Kitchen in Summer

Warm, soft pastel colours. Detailed, cute, cartoony environments. Piles and piles of puzzles. Yep, it's gotta be a Yonashi escape game! In Kitchen in Summer, you're locked cozy but busy little kitchen, full of rattling pots and half-started mise en place, not to mention a fair amount of culinary implements scattered hither and thither. To play, just use the transparent bars that appear when you mouse over the left and right sides of the screen to move around the kitchen, and click on things to zoom in or interact with them. Don't forget to examine items you're carrying up close by clicking the little magnifying glass icon, because you never know if you'll be able to manipulate them into something new or reveal a clue. Kitchen in Summer is very heavy on locks with codes to be deciphered, and you'll spend a lot of your time first scouring the room for the clues you need to do so, then figuring out how to implement them. There's a mild whiff of "adventure game logic" going on, with some items not being able to accomplish tasks that they should, and cracking puzzle solutions can mean some convoluted thinking... though it's just as possible to over think a few of them, too. But while Kitchen in Summer still isn't the longest or most complicated escape game around, it's still extremely clever and creative, working with its setting and theme to deliver some satisfyingly smart puzzles you'll need to think your way through. Yonashi knows how to make games that are cute but no slouch in the difficulty department, either, making Kitchen in Summer a very welcome escape for your time.

I liked this one! I would love to know what the dialogue at the end is about, though - any Japanese speakers around?

Was there supposed to be a hint for the avocados? I just placed them at random and got it right.

@Cyberjar88

There is a scratch card on the fridge and you can use the coin from the pocket of the apron to scratch it.

Welp, I'm stuck. I need one ingredient. I have the

knife and half-empty bottle of soy sauce

, which I'm sure must be the clue for the

blue door

, but I can't seem to activate it in any way other than to click on the center.

rainmist:

The ingredient you're missing is in the fridge. Check around thoroughly.

Thank you! I thought I'd checked thoroughly enough, but didn't even see that drawer.

Maybe I've screwed something up or hit a glitch. I have all three ingredients, but I can't

put the ginger in the bowl,

and I don't have the knife anymore.

@baileydonk

what you need is from the drawer with six buttons

Clues are from the three avocados put on the holder with correct order

End of tale - looks to me like mom arrived home late and supper is not ready. Dad arrives and mom tells him to play with the dog. This gives her enough time to get supper ready. Dog is happy.
That is only from the pictures and experience. Japon characters I can not read.

I'm stuck...

I have the knife, two of the avocados, and the pink paper with the shapes on it. I see the letters on both sets of plates but don't understand how to solve that puzzle. I think it has something to do with getting in the fridge and freezer but can't figure it out. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply

I also can't figure out the

code to the bread maker like thing, though I did get the numbers off the calendar

Reply

I found it all pretty easy and straight forward apart from one part. I was pretty stumped for a while on the whole calendar/shapes/rice cooker(?) puzzle.

For anyone else stuck on the same bit:

A pentagon has five sides. Inside the pentagon shape, when it is lined up correctly on the calendar, is the number 30.

30/5=6

So the answer is:

18/6=3, 24/3=8, 30/5=6, so 3 8 6.

:)

BlueBird August 14, 2015 9:49 PM replied to Imzadi

Imzadi, you're correct:

The plates and the fridge and freezer puzzles are connected. The blue plates are for the blue freezer puzzle and the pink plates are for the pink fridge puzzle. You need to solve the pink plates/fridge first. On the fridge it says -ABC

You need to take away all of the letters ABC away from the pink plates, what remains is the answer...

Five, One, Nine.

On the freezer it says +E

You need to add the letter E to each row on the blue plates...

Egg, Beer, Cake.

You need to count the number of eggs, beers and cake inside the fridge...

4, 5, 1

:)

End scene

Mom: Oh, what's wrong?
Boy: Where did you go! You left the stove on!
Mom: We were out of noodles (soumen) so we went to borrow some from the neighbor.
Girl: Noodles! (soumen)
Boy: ...
Dad: I'm Home!
Dad: Huh? The bar is stuck [against the door].
Mom: It was probably... the dog. Fufu.
Dad: Beer, Beer.
Mom: Ah, you made the condiments for me.
Girl: Big brother, amazing!
Boy: ...yeah.

BlueBird August 23, 2015 4:36 PM replied to Paul

Hi Paul, For the green beans/peas,

you have to enter them into the grid sideways so that it matches the same direction as the beans on the table, you can tell this by the curvy line on the edge of the grid that matches the curvy edge of the pod. One of the green beans (the one on the right) is actually just a little higher than the other. If you were to label the grid, with the curvy line on the left, columns A, B, C and Top, Middle and Bottom, the answer would be, B Top, A Middle and C Bottom.

Hope this helps. :)
