Neutral Halloween

JayMya of Neutral has just released a new mini-game, and this one appears (at random) in the banner at the top of the Neutral site. Neutral Halloween mini-game is what I'm calling this cute and easy escape game with a Halloween theme (well, it used to have a Halloween theme. The pumpkin has been replaced with a piggy bank now.) It features the same excellent implementation features of all the other Neutral games, along with simple yet appealing and effective graphics. Like many escape games, there is only one exit, and yet there are two different possible endings: 'normal' clear and 'perfect'. I'm sure you will find this one worthwhile of your time!

Play Neutral Mini Escape Game

Cheers to Martha for sending this one in! =)

Since the game appears at random on the site you may have to reload the page a couple of times until you see the mini escape game.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Full Walkthrough:

Go left, check under the matt for a key

click on the lamp, grab the coin from inside the lampshade

Go left again, look in the trash can and note that # = 3

Click on the stool cushion, grab the coin

Go left again, click on the black shirt then the orange one and take the scoop

Use the key to open the blue door, take the disk

Go left, zoom in on the potted plant and use the scoop to dig another coin out of the dirt

Go right, open the left side of the cabinet and insert all three coins and pull the lever, take the battery

Go right, click on the computer and then click to the right of the computer, insert the disk and turn on the computer

Take a look at the computer screen, open the file called pass1.dat. It should look like this !&*%$

Look at the keyboard and you'll see that # = 3 like it said in the trash can, now look at each symbol and see that it correlates to:! =1, & = 6, * = :, % = 5, and $ = 4. What to do with 16:54?

Go left and open the little red door, notice the sleeping bird. Now look up at the clock, turn it around and put the battery in it. Set the hours with the middle button (set to 16) and set the minutes with the right button (set to 54) and then hit the left button. It will set off an alarm and open the key compartment, take the key, then go back down to the red door and take the (now awake) bird

Go left and use the key to open the bottom drawer, take the screwdriver

Go left, zoom in on the mirror and use the screwdriver to remove the screw on the right, open the mirror, click the light switch.

Go right and take the coin from the wall between the couch and the potted plant. Do a full scan of the room and notice the colors that correspond to each shape

Turn the light back on then go back to the cabinet and insert the coin, pull the lever, and take the USB drive

Go to the computer, insert the USB drive, and open the file called pass2.swf, you will see the shapes

Click on each shape until it turns the color it's suppose to be, need a hint?

Blue Triangle, White Circle, Black Heart, Red Star, Green Diamond

Click the OK button, the door will unlock, go open it and climb up the ladder

Push on the door 6 times to open it, hmm, something must have been sitting on top of it. Either way, you're out! Yay!

But is it over?

Click on the trap door to close it, then click on the biggest bird, he'll start flying, click on the nest and he'll land in it. Do that with each of the other birds and then click on the one you took from the red cabinet and put him on top, now you're done!

Complete walkthrough:

Part 1:

get key from under doormat.
get shovel from behind orange shirt.
get 3 coins from under orange chair in front of computer, use shovel to dig through the soil, and inside the lampshade by the door (lift it first).

Part 2:

use blue key to open blue box drawer, get disk.
use the 3 coins in the machine inside the TV stand to get a battery for the alarm clock.
put the disk in the computer and push the power button on the side to get password 1.

password 1 hint:

look in the trash can

password 1:

the symbols correspond to the numbers 16:54. plug that into the alarm clock and press the green button to wake up the bird and get another key.

Part 3:

pick up the bird.
use the yellow key on the nightstand to get a screwdriver, and use the screwdriver on the mirror.
once the mirror's open, flick the switch.

Part 4 hint:

notice 1 glow-in-the-dark item that's not a shape?

Part 4:

Grab the glow-in-the-dark sphere by the couch, use the coin in the machine again, and get a USB drive. Plug it into the computer for password 2.

Password 2 hint:

Notice the backgrounds of the shapes.

Password 2:

Click on the shapes on the computer to turn them blue, white, black, red, green. It will open the door.

Part 5:

Go up the ladder. Click on the hatch until it opens.

I just beat this on Lazylaces. It was tricky at one point, but it's not so hard.

Reply

Oh so cute!

Reply

I don't get it...

I think I have the final code (with colors) and the little bird, but I don't know what to do with them.

Reply

Has nothing to do with Halloween except for the pumpkin, and very very easy.

Reply

Hmm, very easy but I wonder why I didn't get the perfect ending. Maybe I did and don't know.

Reply

I'm in the same boat as Youpi.

Stuck with the final password and the bird.

Reply

I need a little help.

I have the bird and I can climb the ladder, but I don't know how to open the hatch.

Reply

Never mind, I think I got the perfect ending. The birds said "Thank You" Was that it?

Reply

I might just write a walkthrough, but until then here are some answers:

To open the door you need to

Keep pushing on it, it will open after a few tries

For the final password

note the colors of the shapes when the lights are turned off, go back to the puter and click on each shape until it becomes that color, then click okay.

Reply

I have

Used the floppy disc in the computer and got a five symbol code, seen the code in the trash can, and gotten and used the battery on the digital clock.

Now I'm stuck. Any hints on where to go from here?

Reply

I can't figure out the computer part. I understand I am suppose to type in that code but I can't figure out how to do it! Help!

A hint, for those having trouble with the first code, the computer in the game is different from the one under your hands.

I'm stuck. The colors of the all of the shapes are light green on my game. NOT an option on the computer? Any suggestions?

Reply

changing the time on clock according to the code on the computer

the types coincide with numbers on the keyboard

But now I'm stuck.

My keyboard is different! I was doing the correct thing but the symbols said 17854 on my British keyboard!

Reply
Patreon Crew SonicLover October 15, 2008 4:13 PM

British keyboard, heck... my American keyboard is the same way.

Reply

Very cute little addition. Got through it easily with no help. I thought it was funny when I realized

you have to push the door at the top of the ladder several times to knock all the birds out of the nest first. That's the cheeping you hear. :D

Reply

The link leads to the site where the newest game is "Switch". Is that the game?

Reply
MrProsser October 15, 2008 4:55 PM

I hate to just use a number from a walkthrough without knowing where it comes from. My keyboard layout results in 17854, like beckslouise. What keyboard layout does this work for or am I missing something else? The hint in the game seemed pretty clear.

Reply
MrProsser October 15, 2008 4:57 PM

Ahh, I see the comment above that I missed. I guess that answers my question.

Reply

MrProsser:

Use the keyboard on the computer in the game (don't literally use it, just use it as a reference).

Reply

JIGuest:

The color is what is underneath the light when it is on (under normal lighting conditions) not the glowing shape itself. Except for the shirt I could easily tell what they were even with the lights off.

Reply
Demonskrye October 15, 2008 9:00 PM

I got through the OK ending pretty much without help and only needed a little hint on the perfect ending.

I didn't think to check in on the little cheeper after setting off the alarm.

Cute, fun little diversion with next to nothing to do with Halloween. A great little game for the more casual room escaper.

I suck.

I need a walktrough for this.

I really suck.

*facepalm*
just learned that one. hope there's no copyright.-):p^-^

For the first code, you have to use the computer in the game, not the one you're using. The code is:

16:54

Reply

Cute game Easy enough to get.
Thanks

Reply

About the computer...

It's lame that the pass1.dat code is 5 digits but the clock you're supposed to use the code on has only 5 digits. Besides, it's wrong. 16:54 is not 17854.

...it's that sort of thing that makes me mad about these games, even though I like these kinds of games.

That, and how sometimes how you go and click all over everywhere and then have to check the walkthrough and find out that even though the review said there was no pixel hunting, it turns out that there is. :-(

I love Neutral... I want to have his escaping babies... once again he proves that he makes the best escape games, and knows whether something is illogical and avoids it...
To all you people who are complaining about the whole keyboard issue...I'm sure someone must have said it, but seriously:

There is a keyboard in the room!.. it doesn't matter what keyboard you have physically in front of you!.. unlike a recently reviewed game on JIG that tried the same approach and failed

Quick and fun. Perfect for a coffee break!

Reply

Pretty sure Mya is a girl.

Cute game!

Reply

Very easy, perfect for a break! By the way, isn`t the little chick the same one from the secret ending of Switch (other Neutral escape)?

Reply

Scoop, your post makes no sense. There was no pixel hunting in this game and the first code made perfect sense if you have read any of the hints on here explaining it.

Reply

I'm so happy, I was able to get through this with absolutely no help! And it only took me a few minutes, too.

Mind you, I only got the one ending, and now I'm curious to see what the other ending is. I got the

door open to a ladder, go up, see birds around a nest

.

Is that the normal or the perfect ending?

Reply

molto molto carino :)!very cute!

Reply

So cute! When you think you've finished, there is still one thing in your inventory. Finish the last bit to get the cute ending.

Reply

ray9na: That's the normal ending. You're just a few clicks away from perfect though =)

Aww, you knocked them right out of their nest

Reply

Great little game! The only time I had to use the walkthrough at all was to realize that I had to check back on a spot I'd looked at before in order to get the 'perfect' ending. I've only got two minor quibbles with the game:

The color-shapes thing was slightly annoying--I would have liked to have seen a way to 'mark' the glowing shapes in the dark, so that you could easily see where they were when you turned the lights back on. I resorted to the 'finger on the screen' method to find them.

and

Yeesh, I don't know why people are kvetching about the keyboard thing...it's basic Chekov's Gun, people! If there's an in-board keyboard shown that's non-functional, it's likely going to be Significant in some way. That said--I do have a minor complaint that *more* of the keyboard should have been shown to include the * to : transposition--my first reaction was to interpret the * as a multiplication sign (I've programmed since 8-bit machines, so that's natural. :-) ) and wonder why '864' made no sense on the clock. :-)

Reply

Chris,

The keyboard is shown in full. You just have to click over, and the * is on the bottom right.

Reply

For the 1st time no walkthrough needed. XD

Reply

Wait... Mya is a girl?

That has changed my perspective on everything.

Why do no girls in England make escape room games?
That is an instant way to my heart...

PS... if you know one let me know!

Reply

Perfectly executed Halloween theme.

An innocent little chick gets drugged and locked up in an underground room, while its sequentially bigger family lie around unconscious, probably halfway insane from worrying whether the chickie will ever come back... now that's scary.

Reply

baba, you've got it all wrong. Evil shape-shifter morphs into a deceptively innocent-looking chick, thus tricking you into helping it escape its underground prison. Once released it subjugates a family of birds by forcing them to line up military style and then sitting on their heads.

Thanks jay.
All good.
Nice little game.

Reply

xdrngy--

I suppose I could have been a little more specific. That and afterward, I tried things just a little differently.

The first time around, I had the chick from the cupboard with me and I was able to stack up the chicks I'd knocked from the nest when I climbed out. The second time, I left the chick behind and everything went almost the same except I couldn't stack the chicks. So I guess the "normal" and "perfect" endings are very, very similar to each other? Because in other games, the alternate endings are quite different from each other.

Aww! This was pretty simple but the whole game was really cute. I only got stuck at the very end when I couldn't

open the trapdoor

, haha. Very nice!

Reply

I figured out that

keyboard symbol code even before I look in the red garbage bin and I knew they are to be used as numbers on the clock but I dont know why on my keyboard they refer to different unmbers, for me *=8 and &=7

so i had to look in the walkthrough, other than that everything was a piece of cake.

Also there was no pumpkin but a piggy bank instead!

you had to figure out the colored shapes code thingy. that was a little frustrating

Reply

It seems to be missing from her site once again

This game gets bonus points for being so small on the screen.
