Welcome once again to another installment of Link Dump Friday, coming to you live from the secret JiG Headquarters orbiting in a cloaked flying fortress outside an AMC Theater to ensure we'll be first in line for the latest Harry Potter flick. This week we bring you puzzles, adventure, and big blue blobs with itty-bitty stampy feet. It's everything you never knew you needed, all in one convenient web-based package. It's how we show affection. We're way better than cats that way, and we don't even shed. (Well... I don't.)
- A Blob's Tale 2 - The sequel to the lovely but flawed original, this is an adventure platformer about a big blue guy out to rescue his girlfriend from The Forces of Darkness. (tm) It's undeniably beautiful with its soft colour scheme and big, friendly character design, but the awkward controls and lackluster story that dogged its predecessor persist. It's definitely cute, but lacking in polish. Just don't tell that to the big sleeping cave... demon... guy. He might get angry and you... wouldn't like him when he's angry.
- Rebuzz - I know, I know. You don't just come here for games, you come here for intellectual stimulation, you big hunka burnin' brain, you. Here's a series of visual word puzzles designed to whip your thinky-organ into fighting shape. Having to click back and forth between keyboard and mouse control in order to input your answers and then advance to the next level is annoying, but it's still a clever little game. Kind of like the riddle equivalent of an espresso shot. Or, uh... since espresso sucks, something tastier.
- (Don't) Save The Princess - This little puzzle game doesn't want you to save the princess. In fact, it wants you to place down a series of obstacles designed to expedite the hero's demise at the jaws of what I'm sure some people might consider a very intimidating beast. I know it goes against everything video games have taught you, but trust me, it's better this way. I saved a princess once, and the next day, she had fungus growing everywhere in the house. Do you know what fungus grows in?! I could not send her back to that giant fire-breathing turtle fast enough, tell you what.
- Speed Escape 2 - If you're questioning why you would let someone lock you in three rooms (again) and give you five minutes to escape, well, clearly you've never worked around here. Jay makes us solve point-and-click puzzles just to get into the office. (Which is still preferable to the platforming corridor he set up over a lava pit in front of the employee restrooms. Which is still better than the "riddles three" we have to answer each month to get paid. I think he maybe plays too many games.)
- Chain Tower - It's not often that I'm actually rendered speechless, but this Japanese point-and-click game is so weird it just sort of leaves you making vague gestures in the air with your hands while your mouth forms not-words. I guess there's a guy and a puppy dog painting a room, and then you come along and mess it all up? Maybe? It's one of those cases where I'm not sure a translation would have done much to clear things up, but it's still a weirdly enjoyable little bon-bon of craziness.
Anyone figured out Hard level 3 of Rebuzz? I'm stuck :\
A Blob's Tale is yet another game that you can't play on a non-US keyboard. If the rest of the game is as flawed as the keyboard routines, I recommend to pass on it and play a better game.
@quanzi
the word is operation
what's missing?
@Quanzi
I'll admit, I cheated for that one. Google is pretty good at brain teasers. I'll hint you first, though.
It's a single word, with letters missing.
OPER_T_O_
OPERAT_O_
OPERATION
But what's missing?
P A I N
So, if it's without PAIN, it's...
painless
painless operation
The next one is no better (Hard Level 4). Any ideas? I thought it was
"trip over backwards" or "trips over backwards"
or something like that, but no go.
Got it. Bit of a stretch, this one.
More than one over.
Which way do you read them?
To the left.
So they are...
leftovers
By the way, if you don't want to keep clicking back and forth in Rebuzz, just Tab over and hit space to submit. Shift + Tab to go backwards, or just keep tabbing until you circle back. Viva los perezosos!
Stuck on level 22 of (Don't) Save the Princess. If anybody could help me out, I'd appreciate it.
Also, Jay sounds like an... interesting... boss to work for.
Nevermind, power of posting, and all that. If anybody else gets stuck there, a hint:
You have to activate the red switch. I spent so much time trying to figure out how to avoid it but then once I realized that, it was easy.
Quantzi,
The word is 'operation'.
The missing word is 'pain'.
The correct answer is 'painless operation'.
Hope that helps!
I love the comment on speed escape. Now we know how it feels being jay's employee. :P
A blob's tale is a nice little candy. Liked the atmosphere.
So does anyone know rebuzz hard #5?
I'm having problems with Don't Save the Princess. On level 8, I need to place a box above where the screen ends. Is there any way to move the screen?
Hey, Droopy. You can crash through the middle arrow block.
I am having trouble with Rebuzz hard level 2.
Alex: There's a black rectangle propping up the word moral. What is the rectangle providing?
support?
Anyone got a hint on the code for the first of the speed escapes?
red square, green star, blue hexagon. Red 6, green 9, blue 1. number times number of corners doesn't work, number plus number of corners doesn't work, number times number of sides doesn't work, number plus number of sides doesn't work . . .
svoight:
I think the shapes are a red herring, as far as I can tell. "6-9-1" or whatever the order of the colors is worked for me.
muddgirl:
AHHH! and allowing all those digits in the field, too, another red herring. AHHH!
Thank you.
Anybody have anything for the last room in Speed escape two?
I have gotten:
The lamp lit, the game council, and the telescope lens
I can't seem to figure out
The color combination to open the garage door. I think it has something to do with the map (or maybe even the lamp) but I can't figure out what to do with the clues.
I loved Chain Tower...not that weird.!
Well...I guess
disembodied glasses
could be construed as , um, strange...
But I liked it!
(And not because I worked it all out for myself...not at all...really, not at all...)
aha! Nevermind. Power of posting I suppose. It turned out I needed something else before I could solve the puzzle.
In case you get stuck on the same place as me
Just click around some more
still stuck? Well then
click the chairs to get the mouse. Should be straight forward after that
@sgtdroopy
Although you can place blocks around the edge of the screen, they'll never be usable in (Don't) Save the Princess. So you'll need another way to work it out.
Hint #1:
What happens to a block after it's triggered?
Hint #2:
What happens if you hit a block on a side that's not sparkly?
On the whole, I didn't find DSTP to be all that much fun. The puzzles just didn't have enough to them, and the supposed inversion of theme didn't add anything either.
Especially on the last level; I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to actually get to the princess, per the level name.
Does Dora stay up for 48 hours straight then slam a thermos of coffee before writing her reviews?
Just askin'
I'm stuck on room #2 in Speed Escape. I know I'm ALMOST to the end:
I have mixed the appropriate items in the fireplace, and now that I need to put them somewhere, I believe I know where they're supposed to go, but I can't use any combo of clicking and/or my fire poker to get the mixture out of the fireplace. What have I missed?
And of course, power of the post. But to anyone stuck in that spot:
The fire poker doesn't need to go in the fireplace...
It's more like 36, AaronzDad. Girl needs her beauty sleep.
DONT play blobs tale 1 if you dont like spiders!
what #18 in rebuzz? plz help
nvm, i got it it was
point blank range
Aw, Chain Tower of goodness! I want more!
Feeling stupid. Absolutely can NOT get past level 4 of DSTP.
choirboy--
Re: point-blank range.
What threw me is that it ought to be hyphenated, but it only accepted the non-hyphenated spelling. Boo!
rebuzz
Easy: 12
get give
get give
get give
get give
Are you kidding me?
On Rebuzz easy level 4, it wouldn't accept my answer until I spelled it
win sum, lose sum
My English teacher is spinning in her grave.
Carny Asada --
It accepted "you win some you lose some" from me.
Arghh!
Stuck on the first level of Speed Escape 2...
I've attached the hose and knob to the tap, and the pulley and rope to the key machine, but still can't fill the bucket with water or pull the lever
and can't seem to be able to do anything else.
Never mind.
The power of posting never ceases to amaze..!
PS: I noticed that people before me are kind enough to post their solutions in case anyone else gets stuck at the same place.
I'm not that nice.
Instead of trying to fill the bucket straight from the hose, hang it on the end of the rope
amofilem, I'm stuck on Hard level 2 of Rebuzz as well...
...And now I've realized there's a walkthrough here (the link's under the controls description):
http://fwgforum.com/fwg1/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2103
Be warned, though, it'll just give you the answers to all the puzzles.
As for the answer to Hard level 2...
What's happening to the word fast?
It's breaking. So the answer is...
breakfast
Hey, here is a note on "REBUZZ". If you really hate having to use the mouse try using the "TAB" key it works very nicely.
