Droid Team

KimberlyTeamwork. Cooperation. Partnership. Whatever buzzword for working together you prefer, you're going to need it in Droid Team, a unique puzzle platform game by Mike Romero. The goal is to direct the cute cubic droids to collect the glowing orb on each level. Use the [arrow] keys, or [WASD] to move your robot, and the mouse to select which robot to control. If you'd like, you can control the whole game with the keyboard by holding down the [spacebar] and using the arrow keys to select a robot. Hit [R] to restart a level, and [M] to mute the music. Step on a switch to activate the gate of the same color, and bust out your brain power. You're going to need it.

Droid TeamEach of the four robot colors has a different ability. Green has a good jump height, blue can move and lift other robots, orange gets a jetpack, and purple can withstand damage. While the jumping may at first feel a little stiff, any awkwardness is soon forgotten as you get immersed in the puzzles. And since the puzzles mostly require logical thinking and not precise jumping, it's even less of an issue. There's no story line as to why the little droids are collecting magical looking orbs, but nonetheless you'll feel compelled to keep playing to see what clever puzzle comes up next. Plus the way the bots waddle across the screen is pretty endearing. Though there's only 20 levels, don't expect to blow through them in a few minutes as you'll have to slow down and really use your brain to solve each level. Droid Team is an enjoyable game with well thought out inventive puzzles that will leave you feeling intelligent when you finally figure out each solution.

Reached level with blue "extending" droid.

Stopped playing there, utterly clueless how to use the thing.

That was a lot of fun. Nothing too hard, but some nice logic puzzles along the way.

Nice game, too short, could do with more distractors to make the puzzles less obvious

Blue droid is

Sort of a fork-lift truck for the other droids. It's the only one that will move with another droid on top

Isn't the term "Droid" a Lucasfilm copyright?

Between starting the game and figuring out the first level, I forgot that the mouse cursor was the mouse cursor and spent a good few minutes trying to "collect" it and didn't figure out that it was the cursor again for a few levels.

The hold spacebar and push a direction to pick a droid mechanism didn't work nearly as well as I liked, there were too many times I hit spacebar pushed a direction and still moved the current droid which was really frustrating.

Also, on level 12 I extended the blue droid up into the opened blue door and was able to attach the door to the top of the droid and moved it. I closed the door and the droid and the door got stuck together and I had to restart the level.

The walkthrough button links to a walkthrough that is missing part of Level 20. (This appears to be because the video was made back when Youtube limited most videos to 15 minutes, so it cuts off at that point.) Here's a text walkthrough for that level:

  1. Move all the droids except for one purple one onto the lift.

  2. Hit the white button with the remaining purple droid.

  3. Move the green droids into the alcove with the red button.

  4. Move both of the purple droids on the lift to its left side. (This should block the green droids from leaving the alcove.)

  5. Move the other purple droid over, releasing the white button.

  6. Walk the green droids off the ledge, so that they land on the purple droids.

  7. Hit the white button again.

  8. Jump one green droid on top of the alcove.

  9. Un-stack the droids remaining on the lift. Move the green one into the alcove, but not on the red button.

  10. Release the white button again.

  11. Stack all three purple droids in the left side of the lava pool. (The top droid should be the one that was hitting the white button -- it will need to jump from that ledge.)

  12. Walk the green droid on top of the level all the way to the left (on top of the door).

  13. Hit the red button.

  14. The green droid will fall on top of the stack of purple droids. Jump it off and collect the orb!

Nice little puzzle game although it's a pain not having a 'level' select having returned to it this morning and being told I have to start off from scratch (unless I'm missing something).

Healthy array of logic puzzles though and satisfying gameplay once I got used to it.

Good logical game, shame the last level was so easy
