Weekday Escape

elleSo much about life is uncertain, each day so new and full of possibilities, it's impossible to imagine what could be next. If you're the anxious sort of individual, you might be a little rattled by how little time is actually under our control. But not today, my friend. Today you have Weekday Escape; here you are the master of your domain—the room in which you are captive. And the three free escape games we have for you this week are as comforting in their predictability while still being just fresh enough and creative enough to whisk you away from all your other worries. If you have a few minutes to spare, then indulge in the sweet goodness awaiting in FunkyLand's fruit kitchen, pause for halftime in Hottategoya's strange locker room, then finish by puzzling over Yomino Kagura's three pictures...

Escape from the Strange Locker Room 2Escape from the Strange Locker Room 2 - Hottategoya's usual formula—three puzzles, clues embedded in the furnishings, overall minimalist design—is all over this space. There's actually very little strange about this room except how you keep getting locked up in here. Usually all the fun is out on the playing field, but when you don't have more than five minutes to spare, you've come to the right place. While the cursor is unchanging, there's no hidden hotspots and most everything you need to escape is right out in the open. Added to a clean design and straight-forward logic, that means you'll be done here in no time.

Fruit Kitchens No.11: Pineapple YellowFruit Kitchens No.11: Pineapple Yellow - For the love of all that's yellow and sweet, you haven't tasted a truly delicious pineapple unless you've stood under the Hawaiian sun at the local's farmer market and eaten your fresh find right then and there. Moreover, you haven't indulged in a truly funky escape until you've been inside one of FunkyLand's whimsical kitchens. So much of the enjoyment is in gazing at the clever decor and creative clue presentation, you might get sidetracked and take longer than needed to solve puzzles and gather the seven prickly fruits needed to escape. It's all as you'd expect a FunkyLand kitchen to be as far as aesthetics, but there's nothing overly surprising about the puzzles and they're easier than most, just remember to look everywhere for clues and places to use your inventory.

Escape from the Room of Three PicturesEscape from the Room of Three Pictures - In some regards, if you've seen one Yomino Kagura escape, you've them all. Yet there's something appealing about them all the same, made for the room escape enthusiast who is short on time but appreciative of pure puzzle solving. Armed with a willingness to infer and a few maths skills, make full use of the changing cursor to uncover active areas where you'll find coded locks and the hints that help you open them. When you've put all the pieces together, your escape is nearby. Note: some knowledge of or the ability to translate katakana lettering is needed to access certain clues.

We love escape games, and our readers love talking about them and sharing hints! How about you? Let us know what you think, ask for clues, or help out other players in the comments below.

Left Locker Puzzle (2x3 array of buttons)

Look at the lockers labeled with Roman Numerals, I, II, III, IV, V, and VI (1-6). Each of the 6 lockers in the 2x3 array is associated with a roman numeral. To figure it out, see which locker is open when the roman numeral appears.

For example, the first one, I, is the top right.

The others are:

4 is top left, 6 is top middle, 5 is bottom left, 3 is bottom middle, and 2 is bottom right.

The numbers indicate the order that you click the black buttons in the Left Locker Puzzle.

Middle Locker Puzzle (black lines)

The middle locker has a set of lines with a arrow indicating order. the first one is very low, then low then high then low then high, then very high. This one refers to the set of 4 lockers, where the leftmost (A) has a low shelf. Next to it, B, is a locker with a very high shelf. Then (C) a very low shelf, and last a high shelf D. So the lockers A, B, C, and D, have levels 3,1,4,2. So to unlock the middle locker, the order to open those four locker is

Right Locker Puzzle (3x3 array of buttons)

This is a map of the tables. The corner with only 2 tables is fixed, constraining the orientation.

The corner with 2 tables is the top left, and should be vertical. The other (parallel) vertical sets are: middle right and bottom middle. The rest are perpendicular (horizontal).

Fruit Kitchens No. 11: Pineapple Yellow Walkthrough

Pineapple locations, starting with the table and going clockwise around the room.

1.

Table

The poor pineapple has been encased in clay. If only you could break the clay somehow. (Apparently, the knife that is Right. There. is not a suitable tool.)

Use the mallet, which you can find wedged into the handle of the drawer under the stove.

2.

Behind the frog

Before you zoom in, you can sort of see that there's a clue for this on the left side of the frog's base, but once you've zoomed in it's a bit of a pixel hunt.

Orange 4, green 1, blue 2 - move the sliders on the board above the frog accordingly. (Colorblind: 241) If you get it right, the sign at the top will show a pineapple and the word OPEN.

3.

Fridge

No puzzling with this one, just open the refrigerator.

4.

Back corner of the kitchen counter

The box needs a knob, which you can get from the frog.

This time, the code is green 4, blue 3, orange 2 (colorblind: 324). If you get it right, the sign at the top will show a frog and the word OPEN.

Put the knob into the box and click it twice: once to retrieve the "+" part of it that you will need elsewhere, and once to actually open the box.

5.

Canned whole pineapple, get your canned whole pineapple here (to the left of the stove)

Seriously, what's the point of putting a whole, fresh pineapple in a can? No matter, the can opener is right there on the window ledge.

6.

Caged pineapple? Really, now, who does these things?

Look at the small vertical box between the stove and the butcher-block table. Open the top door and do some math.

Put the knob with the "+" sign into the slot, then press two numbers that complete the equation.

You can choose any two different numbers in any order, as long as they add up to six: 1+5, 5+1, 4+2, or 2+4. (3+3 won't work because you can't pick 3 twice.)

Don't forget to press OK.

7.

Look out the window

Open the back right window, above the butcher-block table. Pick the pineapple. (Uh, someone needs to study up on their pineapple horticulture.)

For the rby box in 3 pics you need to be able to read the japanese on the pic of the flowers apparently its

Thanks, stupidcheeseboy...I was stuck at that point and wondering if that might be the case. It's a flaw that I wouldn't have expected from this developer, especially since the text can't be copied and pasted into a translator.

Reply

I would not have expected to see a game with a language barrier featured on JIG, not even in Weekday Escape. The review doesn't mention anything about a language problem. Is there maybe a translated version of the Three Pictures game which the reviewer played, but the wrong version was linked to accidentally?

In Three Pictures solved all but wobble picture. What was supposed to be a clue?

Forgot about left box puzzle, too

I'm stuck on Fruit Escape with one left to find. I've figured out

behind frog, in can, addition puzzle, table sculpture, outside window, fridge

And I don't have any items I can use. Help!

Reply

The only one you don't mention is the one

in the mini-fridge-shaped box on the back corner of the kitchen counter, but I can't imagine how you would have missed that one but gotten the math puzzle one - you need to put the knob from the frog into that box to end up with the piece that you then use for the math puzzle.

Reply

There's also the one on the kitchen counter where the eggs, milk and other ingredients are.

On the window sill there is a

can opener.

One of the ingredients there is a can of pineapple. Which you can now open.

Oh, wow, you're right. I actually made a pretty dumb mistake there.

I put the knob in then completely forgot about the cupboard in order to go do the addition puzzle. Never even thought to come back and actually open the stupid thing.

For those having problems with the middle locker puzzle:

Don't trust the lines in the view with the three cupboards. The middle locker is missing one line which you can only see when you zoom in on it.

And Reka, there have been lots of language barrier games posted and reviewed on JIG over the years. Not an uncommon occurence at all.

Don't give up too quickly on the katakana puzzle.

You don't have to know anything at all about those squiggles to notice that

some of them repeat.

In fact, there are pairs that repeat.

Taking the pairs as single items, you have A-B-B-(non-repeated)-A-B.

After a glance around the room, you'll know that

this clue has to do with the three-button box sitting between two flower vases.

Red button, blue button, yellow button, and a sequence with three elements. Hmm.

Even without knowing which element is which color, you've narrowed it down to six possibilities

-- and under the circumstances, I'd say there's no dishonor in brute-forcing it from there!

FunkyLand is always a favourite, and I enjoyed this one a bunch! Escape from the Room of Three Pictures caught me out with that last clue in Japanese, otherwise it was easy enough to follow. I am surprised at the clue, given how popular these escape games are with English-speakers too! Though as MrsRavoon says, it can be inferred with a little bit of code-breaker logic (I was pretty stumped and just found the translation here).

I started the Locker Room, but the puzzles look a little more involved than I'm willing to be over my lunch break, so evening entertainment it is!

Reply

i can't solve the right locker

even with the walkthrough i'm confused. can anyone explain it better or at least post a picture solution?

Reply

Unless things have changed since yesterday, there is no language barrier for the right picture in Three Picture Room. The code is

on the cardkey!

Reply

Oops - sorry - I was confused. You do need the second code.

Paul,

To open the right locker, you need rotate the squares to reflect the orientation of the benches in the room. The benches all come in groups of three, except for (helpfully) the top left grouping, which only has two, and thus gives you a starting point.

elle, thanks for posting my fruit kitchens walkthrough, but I'm puzzled why you didn't post 5un5's locker room walkthrough at the same time? It's the first comment in this thread. (Granted, it's not labeled as a walkthrough, so if you're just scanning, it can look like three random spoilers.)

How do you get into the middle locker? I have the screwdriver, now what?

To open the middle locker,

you need to go mess around with a completely different sent of lockers.

Three Pictures walkthrough:
This is a partial walkthrough. One puzzle requires knowledge of the language to read the text on one of the pictures; I stumbled across the correct solution...

General:

You begin the game facing the door. To your right are three pictures, and to your left are three boxes.

Each box is solved with the information across from it.

There is a final box opposite the door with the traditional slots for circle, square, and triangle.

Nearest pair (to the door):

The picture has numbers from one to six in either red or blue color.

The box has a red and blue button. I wonder what order you click the buttons in...

red, red, blue, blue, red, blue. For those with problems seeing colors:

right, right, left, left, right, left

Take the screwdriver from the box. Where have you recently seen something secured with screws?

Aha; the picture of course. Remove the screws and take the red circle.

Middle pair:

A lovely picture of the moon, with a star and crescent in the upper left corner. A convenient sign identifies that it is indeed The Moon in colored letters.

The picture wobbles when you click the corners, but you can't solve that part yet.

The box across from it (also marked with a star and crescent) takes a three color combination.

The box has the letters "ONE" mounted to the top.

The letters O, N and E all appear in the words "The Moon".

Note the colors of those letters in the sign and set the combination on the box to match.

Green, Yellow, Blue. For those with problems seeing colors:

On the combination, Click the first position 3 times, the second position 2 times, and the third position 1 time

The box will unlock. Take the room keycard.

Farthest pair (from the door):

The picture has two roses and characters that I can't read. I *assume* they give the solution to the box

The box across from it has three buttons: red, blue and yellow.

Click the buttons in the right order.

yellow, blue, blue, red, yellow, blue. For those with difficulty seeing colors:

Right, center, center, left, right, center

Take the note and examine it. Do the letters look familiar?

Middle Pair part 2:

Return to The Moon picture. Click the corners in the order dictated by the letters on the note.

bottom right, upper left, upper right, bottom right, bottom right, bottom right, bottom left.

The picture will lift. Take the blue square.

Farthest pair part 2:

Note the combination below the picture of the two pink roses. Nothing works, but there's a slot for a card.

Insert the card. The digits are different colors: blue, white and yellow. Seen those colors anywhere?

Back up to retrieve the keycard and examine it. Anything useful here?

five blue circles, one white circle and two yellow circles.

Return to the picture, re-insert the keycard and enter the code.

512

Back up and click on the picture. The picture will lift. Take the yellow triangle.

Finale:

Move to the final box on the wall below the windows.

Place the circle, square and triangle in the obvious positions.

Click on the box lid. It will open. Take the key.

Gee; I wonder what you might want to do with a key....
