Some of life's greatest mysteries are the little things you never get answers to. Like why the number of chocolate chips in a cookie is always even, or why your socks seem to keep getting holes in them even though you only wear them with your good shoes. Link Dump Friday is not one of those mysteries. It tells you exactly what you will get, every time! How awesome is that?!
- The Tower - A nice take on the defense genre (see BowMaster Prelude and Defend Your Castle for more) where you must build a tower by purchasing and stacking different types of crates, then physically defend the structure while wave after wave of enemies (including cows, boars, and knights) attack.
- Ritris - A variant of Tetris (ever heard of it?) where you get to live out a Tetris player's wildest dreams: creating your own blocks! Draw the shapes you need at the bottom of the screen and send them to the top to clear lines.
- A Typical Wednesday Afternoon - So uh, what'd you do last Wednesday? If it was anything other than move around a confined white space shooting at geometrically shaped enemies that swarmed you in patterns, you probably did something out of the ordinary, because this game illustrates what typical Wednesday afternoons are like.
- Chromatica - A good-looking implementation of the Lines style of matching puzzle. Ain't it pretty? And the power-ups make for an interesting ride.
- Neave's Planetarium - Ever wanted to get a good look at the night sky without the city lights, clouds, cold winds and creepy people walking their dogs? This is the perfect solution, simple in its elegance and extraordinarily useful for stargazing. Just point and click to see what's above your head this very moment. From Paul Neave, creator of Flash Earth.
Neave's Planetarium is amazing! It's very impressive.
I only wish the constellations were labeled for those of us not familiar with the lesser-known ones.
Oh my god, Tower defense is quite difficult. Really hard to build up lots of cash. But great game over all. I especially love the background music. Cool and eerie at times. Love it!
Ritris is a little boring for me. It's a bit of a slow moving game. It would have been nice if the was a bit of background music.
Great concept though. But just a little too slow for me.
It tells you the constellation when you hover over a star...
The whole Neave site is worth looking at. The Planetarium is quite old but I didn't know about Neave Vote, which is very funny.
Fans of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis might recognize the audio in A Typical Wednesday Afternoon as a remix of the BGM from the Chemical Plant zone.
I think the music for A Typical Wednesday Afternoon is from Mega Man, but I can't put my finger on which one. Anyone have any idea?
Oh wait, just looked at the comment directly above mine. Sorry!
Come on! I know they're both blue, but mistaking Sonic for Mega Man? I recognized it almost instantly... of course, that doesn't mean much coming from someone with my screen name...
Sonic music and Megaman music have really similar styles, it's an understandable mistake. This one in particular sounds alot like a Megaman track, it's got the right sort of pattern.
Wait...I think I can recognize what kind of shooter A Typical Wednesday Afternoon is.
Hmm...let me see. A lot of enemies, each one with their own attack pattern, your ship having a hitbox smaller than the ship itself, bullets being fired everywhere and filling much of the screen, and a very useful special. Add to that the very large score counter and the limited lives you got, and...
...I'VE GOT IT! IT'S A BULLET HELL SHOOTER!
