Jumble
This evening my mother wanted to go to the store to buy a newspaper so she could kick back and relax while doing the Jumble, a scrambled word game that has been in publication since 1954. Instead of running off to the store, I ran upstairs and Googled a site that had Jumbles for mom to play. What I found was Jumble.com with a play-online section that features daily Jumbles, with a new one added every day. This version of the classic puzzler, Jumble, adds a timer, scoring, and even a hint feature if you really get stumped. Word puzzles are a good way to keep your mind sharp, and to give your fingers a break from all those button-mashing games.
I can't figure out how to play online!
Dee Land - You must have the latest Shockwave player installed. Use the "Get Shockwave" link in the left sidebar if you don't have it installed.
If you do, then just click on the image, and a window will pop-up, select the date you want to play, and click PLAY.
Then, click in a grey square and type a letter (the letter must actually appear in the jumbled version for it to be valid).
Hm: One year anniversary of this being on the site, and whaddaya know, it's the same puzzle as is in the screenshot...
Not able to play. The window pops up, but nothing is displayed. If i right click on the window, i have the option of restart, adjust volume, etc.
Hi Natalie - I just checked and the link is still working. Jumble is a Shockwave game, and so it requires the Shockwave plug-in. Use the "Get Shockwave" button in the left sidebar if you don't already have it installed.
The answers to the puzzle in the picture are
drama rodeo cement hinder ; tanned his hide
.
These puzzles are awfully addictive :-)
grr...i suck at stuff like this.
is it me, or did this link stop working???
The game is a Shockwave game, you'll need the Shockwave player installed. Use the link to get Shockwave in the sidebar.
The link on the image doesn't work for me either. Something flickers once, then it goes blank.
I can get to the puzzles through the jumble.com site though.
Is it because you do not have Javascript enabled?
Because I can't reproduce the problem on any of my computers.
I have it enabled.
In the blank window, I can right click and I get a menu with "restart", "adjust volume" and so on (like natalie said) but I can't see anything.
Well, thank you for reporting it. I will look into trying a few things to see if it's a browser issue. I'm guessing you're using IE?
Well, I've tried it successfully on Windows XP in IE now, too.
Did you read my comment above about it being a Shockwave game? You may need to install the Adobe Shockwave player (not Flash, Shockwave is different).
yeah, I have the latest shockwave. I even redownloaded it to test this, even though I'm sure I had the latest version anyway.
I am using IE, and I'm on Windows XP too.
Jay This link doesn't work for me. https://jayisgames.com/images/jumble.html
I get a white window that doesn't load anything.
Zeke - this is a Shockwave game, not Flash, so you'll need the Shockwave player installed. Use the Get Shockwave button in the left sidebar to download it.
If you're running an Intel Mac, you'll need to run your browser in Rosetta compatibility mode for Shockwave to function since there is still no universal binary of the Shockwave Player available for it.
I always liked these. .And this is the real Jumble, too.
But I can't get any puzzle selected other than the one for 01/01/2008
Those arrows do nothing
(Safari on a Mac)
I might try Firefox...
(yawn) I'm tired though...
Fun game, but is anyone aware that these are the exact same puzzles as the ones posted daily in the Tempo section of the Chicago Tribune? Because they are. Juuuuust saying.
