Ginger Joy

DoraIf an escape game by TomaTea is on your Christmas list, well, Feliz Navidad dear friend because Ginger Joy is here! With a gentle seasonal soundtrack and some tasteful festive decor, this is one room you might want to linger in for a while, especially if you've got a sweet tooth. Santa will understand, right? But when you are ready to get out, playing is simple. Just click around, and the tip of your cursor will glow when you can interact with something. Click the "i" icon that appears when you mouse over inventory items to view them up close. As you'd expect, there are piles of puzzles, and many of them need various codes to solve. If you see a message that says "I have no clue how to solve this!" it means you haven't seen the clue that corresponds to whatever you're looking at yet. Keep your eyes peeled and your mind sharp, because this Christmas is clever and sneaky!

If there's a better way to celebrate the holidays electronically than by indulging in some seasonal cheer by one of our favourite escape game developers, I can't think of it. TomaTea delivers a game that offers some particularly clever puzzles this time around, requiring you to look at things in different ways and really add up what you've seen, and the lovely visual style incorporates the clues you'll need to solve some puzzles in some very sneaky ways. Maybe a little too sneaky, depending on your point of view, as some clues are very very subtle or may not offer enough direction. If you're patient and perceptive, however, you'll ultimately prevail (gosh that's a lotta Ps), and Ginger Joy is every bit as fun and crafty as you expect a TomaTea to be. I'd say this game is all the present I need, but who am I kidding... I totally need a pony!

Some of the symbols are green or red.

Click on the clock.

You can move the clockhands.

Solving puzzles

First you let's solve BOX WITH RIGHT-LEFT BUTTONS

I wonder where we've seen a hint about right and left.

For example, there are two stars to the left and to the right of the gingerbread house.

Also, there's a sequence of stars somewhere in this room.

In the niche with Santa's sledge

RRLRLRL

Pick a GOLD KEY and a PIECE OF PICTURE

Open the cage with the GOLDEN KEY
Pick a SOLDIER

Take a CANDY CANE from the SOLDIER

He has three pushable buttons of different colors.

Now let's solve BOX WITH STARS AND SNOWFLAKES

Where have we seen these patterns?

On the Christmas tree

They glow in a particular sequence

Star-Snowflake-Ball. Press all the buttons on the box, following this order.

Pick a PRESENT and SMALL CANDY
By the way, we have all the PIECES OF PICTURE now. Let's complete the picture.

It's the gingerbread house.

Pick a PRESENT.

Look at the cups closely.

Their handles are numbers: 3982

Use the code on the BOX WITH NUMBERS, window view

Pick a PRESENT.
Let's look at the clock.

Now, where have we seen a hint about minutes and hours?

The picture under the clock

H and 20 are green, M and 15 are red.

20:15

Take a NOTE from the cuckoo's mouth. Click on its hat, take a LIGHTBULB.

Look at the NOTE. What could it be a hint for?

The SOLDIER's buttons are the same colors.

Press the notes from top to bottom

Open the BOX WITH KEYHOLE
Pick a PRESENT, GREEN CANDY
Look at PRESENTS.

They are all different shape. Have we seen it somewhere?

Shelves over the sofa

Put all four in place. The 'X' wooden thing in the middle looks different now. Also the houses lit up, showing four numbers: 5692.

Let's open the BOX WITH NUMBERS, gingerbread house view.

No, 5692 doesn't work.

Remember the wooden 'X' thing?

It's actually 56x92 = 5152

Pick RED CANDY
Now, the BOX WITH UP-DOWN-LEFT-RIGHT buttons.

Again, remember the 'X' thing above the sofa?

Count the sticks, sticking out on each side.

Up Right Right Up Down Left

Pick GINGERBREAD MAN.
Now we are ready to complete the Gingerbread House!

Look at the picture for hints.
ROUND CANDY

Stuck with a candy cane, lightbulb, and coloured music notes sheet. Seems I can solve the Left / Right button puzzle, but can't for the life of me find any clues for it.

POP - clue is on the santa picture

I was at that point - until your hint reminded me to check something I'd tried before!

Of course, I basically got stuck immediately after...

I have the paper with the notes on it, and the toy soldier, whose buttons appear to match the notes, but I've tried every combination I can think of, but haven't been able to get anything to work.

And no idea what the light bulb is for...

Also,

I brute-forced the clock, and only just now realised the actual clue is in the

"Christmas and New Year 2015" note.

Really lovely little escape game! The only thing I couldn't figure out is

the code for the triangle puzzle. I got that it had to do with the wooden X and the sticks coming out of it, I just didn't understand how to work out the code from that. I had to use Rhinoceros' walkthrough. Otherwise, the puzzles were just the right difficulty!

I was stuck for an hour because TomaTea doesn't know how to read sheet music.

Where's the

located? I looked everywhere and haven't seen it

I needed a start with the left-right puzzle, but figured it out without looking at the spoiler thanks to you guys.

I hadn't put the two pieces of the solution together in my mind.

Also, knowing that the musical puzzle

wasn't solved musically

was very helpful!

Once I placed the canisters, I spend half an hour trying to figure out

Why the 4 digit door code wasn't 5692. I finally realized

The arrow clue was also a multiplication symbol, and the code was 56 X 92 = 5152

Playing Christmas games at Easter time...lol

Since I haven't read anyone else with this problem, I'm assuming it's not a glitch within the game....but I am unable to take the soldiers head for the key.
I only get the 'zoomed in' image of the 3 colored buttons when I click on him...but there seems to be no way to take the key.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love the Tomatea games, but this is the 2nd one in a row, that I have been unable to complete. (had to check the walkthrough for the last one, and followed to the letter, but I couldn't get a simple L/R puzzle to work.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Lilymay, this reply may come too late but

you may need to re-interpret the order to push the buttons from the note paper with musical notations

if you don't think of it as you would read a musical sheet

but read from from top to bottom

to make that a little clearer

press the buttons based on their appearance from the top to the bottom of the sheet

solution:

green pink blue pink green green blue
