Pool Cocktail Escape 2

elleIt's all well and good to lounge by the pool, sipping sweet mixed drinks and getting a sunburn that'll hurt long after your hangover is gone. You might even humble brag about the time this eccentric resort forced you to solve a bunch of puzzles before you could even end your swank vacation. Ah yeah, it's a rough life but someone has to live it. That someone in this case is TomaTea and, since you're just so lucky enough, you, in Pool Cocktail Escape 2. This time around, night has fallen on that very same Pool Cocktail oasis you escaped from before. With a moonlit sky above, there's no need to slather on the sunscreen. Concern yourself instead with finding the clues, which are well hidden in this poolside setting, and deciphering codes to gather the ingredients for another fancy cocktail, your key to escape.

Pool Cocktail Escape 2As you explore the scene, a glowing cursor will help you find active areas, but a big rectangular swimming pool in the center of the "room" might complicate your movements. To change views, click the grey bars at the edges of the screen, either at the sides or bottom depending on if you're turning or backing up. Then, stay alert for even the slightest visual clue to help you solve a slew of puzzles along the bar area. While the puzzles are mostly easy enough to warrant the "simple summer escape" subtitle TomaTea gives this game, catching all the clues is not as effortless as all that. There's a couple that are easy to miss and one in particular comes more from desperately rechecking every detail than from intuition or logic. Likewise, you may want to brush up on the rules of picross before beginning this escape. At times, you'll wonder why you apparently "have a clue" even as you scratch your head as to what it could be. That's all part of one of the many reasons you love TomaTea, though. A few head-desk moments are always followed by some aha! grinning—when you're out, you can tip your virtual drink and bask in the glow of well-earned success.

Walkthrough Guide

(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)

Walkthrough, of a sort

This is more a solutions guide than a walkthrough: it just details how to open the 8 doors on the front wall, and how to solve the picross puzzle. However, I did include a suggested sequence. Colorblind help is provided throughout.

Navigation: basically, if you can see where you want to go, try clicking there. If you can't see where you want to go, click the arrows at the sides (or, sometimes, the bottom) until it comes into view.

Left side

Top left - 4x4 grid

Clue is on the 3 tables.

Look at the back side of any of the cards. (Ignore the fruit.)

_ _ X _
_ X _ X
X _ X _
_ X _ _

Get: red heart pick

Top right - 4 letters in 3 colors

Clue is on the 3 tables.

You'll need to light the candles.

The left candleholder is shaped like an S, and the candle turns blue when lit. The middle candleholder is shaped like an A, and the candle turns yellow when lit. The right candleholder is shaped like an E, and the candle turns pink when lit.
Colorblind: the letter buttons are blue, pink, yellow, and blue.

SEAS

Get: yellow X pick, lightbulb

Bottom left - 3 shapes

Clue is on the 3 tables.

Look closely at the tables themselves, not any of the items on them.

The part where the table leg is attached to the glass is a different shape on each table.

square, circle, hexagon

Get: screwdriver

Bottom right - keyhole

You'll need the screwdriver.

The key is in one of the gratings next to the pool.

When you're looking at the lounge chairs, click the grating on the left. Use the screwdriver to remove the grate, then get the key.

Get: ice cubes

Picross

Usual picross rules apply: the numbers denote contiguous blocks of colors, and the puzzle comes from not being told how many blank cells are between each block. To start, find the row where the numbers add up to 10, because that means there are no blank cells in that row. Make sure to blank out any empty squares - if you have any question marks showing, the game doesn't consider it solved.
Colorblind:

blank = 1 click, blue = 2 clicks, yellow = 3 clicks, red = 4 clicks, then it cycles back to a question mark.

Clue is not on the 3 tables. In fact, it's very close by.

After solving the picross puzzle, press the white button to the right and watch the picture.

LRRLLRRL

Get: tequila, matches

Top right - 3 fruits

Clue is on the 3 tables.

Look at the back sides of the cards.

Notice the fruit on the lower left on each one: strawberry, raspberry, cherry

Get: cocktail flute

Bottom left - 4 numbers

The main clue is the four martini glasses, but don't worry, the three tables are involved, too.

Colorblind: the glasses are green, yellow, red, and blue. The pick colors are given where you find them.

Put the picks in the appropriate glasses, then do the math.

  • Diamond

    Look in the pool.

    69

  • X

    It's a multiplication symbol, actually.

  • Heart

    You'll need the lightbulb.

Look at the back wall (with the trompe l'oeil painting) and click towards the left. Put the lightbulb in the lamp and observe the wall.

    3

  • Star

Told you the 3 tables would be involved.

Look at the front of any of the cards, specifically at the star-shaped pick.

    7

Math: 69×37 = 2553

Get: pitcher of orange juice, straw

Bottom right - 2x2 colored buttons

Clue is not on the 3 tables. In fact, it's very close by.

Look at the bottles on the wall.

Top left = yellow, top right = blue, bottom left = green, bottom right = red.
Colorblind: TL 0 clicks, TR 1 click, BL 3 clicks, BR 2 clicks

Get: blue star pick

Other items

  4. 2×2 color buttons

  5. Examine the 3 tables

  6. 4×4 grid

  9. 3 fruits

  10. Collect other items

  11. Examine the 4 martini glasses

  12. 4 numbers

  13. Play bartender

  14. Exeunt

Escaping

  1. Use the recipe from the picross puzzle to make a tequila sunrise.

Look at the cocktail flute. Add the tequila, then the orange juice, then the grenadine, then the ice cubes. If you haven't already, open the cocktail umbrella you found under the lounge chair. Add it and the straw to the cocktail flute.

  2. Face the exit doors and click them to zoom in.

  3. Open the panel on the left and put the drink where the arrow indicates.

Guide to Puzzle Solutions

Nonogram (picross)
No in-game clue necessary. This is a colored puzzle so the solution is different from a standard nonogram in that some of the different sets of blocks can touch each other. Once solved, make sure all the other blocks are empty with no question marks, then push the button to enter the answer.

Color the blocks as follows. Leave the remaining squares empty. (If you start with a question mark, click twice for blue, thrice for yellow, four times for red)
Row 1: 9/10 yellow
Row 2: 9 Yellow
Row 3: 9 yellow
Row 4: 1 blue, 2/3/4/5/6/7 red, 8 yellow, 9 red, 10 blue
Row 5: 2 blue, 3/4/5/6 red, 7 yellow, 8 red, 9 blue
Row 6: 3 blue, 4/5 red, 6 yellow, 7 red, 8 blue
Row 7: 4 blue, 5 yellow, 6 red, 7 blue
Row 8: 5/6 blue
Row 9: 5/6 blue
Row 10: 4/5/6/7 blue

It's a Bloody Mary!

Left-Right (Right cabinet, upper left door)

Hit the button beside the solved nonogram puzzle. Lights will flash with the left-right code.

L R R L L R R L

Colored Foursquare (right cabinet, lower right door)

Zoom back out and look at the bar. Your four colored squares clue is right in front of you.

Note the colors of the bottles on the four shelves

Yellow Blue (1 click)
Green (3 clicks) Red (2 clicks)

4x4 Grid (Left cabinet, upper left door)

The clue for this is hidden on the tables. Examine the pictures.

Pull up the picture of the cocktail on any table. Click the dog-ear in the upper right corner to flip it over. The pattern of cocktails on the grid is your solution. You can click on any picture on any table, and the 4x4 clue will be the same.

Three Fruits (Right cabinet, upper right door)

This clue is also on the tables, in the same place as the 4x4 clue on the backs of the pictures.

The cocktail pattern is the same on all three pictures, but what about the fruit in the bottom left corner? Look at the pictures on all three tables to find the three different fruits.

strawberry, raspberry, cherry

Three Shapes (Left cabinet, Lower left door)

Check the tables. Again.

Look at the center of the glass tabletops. Note the shape of the metal rod supporting the table. Compare with the other tables.

Square, circle, hexagon

Candles

Light the candles on the tables with the MATCHES. This will give you a color clue for the next puzzle

Four Letters (Left cabinet, upper right door)

This clue is also on the tables.

Check out those fancy candlesticks. Are they all the same on all the tables?

Combine each candlestick letter with the candle colors above it. Then insert the letters on the corresponding colored slots. Note that you will need the blue letter twice.

blue red yellow blue indicates S E A S

Light Bulbs

Insert the BULB into the dark lamp on the wall with the mural. This will give you a clue for the next puzzle.

Four Digits (Right cabinet, lower left door)

For your clue, insert the four colored SKEWERS into the corresponding colored glasses against the wall.

in left-right order, a green DIAMOND, a yellow X, a red HEART, and a blue STAR.

Use the shape clues from around the room to determine the numbers.

The diamond indicates 69, per the diamond underwater in the pool. The heart is 3, per the light BULB clue. The star is 7, per the pictures on the tables. The X is not a number (That's why there is no olive in the X glass).

diamond, x, heart, star, equals 69 x 37 equals 2553.

Cocktail Key

Use the recipe card from your inventory to make the cocktail. Pull up the GLASS from your inventory and add the ingredients in the order listed on the recipe card. Don't forget to add the straw and the umbrella at the end! Now use the cocktail on the panel beside the gate.

The gods that control the gate must have liked it. Because you're free now!

If you get stuck, go back to the three tables. There are at least 5 separate clues hidden there.

The three shapes

The middle of each table

The three fruits

Each table has a picture of drinks. Flip the card to see the fruit on the back.

The 4x4 grid

The red and blue drinks on the back the pictures

The color of the candles after being lit.

The four letters

The shape of the candle holders

Has anyone figured out the four numbers?

I have the order: diamond, X, heart, star. I know star=7 and heart=3 but diamond=69? or 6? or 9? and I have no idea about X

Thank you elle!!

That was neat as always from TomaTea. I always end up tying to over think them which is a mistake.

The thing that though me for the longest time was

The star number!

That was very fun! The picross gave me some trouble, but overall very enjoyable and logical.

Yay for Tomatea!

Pool Cocktail 2 Walkthrough

Exploring

Facing the Mural

In the pool: a diamond with '69' inside it

At the pool chairs: a little green triangle that folds out into a Cocktail Umbrella

On the left of the mural: a lamp with a missing bulb

On the right of the mural: a plant with a Diamond Drink Marker

Pool Chair View

On the shelf: four different colored cocktails.

By the door: a panel that lifts up to show an empty space. Guessing by the game name, I think we'll put our cocktail here.

In the bottom left, there's a grate you can zoom in on. It needs a screwdriver to open.

Tables View

There are a LOT of hints here. Pay very close attention to everything.

Tables:

Where the bases are visible under the glass, each table has a different shape

Candlesticks:

Each curly candlestick makes up a letter. They each have unlit candles as well

Cocktail Notes:

Note the star with a '7' in it

At the top right there's a dark triangle indicating you can flip the notes.

Note the arrangement of blue & red drinks

Note also the fruit in the bottom left. It is different at each small table

Cabinets View

Well! Here are quite a lot of cabinet doors with their own codes.

Note the picross puzzle in between the two banks of cabinets

Collect Grenadine from the red bottles on the bottom right.

Solving Puzzles

4 Letter Puzzle

The letters in the code are colored. We haven't seen those colors, but we have seen letters...

Go to the Tables view and look at the candlesticks. You can now use the Matches to light the candles.

Match the color to the letter and enter in the letters in the right order

Four Cocktail Glasses

Now that you have four Drink Markers, time to go mark some drinks. They should match by color:

This hint comes from the four cocktails (with markers) and from various places around the room.

Symbol Values:

Diamond: in the pool (69)

Star: on the Tables View note (7)

Heart: use the Lightbulb on the empty lamp (3)

With all the values of the symbols, and the X to act as a multiplication sign, you have the equation for the code.

Did the whole damn thing without a hint except here I am at the end, everything opened except the cupboard that needs a key, and all I have is a screwdriver, and I can't find anything to use it on, to presumably get the key. What needs a screwdriver? I can't for the life of me see anything.

Reply
Canuckistan Bob July 9, 2014 5:58 PM

Ah, power of posting, the obscure pool grate

That was a really nice one, subtle but not stupid, the only really hidden thing was the damn grate. That, and you had to put some coloured things INTO their right places before it would let you solve one puzzle, it wasn't just enough to know what they signified.

I am stumped. Could someone please tell me how to open the lower right cabinet on the right side of the bar? I've seen the clue (I can fiddle with the four buttons), but I have not seen it (I don't know the code nor what tells me the code).

It was the symbols that I couldn't figure out

Reply
JudyJetson July 9, 2014 10:01 PM

That was short and sweet. I felt a little let down at the end, as I was expecting to have to solve a few more puzzles in the courtyard before I was officially "out." It left me feeling like my escape was cut short. But upon reflection, it has been barely a week or so since the last TT escape game, so it wouldn't make sense to expect anything too elaborate.

I loved how many layers of clues were packed into one area of the game. That was brilliant. No matter how much you think you see, there's always one more clue to find.

Nothing like a TomaTea to give the middle of your week a nice boost.

I have always loved playing Tomatea's escapes, but his recent infatuation with Picross puzzles has, sadly, put me me off playing his games.

Colored nonogram puzzles are not for everyone, sadly I am one. I've tried and tried to understand them, but to no avail. I've been unable to play the last few Tomatea games because i refuse to follow the clues to fill in the puzzle if all I'm doing is following someone's instruction without understanding it. I love Tomatea, but this nonogram infatuation has put me off of them until they stop. For those who like nonograms, enjoy. :(

Here's a pretty good intro to monochrome picross puzzles:

http://www.heroglyphix.com/rules.php

The difference between monochrome puzzles and multicolored ones is that in a multicolor puzzle, there doesn't have to be a blank space between blocks of a different color - the color change, rather than a blank space, can define the block boundaries.

Thanks, Reka. I'll try to give it another go.

I did it! Once I figured out the nonogram everything else was pure Tomatea bliss. Thanks again Reka.

Nonograms can seem really complicated, but the concept is simple once you get the hang of it. It just takes practice. The puzzle in this game was more complicated because it was multicolored rather than monocolored, so don't be too frustrated for having trouble with it. It's not you... it's just challenging. TomaTea's nonograms are usually one or two star difficulty, so if you're reading up on how to solve them, you probably don't need to worry about the more complicated techniques for solving more difficult puzzles. Kudos for persisting, and good luck with the next one. :)
