Nimian Flyer Legends is a 3D action adventure game by Protopop Games. You play the role of a young dragon named Salamond on a quest to defeat seven legendary beasts. Armed with fire-breath and the ability to pick up many objects, you'll have to use your speed and wits to battle each unique foe. Nimian Flyer Legends has a remarkably full 3D world to explore coupled with a grand soundtrack. It's a surprisingly lengthy game that feels more like an epic journey than a pick-up-and-play flash title.
Nimian Flyer Legends borrows many ideas from the PlayStation 2 game Shadow of the Colossus but with a very different flavor. Each boss you fight has a unique pattern and weaknesses. Sometimes all you have to do is maneuver close and use your fire breath to win but this isn't always true. Many battles feature a series of speed rings that you must fly through in order to remain near the enemy. None of the fights are particularly difficult, but they do offer enough variety to keep you craving more. The focus is more on action than strategy, so reflexes play a large part in defeating each foe. Stay on your toes and balance attack, defense and recovery methods in order to prevail.
The pacing of Nimian Flyer Legends is a very important part of the experience. After each battle you'll spend several minutes flying through open terrain. You can use this time to eat bugs that restore health and fire breath, kick back and enjoy the scenery, or just burn everything you see. It offers a break from the big battles and also fleshes out the game, giving the illusion of a huge world to traverse.
Nimian Flyer Legends is a long, satisfying flash adventure that quenches your thirst for fantasy gaming. The dramatic presentation does a great job of drawing you in, and I found myself wanting to keep playing just to see what beautiful scenery would unfold next. Fortunately the game has an auto-save feature, so you can stop at any time and pick up where you left off. Play.
If you like Nimian Flyer Legends, try Nimian Hunter, also from Protopop.
This is cool 3d emulation. Game it's self confusing.
I played this a while back when the other Nimian game was posted... Was good, impressive 3D implementation, not good to play on a broken wrist though...

There is an amazing amount of intriguing background material to explore on the Protopop web site. It seems that the creator has entire worlds and some epic tales in his head, much like Tolkien. At this stage the connections between the various pieces of information presented are far from obvious to the reader - and maybe from the author too - but as more is gradually added it may eventually become clear. Fascinating! And games are good too. - John

The progress from his first creations is very big. He will make a great game maybe not in flash.
Ahhh... I played this ages ago on newgrounds. Beautiful game, wonderfully done and such.
Glad to see this getting a review. One of my favourite games on his site!
i felt nimian hunter was a tighter game than this one, though i did enjoy it, and appreciate the deeper story arc. the flying annimation was fun and the world incredible, but it got a bit repetitive after a while. the graphics were a bit jumpy, esp for a game that relies on aiming. while you're flying, trees would appear out of nowhere. by the end i felt a bit nauseated. and what is up with the speed rings? everything else in the game was smoothly integrated into the world - the glow bugs that give you strength, etc, but the speed rings were just a device to make salamond go faster, not disguised in the mask of the world.
annepin - yeah I agree on the speed rings, they do seem out of place...
I think the speed rings are from one of his older, more sci-fi games. However, the rest of the game was good. Each boss had a unique puzzle you needed to figure out to defeat him. By the way, I loved picking up the bomb-berries and lighting the entire landscape on fire.
I LOOVED nimian hunter and am very impressed with this. There is some depth in this game that, even without reading any background, is definitely apparent.
I hope more are to come!
wait till far after the end when you complete it
after the credits/small replays of levels you compleated
and you unlock levels
after that you have completed 32 levels
i meant level select
I can't figure out how to beat the 4th boss. The one that's underwater. Help.
Nevermind the last comment. Apparently when it loaded that level, somehow I got stuck on the wrong side of the rocks, and didn't have access to the the speed ring things. I just have to reload the level and hopefully I'll be where i'm suppose to be.
Thnaks guys, and to Jayisgames and John Bardinelli for the thoughtful review. Your comments are incredibly encouraging and the mention of Tolkein in the same breath really lights my fire. There is nothing like hearing from people who have enjoyed one of my games and taken the time to write their thoughts, criticisms and feelings about them. There is a world in my head (2 in fact) and each game/feedback helps teach me how to tightly tell those stories. Im working on 'Nimian Flyer Final' based on everything Ive learned to date so please keep playing, keep commenting, and keep visiting:)
This game is bloody fantastic. The best virtual game ever!
One thing I found really annoying is when I hover then try to play again, I have to click (which drops my bomb)and then go look for another bomb. Also, when I hover, the monster gets farther away.
Is it possible to get a pause button? (that really pauses and not just hovers?)
How do you defeat the boss that is completely red? He says I defeated all his children, but I will not survive.
Any tips?
(Jay, give me a pointer at least.)
I am totally in love with this game- although it is a bit lenghty and repetitive for my taste. I just can't figure out how to beat the last boss- the red one... Please help.
Wow, I just completed the game and was amazed at the intensity and persistence it took. The graphics were exceptional and the landscapes gorgeous. When I finally defeated Xexul, I felt a sort of sad disgruntlement at having reached the end, and I am itching for more Nimian Rider games.
Yeah, I really need to figure out how to beat... the last one? The giant, red dragon. Can't figure it out.
To defeat the last boss, be consistent and attack it continuously. It might take a while, and it'll try to flee near the end, but you'll get it eventually.
I can't figure out how to beat the lord of sacrifice help please!!!!!
Awesome game. This game was so much better than other flash games... I really don't know how to describe it.
Good luck to you, Robert Kabwe on your next game, can't wait to play it.
How do you defeat that Dranorca guy? (the one that's underwater) I just can't figure it out.
Okay so, to defeat Floyd, the Lord of Sacrifice, just keep going through the speed rings til you get to him and just burn him down. It'll take a while, but it /will/ work. And for Demorca: You'll see clusters of bubbles above the water. Inside the central one, there'll be a bomb berry. Fly through the bubble to pick it up. Then, go underwater and using the speed rings, get to Demorca. Next, drop the bomb berry. She'll fly out of the water briefly, so get out quick and burn her as much as you can before she goes back down. ^^
I also noticed that Drig seems to have a gender problem. At first, it says "drop Drig's children onto /her/ back", then once you defeat her/him, it says that Drig falls to "his defeat"... o.O
Oops, correction--Drig does not have a gender problem. She is in fact, female... It seems Sun /does/ however, have a reading comprehension problem. ^^
I agree nimian hunter or whatever was better but havent seen it on this site?
[Edit: try using the Search facility near the top of every page. It comes in handy for finding things in the archives.... Nimian Hunter. -Jay]

I just beat the game with no hints and i gotta say that it is a good game and the music whent with every battle and the last big boss I love it how your fighting thousand of feet in the air and when you crash its awsome.
How do you defeat XEXUL???????????????
How do you beat the last boss (Xexul)?
PLEASE TELL ME!!!!!
ok,we have health?
i never knew that,i thought the green bugs made your dragon grow bigger(never actually managed to eat a green one)and the weird thing that belives in your quest
how long does it take to catch up with him,i get close(hp bar stays at the top without fading)but then nothing happens
and,how do we lose our hp?
nice game, really cool for a flash.
anywayss
to beat xexul just burn her little sheild down and dodge the blue smoke.
chase her down and burn her wings and dodge the spinning stuff coming at you. keep burning her down until skulls start popping up. dodge them and just keep shooting her with fire.
she'll die eventually.
OMG!!!!!
i love this game for three reasons
1.I LOVE dragons!
2.The game has great animation and it's addicting.
3.I got to Rumbal (the 6th boss and i'm only 9 years-old!)
I need help with the Lord of Sacrifice.
I followed Sun's instructions, got to it, and clicked on it, and...nothing happened! Did I do it wrong? Because in my other battles I had to click to burn something...
I like it you know, its one of those games you don't give up on if you keep losing, keep going foward dude!
help!i can't seem to defeat the demorca(underwater)i followed the hints about getting the bomb berry, drop it in water and burn it when it get out of water.but when the hp is around half,i can't seem to get it out of water.1 part of its body after another will only slowly appear into the water.what should i do?
This game would be good if there was NO TEXT.
Boss introductions are screen-filling walls of text that can't be skipped and don't pause the game, causing you to fly into walls while you try to read it.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the game keeps throwing text at you, telling you exactly how to beat each boss. It completely defeats the point of a puzzle, and is downright insulting at times.
I want to enjoy this game, but apparently the creator has other ideas.
how do you finish the 3rd boss?? i keep flying and flying towards the stomping black and yellow thing but i can never get up close to it! plus i cant breathe fire and i have no idea what those green booster circle things are there for! HELP!!!
good game though.
how do u get past the guy under water?
*Link seems dead. Please change the broken link to the version on Newgrounds.*
Excellent game! Although a bit dated with technology now, it's still amazing to play, and has a grand feel other game devs seem too intimidated to try.
Hints (though I'm surprised anyone need them):
3rd boss (stomper)
Grab one of the mini-trex's(just touch it) that trail the big Trex. Fly through the green spheres until you're right next to the boss (like you can't go any farther). Move towards the top of the screen and quickly drop the baby dino.
4th boss (underwater)
Grab the purple bomb-fruit from the hanging bubbles in the sky. Then dive underwater and fly through the green spheres until you catch up to him.
Drop the bomb fruit and he'll get out of the water. Quickly roast his hide while he's in the air. Wash rinse repeat.
