author_tucker.gifturningburning.gifFor those of you who haven't been keeping up with my adventures, my name is Tom "Tucker" Crubucker, recent graduate of Zibward Wizard School and flagship character for a company by the name of Zibumi. Man, I hate public speaking... SonicLover asked me to tell everyone about my latest adventure, Turning Burning, in his place.

Anyways, Turning Burning is the third in Zibumi's Tom "Tucker" Crubucker series of games, so named because it's about a clumsy nerd by the name of Tom "Tucker" Crubucker. I've been told that the first two games, The Final Spell and Little Hostage, have already been reviewed here on JIG, so it's only fitting that my third should follow suit.

After a brief intro scene, Turning Burning picks up where Little Hostage left off. I've just escaped the room I was trapped in, and confront the mastermind behind it, a bizarre prince who asks me to rescue his rose, which has been stolen by a sheep. Of course it's not as easy as taking it from the sheep and putting it back in the pot; I have to make sure the sheep doesn't get it back.

Don't worry if that doesn't seem like enough. After I manage to escape, I end up in yet another puzzle-filled room. You know the type: you have to pick up items and solve all sorts of puzzles in a room nobody would design in real life, with the ultimate goal of escaping from it. As with my last two games, you use items by clicking first on them and then the environment, and you learn a bit about them by turning on the magnifying glass and clicking them.

Alright, now SonicLover gave me this to read... ahem...

"Analysis: Turning Burning (why the heck did they name it that?) feels like a step forwards AND a step back. It seems that Zibumi hasn't quite gotten that perfect balance yet. The difficulty of the game has been reduced a bit too much; it's definitely not as hard or deep as Little Hostage was. That makes it a bit boring. On the other hand, it has a bit of replay value thanks to a few things. The ending changes depending on... well, I don't know what it depends on, but I've seen a few different endings, and it seems to change every day. I've also noticed some variations in the clues for one or two puzzles.

All the same, Turning Burning is worth playing, even if it's a bit disappointing when compared to Little Hostage."

Play Turning Burning

And don't forget to play the previous games in the TTC series as well.

...Okay, that's all, I guess. Can I go to the bathroom now?

Hey, how do I actually 'get' the glass? when I use the knife on the cooled down glass on the metal rod, They just throw away the glass.

Reply

Reece

You have to hold down the mouse on the end of the rod to "blow the glass"...the glass will blow up to a shape that fits your inventory when it's done.

I almost have the whole thing I'm just missing

the key and the note.
I think the key is in the safe and that the note gives you the combination, but i can't find the note

Reply

Jim

The note can be found on the bookshelf among the green books. Can't quite see what to do with it yet, but I hope that helps.

Reply

Jasper (and Jim):

Put the note on the burner.

Reply

do you need to do something to the

note before putting it on the burner?

i can't get it to go there when i click on it

Reply

okay so

I opened the safe, but the note inside isn't much help...

Reply

Thanks, kowala! I had tried that before, but I was

Clicking the note against the flame and the top of it, instead of the burner itself.

Fun little escape series :).

Reply

okay so

I opened the safe but the note inside isn't helping much.

Reply

@zach

when it says the alphabet of matter its talking about a "list" of what makes up all matter, kind of like the letters of the alphabet make up all the words in languages

hope that helps

Reply

Ok... *curses* I'm a little stuck on where to go.

Made it to part two.

Put the Blue and red flame thingy's where they belong.
Got the glove sticky.
Melted the candle.
Has the tape, pan, oil, and matches. Can't find the key, the combo for the safe, the note, the block, or anything else. Kinda hit a dead end after melting the candle, and oiling the water, and filling the Vase

Can anyone help me?

Reply

Zach & Jim

The place where the key is changes for every game. Mine was in the "Little Prince" Book.

BTW SonicLover, I think the game is called Turning Burning because:
1 - Many of the puzzles involve lighing something on fire
2- There's a lot of spinning around to different sides of the room like most escape the room genres and
3- It rhymes :)

Now if anyone can explain the ending to me I'd be much obliged!

Reply

@Ashiel

for the block:

Use the gloves to lift the cactus.

for the note:

look at the green books in the bookcase

@Jim
I guess the note says a different thing each time.
i accidentally restarted and it said something different the second time.

Reply

I beat it but the ending made no sense to me.

I couldn't click anything on the final screen? Just a man sitting on a stool? I let it sit for a minute or two but nothing happened.

Reply

Zach, Jim: My guess is

the note says different things on different plays.

My note said something about "four seasons, 12 months, that's what it measures." When I clicked on the calendar, I got the key.

Reply

Mark, there's nothing to click. A little odd what happened (didn't happen) for you.

When I got to the end screen, the boy came out after a few seconds, the man on the stool said something about how the boy was drawn, and he said "Did she draw me cross-eyed again?" Kind of meta, I suppose, but not very interesting.

Reply

@zach
your right it does change this time my safe note said something about seasons and months

Reply

What are the upside down and right-side up triangles about?
Could they

indicate how to figure out the shapes puzzle for safe code?

Reply

Thank you. Those two hints... Did it. I figured it all out from there.

Reply

Can anyone help me with the note?

It reads moon + star, triangle - @, @ + moon, and star - triagle. And for some reason I can't seem to figure out how many of each of those symbols is in the room.

Reply

I'm a bit confused.

I've found the keyhole; I've found the pattern of symbols on the blank page; I've even found the symbols around the room. I just have absolutely no idea how to translate those symbols/their colors to the safe combination.

Reply

Can't figure out what to do with the

Bell!

!

Reply

@ tiberius: I am stuck on the same puzzle but think it has something to do with the periodic table, I just dont know how that converts to numbers

Reply

Tiberius:
what you have to do is

count the number of each symbol in the room, then plug them into the math problems to get the combination

Reply

the code to the safe is made of

the number of stars, moons, triangles, and spirales that have been calculated with the code yo found in the note you hited with the burner, the top calculation is the first on the left of safe and so on

Reply

I also got a paper with various symbols...

1. moon+star, 2. triangle-swirl, 3. swirl+moon, 4 star-triangle

so I think you need to count the amount of these symbols around the room then add or subtract those numbers

Reply

the number of triangles is including the

white triangle on the corner of calendar

Reply

can't get him to blow the glass... keep getting the message "not enough blowing, my friend"

Reply

nevermind, got it ^^

Reply

It is the

number of the moons that I am struggling with.

Reply

BMB,

There is one moon - around the end of a screwdriver

I keep getting the "evil eye bead" when trying to make glass in the first part--what am I doing wrong?

Reply

I'm hopelesly confuzzled. I have no clue what you guys mean by put note on burner. Does it mean note from bookshelf? If so, I've turned on the burner and put the paper at burner and it just says it's a blank paper. :(

thanks charvel ^^

Ahhh, I love The Little Prince!

"Of course I love you," the flower said to him. "It is my fault that you have not known it all the while. That is of no importance. But you--you have been just as foolish as I. Try to be happy . . . Let the glass globe be. I don't want it any more."

Reply

riv,

are you clicking the hole near the hand, and holding it?

Loomo

yeah that note, put it on..

the flame for it to work

Reply

The number of stars/triangles/moons/swirlies is different each game, so the code is as well.

Reply

I see the walkthrough has been pinned even though I pointed out that the code in it isn't any use as it changes from game to game.

Reply

Nope, it's either "not enough blowing my friend" or the "evil eye bead" when I hold my mouse down longer.

I'm playing this on Linux--maybe that's the problem? Should I be hearing any kind of sound after the intro?

Reply

I'm having the same problem as riv: I keep getting evil eye beads instead of bells. If I click it too short it says "not enoug blowing," and if I hold it down longer, stupid bead. I'm playing on a Mac, using Firefox.

Reply

Just for anyone not familiar with the story of The Little Prince, you can read it here:

http://wikilivres.info/wiki/The_Little_Prince

Reply

irritatingly, it's hard to tell if some things are intended as symbols or scenery.

Reply

For those having trouble with the blank note:

You have to click the note, then the actual burner itself (the grey part). Don't try to put the note on the stand above the flame. Don't try and click the flame. Don't try and put the bowl on the stand, then put the paper in it. Don't try to soak the note in water, then burn it. Don't try the oil. Don't go crazy like me!

Reply

What is the little red object that is sticking out of the candle. I'm not able to light the candle on the plate, but I don't seem to find anything to get it out. Any suggestions?

Reply

King of Town,
my only trouble with it is that i cannot find it... charvel also mentions it in his WT, but sadly seems to make no reference to how to obtain it in the first place :)

Reply

Since someone wrote it down in a comment - without putting it bween spoiler tags, congrats, chap... - I learned where to find the note. And I've been trying to do with it what the walkthru says I should. To no avail. Is it kinda pixel hunting part, or what?

Reply

OK, this part with the note was the final kick. This game is bad. Unimaginative, not interesting and, on top of it all, pixel hunting.

No thanx.

Reply

Just a few words about the title: Zibumi people are Turkish. Turning burning is a loose translation of the Turkish title of the game, which actually means 'blow hot and cold'. That's obviously done intentionally, not by mistake, since there are other such translation-vise funny phrases throughout the game (and also other games by Zibumi). For example Tom Tucker Crobucker's pronouncation sounds like a Turkish idiom which means empty (as in empty pocket, empty house, empty refrigerator).

Reply

Huh--I got a different ending than the above person did.

I my case, the kid came out of the door, looked at the old guy for a few moments, then someone yelled 'Cut! Cut!' and the kid commented about hurting his head during the crash scene. Very..odd.

Reply

It took me some time but lighting the was very touchy. You have to do it just right for the flame to light. And for breaking the plate, I didn't have to win the game. So if you can't break it's not a big deal. For finding the key, I don't know I just started clicking places at the bookcase and it appeared at the bottom of the items it didn't tell me I found it. Good Luck.

Reply

URGH. I'm having the same problem as riv, I'm holding on to where I'm supposed to be holding on, but all I get are evil eye beads.. help? :] <3

Reply

For people having trouble with evil eye beads:

that's the beginning stage of the bell. Keep holding your mouse button down and it should keep changing!

Reply

I got the ending where he walks out of the store and there is an old guy in front of a sign that reads "Store for Sale". The guy asks him to tell his story and Tom says something along the lines of, Okay I guess I have enought time until the next episode comes out.

What?

Reply

I got an ending that, when he walked out of the door a sign said "Store for Sale" and after staring at the guy sitting there, the kid says "Can I go home now?"

Reply

Just had to say, I was positively delighted by some of the atmosphere text in the first part! I had taken the rose from the sheep and thought I could just give it to the Prince. Not so easy, but then someone started singing "They call me the Wild Rose, but my name was Elisa Day..."

I love Nick Cave and my boyfriend and I have declared "Where the Wild Roses Grow" to be "our song." (Yes, we're weird, but mostly harmless.)
