This week's Link Dump Friday is dedicated to viruses. Yes, those pesky little creatures that invade larger organisms, hijack their cells and force them to make more of the virus to continue the biological shenanigans. Fortunately a little video game of sorts plays out and the immune system kicks in, sending forces to destroy the invaders with really cool sound effects. It's kind of like a tower defense game, only with sneezing.
- Vector TDx - A sequel to one of the most stylish tower defense games Vector TD, only a bit more difficult. Each tower type is strong against certain colors of enemies (called vectoids) and you must place them on the map to maximize their efficiency.
- Thule Trail - A new take on the old Oregon Trail game, you play as the driver of a car with a group of friends trying to avoid mishaps and keep yourself amused on a road trip to the Atlantis Music Festival. While on the road, you play various mini-games to earn more money and run into some hilarious situations, some of which involve crazy hitch-hikers. Even the graphics and music emulate that old 80s game with style, and expect an inside joke or two for Oregon Trail fans.
- T.A.G. - Another "dumb" game from Hamumu, in T.A.G. you make up an acronym and then vote on what other players have entered. Each day is a new game, and the best acronyms earn points. Similar to DumbWords in style, but with a little more creative slant.
- Ladybird - A logic game where you must place numbered tiles on the grid so that each facing digit matches. Not a new concept by far, but the presentation and replay value makes it worth a round or two. Plus, there's a ladybug.
vector TD is nice game
I'm not sure if Vector TD X is completable. I've filled every single slot in the game with maxed out teleporters, missile launchers, slowdowners, and i've got a huge section of +100% damage bonus maxed out missile launchers and I can't get past level 47. The first wave of stupidly powerful Orange Regeners got me down to 5 lives and the second finished me off.
i much prefer the previously reviewed Stained Glass to ladybird. its easier to visualize placement with colors than with numbers.
man, I've been playing Vector TDx for two or three hours, and I can't get past level 30 or so.
I don't even know if the game is beatable
thumbs down on vector tdx, i can't figure how to load other level types, or if there are other level types, most of the towers are the same but the enemies are harder.
I'm going back desktop tower defense, the world's greatest td game.
I beat Thule and saw Bigfoot!!!1!
Thule Trail brought back so many memories of elemtery school! If you were good you got to get out of class early to play Oregon Trail, beat that thing so many times! Now I have to look for it to download!
scott:
What exactly do you mean by "load other level types"? Do you mean other maps, or higher level towers? If you're talking about higher level towers, you just need to save up enough money to buy them (putting your mouse over the tower you want describes it and states it's cost). If you're talking about other maps, I'm not sure if there are any.
I do have to agree with you that Desktop TD is one of the best (if not the best) tower defense games.
Mental Stoner:
You played Oregon Trail at your elementary school? Lucky you! The only time I would play games at elementary school was when they were educational (for instance, Math Blaster).
go to youtube and type in vector tdx, and you get some good techniques on how to win
and I dont like it either, but the new weapons are good like the blue one !!
If you go to youtube you won't find techniques on how to win TDX, you will find it's very impossible to win. I don't think you can get past level 37 without cheating, and even with hacking to infinite money, the guy couldn't get past level 45, he had to increase the damage of the towers.
I liked the first one, but it'd be nice if the game was finish-able.
With infinite money I managed to get all the way into the mid 40's, but that's as far as you can go. I filled the entire map with level 10 rocket and "complete freeze" and slowdown towers, and put teleporters to keep everything in the highest damage zone. Even with a crazy number of 100% damage booster towers hitting on orange regeners that were completely frozen they never died.
This was a problem in the previous incarnation too - some of the "hard" maps were simply impossible. This is even worse, since the enemies ramp up so quickly once you hit the 20's and 30's. It's too bad, because it's a very slick tower defense game graphically, and the weapons are nice.
