It's a Wonderful Internet

JohnBitswonderfulinternet.jpgIt's story time! Perfect for the impending holiday season, It's a Wonderful Internet is an interactive narrated storybook by nurun|antfarm. Take in some soothing music as you listen to a classic holiday tale (tongue-in-cheek style) about a geek whose life is a little too dependent on the Internet. Flip through the pages and interact with the scenery, and when the narration ends move your cursor around the pictures for some nice surprises.

George spends a little too much time playing video games on the Internet. His latest gaming session doesn't go quite so well, prompting him to scream out in anger "I wish the Internet had never been born!". And, well, he gets his wish. As George tries to go about his day he realizes just how integrated the World Wide Web has become in his daily life.

It's a Wonderful Internet is a charming holiday-themed storybook with a spry sense of humor. Kind of makes you remember why the Internet is a really good thing.

Cheers to Bigbosssnk for sending this one in!

Note: Although it seems very kid-friendly, there is an instance of some not-so-child-safe language in It's a Wonderful Internet.

Update: The interactive version of "It's a Wonderful Internet" is no longer available, so we're instead embedding a YouTube video of the experience, preserved for you.

As nice as the internet is, I think it will be the death of pop-up books. *nostalgic sigh*

I liked all the spoofs of "It's a Wonderful Life", and I loved the ending.

A very nice Al Gore impersonation. Teehee.

I've got to know who the voice of the narrator is! Is that Don LaFontaine?

Thank you for putting this up! I remember it from last year. =D

I loved this. So many things to explore!

great story..

it's proof that mankind is too "wired" and dependent on technology. it's has a fun ending, but lets not forget that the holidays themselves do not depend on the internet. go out and buy presents yourself. =P

happy holidays..

I must say that i found the story a bit vague - i dunno what life's like in the US, but i feel like a live a fairly updated life in Norway. I work in IT, i have a cell phone, i have a profile on myspace.

But:

* i love to shop my records in a indie record store.
* i love board games.
* i shop my meats in the store across the street.
* even if i met my girlfriend online, we connect personally - not by use of emoticons.

I liked the story, but found the moral a bit twosided. I like the net and the possibilities it gives us, but hates the evergrowing lack of personal interaction between people; not only the clerk in the grocery store, but friends and family too..

i agree with sixbillionsouls: go out and buy your gifts yourselves .. preferably the boxed sets from The Band, Curtis Mayfield, Motörhead or Townes Van Zandt.. :)

No, rain. Don LaFontaine's voice is very characteristic and even deeper. I'd know it if it was Don, trust me.

Just an FYI: Sadly, that website is now an Internet marketing blog (i.e. how to spam your website).
