Wolf's BaneArceusIf you've browsed JiG frequently over the past year, you might have stumbled across my reviews of some of VasantJ's games, including the Medieval Cop and Medieval Angel Series. From this same creator comes another game of the same sort, a spinoff around the beloved, slightly-more-positive-than-Dregg (who are we kidding, that description is pretty empty!) detective Amber Heart. Starting with the innocuous enough premise "A flock of sheep walk into a bar," VasantJ soon tosses us into the newly 3D-rendered world of Amber Heart conducting an interrogation at a murder scene. It seems she's hellbent on using some techniques that would scare the daylights (or a confession) out of anyone!

Wolf's Bane, like many of VasantJ's works, begins with a somewhat tangential introduction, detailing the story of a sheep who tried to walk into a bar. But as he was laughing and drinking will his fellow sheep, the bartender took note of something and asked him to leave. When he insisted on knowing why, the bartender told him simply that they do not serve wolves in sheep's clothing. And then, as quickly as it began, the background fades, and you find yourself with a case to solve!

Starting with the grizzly scene of the victim mauled in front of their very own fireplace in front of the chimney, Ada knows at once who the unidentified victim must be. Santa Claus! Just kidding, that attempt to lighten the mood didn't work out so brilliantly. It's going to be a bit more difficult than you thought to piece together the identity, the motive, and the culprit. All this is despite the fact that a man has turned himself in already in the morning as the guilty party, and the soldiers so far seem somewhat satiated with his explanations. Is he really the one responsible? In order to serve justice, you'll have to check it out thoroughly to verify things!

I enjoyed the storyline and the jokes as always with VasantJ's creations. As per usual, the grammar and sometimes spelling is a bit rough around the edges, but it's nothing insurmountable. You can save your progress, which you might choose to do occasionally lest you make a few wrong guesses at critical points and deplete your health. There's also a handy chapter select on top of it to pick up at a certain part of the story, or play a given part over again should you wish to do so.

As usual, use [Enter] or [Z] to advance dialogue or to speak with people around the crime scene. Left-click objects with the mouse to interact with them, and use [WASD] or the arrow keys to move around the area. You can also press [Esc] to bring up the main menu to save and access additional settings. With that I'll leave you to it, and oh remember, you can't have slaughter without laughter!

I'm missing the top right clue. (This is why you should never be the first to play these games, no walkthroughs)
