The Wheel of Time turns, and days come and pass, and before you know it, it's Wednesday again and time for Weekday Escape. It's been a while since you escape game aficionados and I had a chat, so I knocked Elle over the head with a sock full of pennies and left her tied up in a room with a goldfish, a screwdriver, a ticket stub, some coloured plates, Gumby fanfiction, and the jumbled sonnets of a 14th century unknown poet. None of those will actually get her out in any combination, but she doesn't know that, so I've bought you and I a few hours together at least. So what's new? How do you like the new Doctor? Is that a new shirt? Do you want to look at my pony collection? What should we order on our pizza?... man, you don't even care, do you? You just want the games. No, no. It's fine. It's not like I count the minutes until we're together again. Have some Gotmail, Yomino Kagura, and some Choko Chai. Good thing game reviewers don't have feelings or anything.
Closed Train - You doze off on the subway coming home late one night and come awake to find yourself all alone, trapped inside, with only blackness pressing against the windows. It sounds like the plot of a Silent Hill knock-off, but it's actually an escape game by Gotmail. There's no changing cursor to highlight interactive zones, so you'll have to click everywhere, and you'll likely get tired of the "I should look somewhere else" message fairly quickly, but scour the seats and your surroundings and you'll find clues to help you escape. You know, into that "pressing darkness". No, it's cool. You probably won't be eaten by a grue.
Picture of Sea Room Escape - Some people appreciate a good minimalist design when they're decorating, but Yomino Kagura takes it to the extreme by trapping you somewhere even some monks would probably tell you could do with a throw rug and some books or something. The cursor will change to mark interactive zones as you click around, though the text isn't in English, so you'll have to come up with your own descriptions when you click things. "Someone wrapped some twine around the handles." "This is the worst couch anyone has ever conceived." "Seriously would it kill you to put in a TV or maybe some magazines?" Keep your eyes peeled for clues and colours, and you'll be out in no time.
Shokora Shut in the Tower - If you want your escape games adorable, Choko-Chai should probably be on speed dial, and their three fuzzy feline heroes are at it again when a witch captures one of them and locks Shokora away in a forest tower. Which actually makes a lot of sense, since any cat owner will tell you that sometimes it seems cats just vanish for a while into pocket dimensions only to materialize around dinner, so a witch is as good an explanation as any. Travel up and down the tower solving puzzles and finding clues, and remember you can actually use the cats themselves by clicking the kitten picture to get past certain obstacles!
Walkthrough Guide
(Please allow page to fully load for spoiler tags to be functional.)
Since no one else has posted one, and it was fairly simple, I thought I'd take a crack at a walkthrough for the Picture of Sea Room Escape! It's my first one, so I hope it's okay.
Looking Around
The wall we start at has the locked door, a cabinet and a picture with the caption ALL SEA under it. Let's call this Wall 1. If you zoom in on the picture, you will notice that it moves when you click on corners. The cabinet has 3 sets of cupboards that can't open yet. The first one has a diamond with 3 coloured buttons (red, blue, yellow). The second one is held shut with some wire, and the third one requires a number code, with the hint of red circle + blue circle at the bottom.
Hit the right arrow to take us to Wall 2. Here we have a shelf with a set of coloured diamonds, and below it a desk with a musical note on it. Take a mental note of the direction the note is facing. That's it for this wall.
Right again, and we come to Wall 3. We have a blue couch to our left, which you can click once to zoom in on, and click again to see that there is something underneath it, but out of our reach. Zoom out, and click on the bin in the right corner. There is the number 100 in a blue circle. Remember that!
Go right once more, and we come to Wall 4. It's simply a large cupboard that is locked. We can't do anything here yet.
Okay, time to start solving!
Diamond Cupboard
First thing we can solve is the diamond cupboard from Wall 1. The colours are red, blue and yellow. Where have we seen diamonds of those colours?
On Wall 2, that's where. The diamonds tell you the order in which you need to press the buttons on the cupboard door.
That's Red, Blue, Yellow, Blue, Blue, Red
(For the colourblind, assume the buttons are numbers 1, 2 and 3, so the sequence would be: 1, 2, 3, 2, 2, 1)
Open up the cupboard and grab the red circle piece inside!
The Number Code Cupboard
The next puzzle to solve is the cupboard with the number code, which is the one on the very end. Your clue is a red circle plus a blue circle. Where have you seen those shapes?
The blue circle is on the inside of the bin on Wall 3. The number is 100. Now where do we see a red circle?
It's right in your inventory. Click the circle piece, then About Item, and click on it. It should flip over to reveal the number 28.
Now just input the code based on the clue!
That's 100+28 = 128
Grab the key inside, and we can move on to the next puzzle!
The Cupboard and the Picture
Well, this key can only be for one thing, and that's the big cupboard on Wall 4, so go unlock it.
Okay, inside we have a square on the wall with letters arranged like this:
S E
A L
We also have a stick thing that we can pick up, as well as the blue and white checkered box with three different shaped holes in it. Since we're done with it, let's put the red circle piece in its hole.
Okay, so where have we seen the letters on the wall?
Under the picture on Wall 1! ALL SEA. The letters on the wall correspond to the four corners of the picture, and ALL SEA tells you the order to click on them.
If you're stumped, think of the corners of the picture numbered like this:
1 2
3 4
The correct order is 3, 4, 4, 1, 2, 3
The picture will move out of the way, and you can pick up the pliers that are in the alcove behind the picture. Next puzzle!
The Music Note Table
Well, let's open that last cupboard in the cabinet on Wall 1. Use the pliers on the handles to open it.
There's a bunch of musical notes, some facing to the left, some to the right. Do you remember which way the note on the table we saw in Wall 2 was facing?
It's facing to the right.
The table on Wall 2 has a code that requires 3 different colours. Input the correct colour order using the clue we just uncovered.
Just pick out the notes facing to the right. The code will be Blue, Green, Yellow
Grab the triangular piece. We're almost there!
Getting Out
Okay, we have the triangle and the circle piece for the box, but are missing the square piece. Where else do we know an item was hidden that we might be able to get now?
Go back to the couch on Wall 3, click on it twice and use the stick thing we found to obtain the square piece.
Now we simply put those two remaining shapes in the box (the one in the cupboard on Wall 4) and open it up. A key! Only one last place to use this...
Go use it on the door... clear! You made it!
