Room 11: Xmas Tree

It's that time of year, when you hear those sleigh bells ring-a-ling, and the escape game developers start releasing Christmas themed games, so it should come as no surprise to stumble across Ichima's Room 11: Xmas Tree. Contrary to what you may expect from the title, apart from some small statues, there's no real tree in the cozy little room you're locked in... but you can see one outside! Hm! Don't be daunted by the lack of an English text option. Just click to explore the room and interact with everything you can. Clicking an object in your inventory to highlight it, and then the big blue button in the bottom right, will allow you to view it up close. Ichima has always been great at making smart, logical puzzles that don't require language to figure out, though the "oooohhhhhhh" you make when you finally do is probably universal. Room 11: Xmas Tree is fun, clever, and just the ticket for escape fans looking for a Christmassy challenge that won't make smoke come out of their ears, but will keep them on their toes.

Walkthrough Guide

Walkthrough

First, take a look around the room. If you haven't encountered a bench, a bookshelf, a locked Christmas tree, and some seasonal-looking bowling pins, stop reading and start playing.

Yellow ornament

There's nothing to solve here - just find the picture of ornaments on the wall (it's just to the left of the bookshelf), lift it up, and there it is.

Blue ornament

Find the box that says 2037 (it's on top of the bookshelf). If you click the buttons, they rotate. I wonder what you could spell?

Hint: it's seasonal. Also, it appears in the room (check the wall shelves).

NOEL

Red ornament

First, find the silver key.

It's in a book on the bottom of the bookshelf.

Now, look at the locked Christmas tree on the wall shelves.

Whatcha waiting for? Unlock it!

The letters stand for colors.

Red, blue, yellow, blue, red, red, yellow. What have you seen in the room that came in primary colors?

Look at the snowman bowling pins. Clicking the snowmen doesn't seem to do anything except jiggle them a bit, in groups of three; but their arrangement looks oddly familiar, and so does that little branch on the right of the stump they're sitting on.

The buttons on the bench have a little branch growing off the right side, and it's an up arrow - like the yellow snowmen; a straight line - like the red snowmen; and a down arrow - like the blue snowmen.

Straight, down, up, down, straight, straight, up.

Get the snow shovel, and look at the gray box.

That arrangement of squares should look familiar. If you click one of the squares in the top row, it turns red; click it again, and it turns white. The other squares aren't clickable.

Look at the tiles on the hearth.

Red, not red, red, red, not red, red, not red, red.

Get the screwdriver.

If you've looked around the room carefully, a screwdriver should immediately make you think "donuts!"

Use the screwdriver on the "Xmas Doughnuts" box on the bookshelf. Note the path. If needed, look at the other "Xmas Doughnuts" box on the coffee table (next to the fireplace) and note the arrangement of donuts. Combine the two boxes to figure out the left-right buttons (to the right of the brick, uh, feature, near the wall shelves).

L L L R L L R R L

Press the big red button! Oh, wait, it's not red. (What color is that?) Well, press it anyway.
The red ornament is in the niche in the new area that opened up.

Place to put the ornaments

If you turn left in the area that opened up behind the brick wall, there's a little box on the wall on the left. Hmm, I wonder what happens if I move this familiar-looking picture to the left.

Back in the main room, the picture of holly leaves has also moved to the left, to reveal four individual pictures with letters you can set. Time to examine the things with holly leaves!

1 leaf: candle in niche - Z□B
2 leaves: fruitcake (on square table) - M□O
3 leaves: wrapped present next to bookshelf - □HI
4 leaves: wine bottle next to fruitcake - D□F

Well, M is two letters from O, and D is two letters from F...

1 = A, 2 = N, 3 = G, 4 = E

Enter the letters into the corresponding pictures, then press the red button. Get the key to the front door.

Use the key to open the door, then go outside to the lovely Christmas tree. (When you're looking at the steps, hover towards the middle right to see a blue arrow.)
Look at the sign with the arrows.

First of all, get the tongs. Then, note which shape goes with each arrow.

Top left = circle, bottom left = star, bottom right = square, top right = plus.

Go back inside (you'll need to turn right) and use the tongs in the obvious place.

Get the tile from inside the fireplace. Note the sequence of shapes.

Square, circle, square, star, plus, star, circle.

Also note the red and green squares on the tile's edges; where have you seen something similar?

Use the sequence of shapes and the arrows from the sign outside to open the red/green checkerboard box on the top wall shelf.

BR TL BR BL TR BL TL

Get the gold key.

Outside again, there's a suspicious-looking mound of snow between the sign and the tree.

Use the snow shovel on the mound to reveal a box. Use the gold key to open it.

Getting out

Put the ornaments into the box. (Colorblind? Don't worry, the game won't let you put them in the wrong place.)
Pressing the buttons changes the patterns on the ornaments. (Hey cool, I want ornaments like that!) Where have you seen the patterns before?

The picture where you found the yellow ornament had all sorts of ornaments. We only need the primary-colored ones, though.

Yellow (first slot) = stars (2 clicks), red (second slot) = 3 straight stripes (3 clicks), blue (third slot) = polka dots (0 clicks. Or 5 clicks, if you're feeling motivated).

Once you have everything set correctly, press the vertical green button. Get the key card from the base of the tree.
Go back inside, then into the hallway to the left, and put the key card into the slot. Keep going down the hallway until you're out.

I'm stuck, and could use a little help please. I have

the blue and yellow ornaments, and I used the key on the little tree.

Reply

@Imzad: Take a look at the

movable arrows and line on the log.

Can you relate them at all with the

clue inside the tree?

I can't seem to interact with the logs, you do mean in ones in the fire place? Is there a certain order I need to click on them in?

I think what Jim_in_Oz was trying to indicate was that

the clue inside the Christmas tree, the snowmen figures on the tree stump/log (not the firewood, but that round thing to the right of the fireplace), and the bench under the window are all related.
