I'm starting to think we need to be a bit more careful with our mad scientists. Those that don't become menaces to society and need to be rounded up by Spider-Man generally end up messing things up one way or another anyway. Such is the case with Grandpa Clumsy (there's a red flag), whose time-traveling antics wind up setting modern history back. Way back. So it's up to his granddaughter Helen (and you!) to set things right in The Clumsys 2: Butterfly Effect, a hidden-object game about cause and effect. Or about squished butterflies and history lessons. Which are practically the same things anyway.
Like any other HOG, the game is played with the mouse. Helen will move throughout history, taking you from one hidden object scene to another. Items yet to be found are displayed at the top of the screen in blue, while undiscovered items that are black are hidden from view somehow. If your cursor turns to gears when you move past a location, that means you can click on it for a closer look.
Typically, you're trying to make sure history happens the way it should. It turns out that one dead butterfly can lead to a whole lot of missed chances. So while history's greatest minds are off presumably being wise and making big decisions, you and Helen will sneak around behind the scenes scraping mold out of their fridge or rummaging through their sock drawer. For science, of course. The puzzles are mostly limited to knowing where to use a particular item, and luckily for you, The Clumsys went to the school of logic and decided to make those solutions very straightforward. You know, in case you were sick of using a frog to churn butter or something.
Analysis: The Clumsys 2 is rather loosely based on Ray Bradbury's short story classic, "The Sound of Thunder", only with somewhat less illiteracy and doom, and a big heaping helping of good ol' fashioned edutainment. (Good for what ails ya.) It's a very friendly, colourful game with accessible gameplay, designed more to entertain than to challenge. While the hidden object scenes tend to be well done, with items all pertaining to the area and time period for once, it's unlikely that you'll ever find yourself stymied, and then not for long. The game doesn't punish for mis-clicks, and the hint timer refills very quickly.
What sets Clumsys 2 apart from many other HOGs on the market these days is a direct infusion of logic. Rather than hunting down six pinwheels, a rubber chicken, and a garden gnome to progress, you'll be hunting down the proper implements throughout history to make sure certain scenes and discoveries happen the way they should. Proving that no good deed goes unpunished, this will also occasionally make modern day objects appear that you'll need to hunt down before Ben Franklin freaks out over some ray-bans or something. You're hardly going to come out of this game ready to take on Trivial Pursuit with the best of them, but its still nice to come across a game that at least makes an effort to stimulate our oft underused gray matter.
While I never felt particularly challenged by the game, I did enjoy it, the same way I remember enjoying programs like The Magic Schoolbus or (his lordship) Bill Nye The Science Guy. Younger kids will probably get the biggest kick out of it, but it might not pack enough flash for older gamers. The only real downside other than its simplicity, which could have you whizzing through it, is that the gameplay is mostly identical to the original. Adding some different puzzles would have gone a long way towards making it feel more fresh and distinct. If you're looking for something nice and casual to take up an afternoon, The Clumsys 2: Butterfly Effect will serve that need nicely. And reminder folks; time travel is serious business and should only be attempted if you have a teenage granddaughter willing to clean up all your time-altering messes.

The Clumsy's 2: The Butterfly Effect - Walkthrough
General:
There is no time limit.
The hint will reload within a few seconds.
It will show you the area where to find the object, but not the exact place.
Whenever you are going to put an item back into the scene, look for the place where the cursor turns into gears.
Some items have to be placed in the right order.
When an item can't be placed right now, you will be told, what you have to do before.
Invention of Penicillin - Fleming's Laboratory
Follow the tutorial and find after the items from the list above.
Each founded item will go into your lower list - when it is part of something, you will see changing the numbers.
After having the saw in your inventory click the fridge in the low right corner.
Use the saw to open the fridge and find the items showing the upper list now in and outside the fridge.
Use the glove with scalpel to scrape off the mold at the upper left corner of the fridge.
Pick up the mold to get it into your inventory.
The bow belongs to the fire gadget.
Return to the main scene.
Place the four parts of the microscope at the microscope on the desk.
Click the dish you placed there in the tutorial.
A pop up window opens - place first the vial and then the mold on the dish.

Movie Projector - Cabinet of Lois Le Prince, England
Collect three of the pictures and the other available objects.
Click the small right cabinet under the desk in the back - it will move to the side and you can grab another picture.
Click the large closet at the right side - it will open and you can find a picture inside - opening the closet also caused a picture slipping down behind the painting far right next to the window.
Now you have all six pictures.
The plug will appear at the right top next to the painting and the second gear you can find inside the cabinet.
You have two hot spots in this scene.
Click the desk at the back wall and find the items from your list.
Now click the desk at the right and find all items.
The long stick is part of the gadget.
You will need the pictures from the main scene and the desk in the back as well in this scene.
Click the collected pictures onto the white spot on the desk, right side.
As soon as they are laying there the negatives will appear on the top of the device - take them.

Leave the scene and go back to the main scene.
Now use the snipper to cut away a part of the metal box at the bottom of the scene.
Place the modified fan at the left of the hole in front of the box.
The projector goes behind and behind this place the lamp.
At last drag the filmstrip onto the projector.

Now click the editing desk in the back again.
Drag the negatives on the white plate and they will spread out so you can see each of the pictures.
Your goal is to bring the pictures into a logical sequence
Look at the clock marking in the upper right corner and put each picture in order based on how far around the clock timer has gone.
Click a picture and it will go at the first empty spot seen from left to right.
Once you have all the pictures in the right order, the scene will close automatically.

Collect the items from the main scene.
To find all you will have to open the bottom drawer at the left of the big cabinet, the drawer at the right and the little door at the clock on top of the cabinet.
Click the stairs left side to enter the hot spot and find all items.
Now examine the hot spot in the kitchen (door).
To find the funnel you will need to open the right drawer.
Go back to the main scene and build the phonograph on the wooden plate already laying there.
You will have to do that in the correct order.

Look for the items on your list.
Two of them you will find when you click the lever left next to the window - the window will open the objects are on the windowsill.
Click the table at the left and look for the items there as well.

Click the metal box on the table - it is locked - use the key you found on the windowsill to open the lock.
Now you will have to place the gears.
You will have to place them from right to left in the right order, so you will have to try out, which one goes where.

Find the objects of your list.
One object you will find in the drawer, for one you will find inside the book right side of the desk.
For one of the items you will have to close your inventory bar - simply click on the gear in the middle.
Click the safe left next to the table.
Drag the hearing device from your inventory onto the metal circle top right of the safe.
The combination lock in the middle of the safe has three clickable circles.
Click one and watch the meter of the hearing device - when the needle jumps into the red, you found the right number for the dial - stop clicking.
Do this for all three circles.

When the safe opens, look for the items.
The scene will close as soon as you found all items.
Click the cabinet right side and use the key from your inventory to open it.

Build the light bulb device.
You will have to place your items in the correct order.
First the light bulb on the wooden board, now the cables to connect dynamo and bulb and the wheel at the dynamo at last.

Find the items of your list - one will behind the left door of the desk.
Click the left area of the room to find a hot spot.

After finding all, click the cables behind the Morse device.
Click the spool and the silver arm at the right side of the device, the paper at the left side.
By comparing the paper at the right side and the dots and dashes on the paper role you can spell the name SAMUEL.
Click the according letters on the paper to spell the name.

Go back to the other side.
Click on the two cable ends to connect the them.
Click on the code book to open it.
Place the spring on the spot and the coin at the right side of the device.
Place the handle in the center.
Now you will have to Morse the Word MORSE.
Find the right code in the book.
Hold the handle down for two seconds for a dash and just a quick click for a dot.

Your goal is it to fill the tank, till needle's top of the meter in the low right corner tips the blue area.

When the marble goes out the top, it evaporates and you can't use it.
When the marble goes into the wrong color funnel at the bottom or out at the top, it blow up.
When the marble goes out the right or left side, it will return from the other side of the screen.

Piano Forte - John Broadwood Company, England
Find the items from your list.
First enter the hot spot right side under the table.
Place the ladder far right - next to the closet to reach the upper loft, which is an hot an hot spot.
Climb up and look for the items of your list.
Use the crowbar to open the right crate and find a nail and a key in it.
The scene will close automatically.
Place first the metal holder and then the keys at the piano's front. Use the paint at last.

Click the carriage - you will get a closer look but to open the carriage door first drag the found handle at it.
The brick you will find low left outside the carriage.
Now find the listed items.
The scene will close automatically and you can click the tool box.
After finding all you will brought back into the main scene.
Place first the bricks under the carriage - now you can take the wheel.
Place the wheel part at the front of the bicycle, the saddle and hand rest at the middle part.

Four sulfurs can't be found yet.
There is one hot spot in this scene, the planter far left.
Click to trigger a mini game.
Your goal is it to turn the tiles in the middle row so that they all show suns, will the top and low row have to show moons.
Clicking one tile will cause reactions at other tiles as well.
You may skip the game by using the button on top.
The trunk opens - find the items from your list.

Now test the sulfur like crystals to find out which ones are really sulfur.
Place them in the fire.
Sulfur will burn with a purple flame - now you can collect the four still missing sulfur.

Back in the main scene, place the tripod with kettle on the fireplace in the middle.
Fill the shredded potash, mulch, limestone and sesame oil into the kettle.
It starts to bubble.
Place the box on the stone right side of the fire place - you will get soap.

Find all the items from your list.
You will have three hot spots in this scene.

Start with the screen and collect all items.
Choose next the Pond.
Collect all available items.
Click the lower bamboo pipe - it will move and fill the bucket with water.
Use the scythe to cut the bamboo in the back.
Now click the pot.
Pour the water from the bucket in the pot and fill in the bamboo after.
Place the firewood under the pot.
Pulp appears at the top, collect it and go back to the main scene.
Drag the frame on the table and place the pulp onto it.
You will see finest paper appear.

Find all the items from your list. Three items can't be found yet.
There are two hot spots in this scene.
A workspace right side of the kiln and the wall in the back.
Click the workspace area and find your objects there.
Once you've collected everything you can for now in this scene, close the scene, you will have to come back.
Now enter the hot spot at the wall and collect the items from your list.
Use the shovel to dig the dirt pile left side.
You will need to click again to collect the sand.
After finding the last item the scene will close automatically.
In the main scene put the saltwort in the fire right side - click again to collect the ash.
Use the dagger at the bright wall left side to get limestone.
Click the kiln door to open and put there the ash, lime stone and sand.
Now click on the Kiln door to open it if you haven't already.
Glass will flow out on the front of the kiln, click to collect it.

Click on the workspace to enter it.
Put the glass blowing materials on the counter - this will trigger a mini-game.
Click the white arrow to get the glass flowing inside the bottle form.
The glass will start to rise inside the form.
Your goal is it to keep the yellow line inside the glass inside the white outlines of the glass form.
To do so keep clicking and stop clicking the white arrow - take care about the changing shape of the glass.
Clicking too fast the line will expand to far horizontally, breaking the form and you will have to try again.
Clicking not fast enough the glass will cool down and stop rising - you will have to try again.
You want to make 3 glasses to complete the mini game.

There are two hot spots - one at the sacks left side, one at the boat low right.
Enter both areas and find all items there as well.
Use the knife to cut the sack open, left side.
Place the hammer into the hole of the log.
Now get the shovels out of the inventory and close the inventory bar.
Place the shovels in the water.

Collect the items from your list - one item can't be found yet.
There are two hot spots in the scene - one at the crate left side and one at the stair far middle.
Enter the one at the crate first and collect all items.
Now click the stairs and collect the items there as well.
To get the 12 pieces of iron use the pick axe from your inventory at the rock with the red lines.
Stones will fall to the ground - collect the ones with the red spot on.
Back in the main scene put the iron and the charcoal into the kiln.
Use the bricks to close it.
Place the bellows at the wooden stand right next to the kiln.
Melted iron will come out of the kiln - collect it.
Place the melted iron onto the big stone low left and use the hammer with it.

Collect the items from your list - one item can't be found yet.
There are two hot spots in the scene - the boulder in the middle and the well at the right.
Click first the boulder - to see all items use the hand spike to lift the bolder.
Collect all items and move on to the well.
Use the crank at the top of the well to repair it. The bucket will come up, providing you a part of the tablet.
You will be brought back to the main scene automatically.
Use the knife to cut a part of the bamboo in front of the well.
Now the invention is complete, place it on the ground.

Now click the window - to open it, use the pincers from your inventory.
When you found place in the main scene the pully at the wooden bar.
Put the rope around the stone roll.
Give the apple to the ox to make him push the roll.

After finding all use the found goblet with the water bucket left side.
Click the filled goblet and inside the inventory it will combine automatically with the grain meal. You now have dough.

Click the shovel in the middle of the heap to dig two shelves.
Place the fire wood in the lower shelf first, the dough in the upper shelf afterwards.

Place the wheels at the table next to the house and put the clay on the now spinning wheel.
A vase appears - collect it.
Place the vase in the upper opening of the kiln, the fire woods in the lower opening.

Find all items from your list.
There is only one hot spot in this scene, the bearskin on the ground.
Click it and find the objects of your list.
Back in the main scene first drag the rope and burnt wood at the left part of the wheel barrow to draw a circle, then the chisel to get the wheel.

Now find the improper items.
Improper items are to find in the main scene and the hot spots.
The first Boat, Riverbank on some unknown continent
Find all items from your list - the fish skeleton can't be found yet.
There are two hot spots in the scene - the hut in the back and the stone plate low left (close the inventory bar to have easier access).
Find all items in both hot spots.
Back in the main scene - put the cherries into the water right side.
You will need to look carefully - a fish will come along - click to catch it.
The fish skeleton will appear on the stone low right corner - collect it.
Use the axe to cut the big branch left side of the tree, it falls down.
You do not have to collect it - just drag your remaining inventory items to the branch to build the boat.

Now find the improper items.

Find all items of your list. One item can't be found yet.
There is one hot spot, the altar in the back.
Look for all items there as well.
Back in the main scene use the axe to cut the branch far left.
Collect the branch and click the lever from your inventory at the bolder right side - click again to trigger a mini game.
You need to figure out what combination of the stones available in the scene will balance the big stone so you can lift it.
When you don't use enough weight, you can't lift it.
When you use too much weight, the lever will break and you'll have to start over.
Click the orange Arrow when you want to test your solution.
There might be several solution possible, the screenshot shows one.

Now you will have to place the stone into their according slots.
