorite developers next to neutral!

this is the largest rant i've ever done about a game, i apologize.

The only thing I can think of that could connect to the title, is the balls falling down in the panchiko machine.

Reply
Kirkpad July 9, 2008 8:44 PM

Wow Jess, you seem to be the Queen of escape games these days.

Reply
frigginacky July 9, 2008 9:01 PM

Wow! I think that's the first room I've escaped without a single hint, and I don't even know any Japanese!

Reply
OrigamiMarie July 9, 2008 10:46 PM

The thing I can think of relating the game title to the game is the

pulley and cable setup, especially with lifting up that huge rock and having it just swinging there at the end.

Reply

Not that point-and-click games generally make a whole lot of sense, but this one seemed strained even by the generous rules of P&C logic.

The swinging chair is on the other side of the room--so how did I manage to pick up the key and keep the swinging chair in position at the same time? Even if I could somehow manage to push the chair with the tip of my toe and then stretch over to reach the key, this raises another question: if I can generate enough leverage with the tip of my toe to lift the rock completely, how come I can't just tip the rock over without going through the whole pulley setup?

Reply

OrigamiMarie,
but it's not free falling...

But at least you tried :D

Reply

One of the worst gotmail games,it's good but even the best have to take a dump and have it be known as an attempt at work. This is the Gotmail Dump.

Reply
Cale Gibbard July 10, 2008 6:23 AM

What's free falling? The パチンコ玉 (Pachinko ball) of course!... Though it's more like falling while getting bumped around by little pegs, but still.

Nice game!! I always like those Gotmail games.
But: When I finished it, there was a link to the decotoku site, and at that site there was also something about a sheep. an other game??

Cool, love the gotmail team. I needed a little help from your hints, but probably the first time I finished one without reading the walkthrough! Yay me!!!

Fun. Not too much to do here, and everything seemed fairly intuitive.

One small part that I was temporarily stuck on:

needing to double click the rope to set it up, rather than using the rope and clicking on the pulley or eyelets.

This is the first GotMail room escape that I managed to complete without ANY help. Usually there's one or two points I get stuck on and eventually give up and find the answer in comments or the walk through.

hook the rock and the cable but it keeps gibbering at me in japanese which i dont speak so it didnt makes sense.

chatterbox, in response to you frustration:

check my spoiler in the post above you.

Or, if you want me to be more specific:

To set up the rope, you double click it. Normally, this would give you a detailed look at the item, but with the rope it gives you a diagram of the two eyelets and the pulley.

You may be required to find the three points in question first. I struggled like you, but figured it out in the end.

Reply

I'm not sure I understand why you would

click on the chair and then click on the FIXTURE! You can't put the chair on the fixture! I clicked all over the place trying to ***LOGICALLY*** place the chair on the floor before finally resorting to the walkthrough. Sigh

Reply

I think I'd have liked this more if it wasn't GotMail. I expect a lot better from those guys, they make the best escape games I've played. Maybe an bad day at the office? Still I didn't not like it, just was a little disappointed.

Reply

Good game from Gotmail...can't wait for the English version as the script is usually fun to read

Reply

This is a nice game, but I am stuck on the peapod. According to the hints, it should contain a useful ball. How do I reach it? I have tried clicking on the peapod, but nothing happens. I have tried marking it and then pointing at the hole, but alas! Where do I go wrong?

Reply
peggybails July 15, 2008 4:26 PM

absolutely the first escape i've ever done without a walkthrough!
good for gotmail!

Reply

Having some issues

connecting the "rope" (that's the silver coiled thing, right?) to the two hook/eyelets/whatevers.

I've read all the other spoiler tags, used every walkthrough I can find, and nothing. I keep clicking

both of the hooks and then trying to click the rope, and god knows what else. But nothing makes the "diagram" come up.

I'm confused out of my mind.

Reply

I read the spoilers and am still stuck, as usual with all of these gotmail games.

I have the rope and have double-clicked on it until my mouse buttons are broken, and no diagram has ever come up.

Now what?

Reply

Anyone know when the English version is coming? Can't wait! (Been so incredibly long since an English point n' click from Gotmail).

Reply

Tch - what was the use of the picture and the mirror!!!!! had high expectations after playing the other games from gotmail - disappointed - but graphics and the sound as usual fantastic!

I WANTED to get into this game, but the annoying "rat-tat-tat-tat-tat" sound and tedious WAIT while it typed out each redundant message...led me to give up...and I rarely give up on these Point-and-Clicks (well...I usually at LEAST look at a JIG Walkthrough first!)
