Hexagons are often seen in games. Perhaps there's something about six sides that is pleasing to the eye. Perhaps it's the fact that six times seven equals the ever popular 42. Or maybe it's just because six is the perfect number of sides to make things complicated in a game. Hexep is a hexagonal tile based maze puzzle by Daniel Cherbanich. Using just your mouse, start at a colored tile and pass over all the tiles to light them up. The catch is you can't cross your own path, so it's very easy to lock yourself into a corner. If you get trapped, simply click to reset the level. As you progress, the difficulty goes up by adding special tiles. Some you must cross onto twice, others are numbered and you have to hit them in order.
Hexep does a challenging puzzle with style. The glowing colors are nice to look at and there are different color schemes available in the options screen. I found myself wishing I could back up instead of starting over when I realized one tile too late that I'd gone the wrong way. There is a level editor available that the developer suggests using in Chrome, and indeed I could not get it to work in Firefox. The overall feel of the game is very sophisticated, which serves to make you feel that much smarter when you solve a level.
There are few regular polygons that can tessellate the 2d plane, and hexagon is one. That's my bet for why we see it often in games :)
@Diego... Nah, I think it's because those games are made by bees. Just like all games with triangles are made by Egyptians and the ones with squares are by Huey Lewis.
I can't get past level nine...

I am stuck on level 25. Two days later, still can't figure it out!
Can someone tell me how lvl 25 is possible?
There are two times to cross the whole sphere but just one doubble field.. That's impossible!
To be quite honest, I didn't make it as far as 25 myself! I've asked the rest of the staff to chime in if they made it that far.
