Once again, it's time to guide a valiant knight and his trusted steed on their glorious mission. Okay, so it's not so much a valiant knight as it is a hedgehog with a rubber band and a rocket pack. But the mission is still glorious! Yes, we here at Jay is Games proudly support the ancient and noble art of launching hedgehogs into space. Via the center of the earth. And eventually... Nebraska?
If you liked the first edition of launchy goodness from gaming juggernaut Armor Games and jmtb02, chances are you'll find a lot to enjoy in Hedgehog Launch 2, including the creator's trademark cheek. Especially if you thought the original was missing shoes, and magnets. Other than that? Not much has changed. You still click and drag to shoot your willing little critter as far as you can, and you still have to fly around the screen using the vaguely unwieldy controls to collect the cash you'll need to make your upgrades. Which is a lot. The additional accessories you can buy are varied enough to warrant replays and endless tweaking in your race to the moon, especially since most of them required the cash equivalent of several Swiss bank accounts. (Legitimately obtained, we assure you. Why are you looking at us like that?) If you want to get everything maxed out, you're going to be playing a very long time indeed.
The addition of new items to get and a slight graphical improvement wind up making this one feel like the game the original should have been, rather than a new game. Is it fun? Oh yes. It provides that special thrill you only get from strapping wriggling little animals into an elastic band and then snapping them through the core of the earth. Don't pretend you don't know what we're talking about. Your time has come, my friend, in Hedgehog Launch 2. Hog harder, faster, farther.
Destiny awaits.
For some reason, the columns don't get higher when I launch, but I see the height increase AFTER I've launched. I am or doing something wrong or is it a glitch?
Either I got lucky or this one is a LOT easier. I finished the whole thing on day 6.
I made it to the m moon and Mars in the same day thanks to lots of platforms
Nevermind! I was pulling the hedgehog the wrong way..hehe. :]
Wow. Game completed in 3 days based from a lucky 2nd day. About $13,000 lucky.
I thought there would be more.
I don't really know if this is a spoiler or not, but here is my "strategy":
If you get one side of your rockets upgraded enough, and launch yourself relatively high, you can rocket to the side so fast that you will keep hitting platforms without losing too much altitude. I did this and then left to run some errands, and came back to find that my hedgehog had stayed in the air for almost forty minutes and made over $62,000,000.
Review error: The first game had parachutes.
I found the radar much more valuable in this version than the previous, likely because the platform density seems higher (and the purple platforms give you a great boost): I too parlayed my moon visit directly into a Mars completion by strategically hitting platforms. Finished in 5 days with a pretty unlucky series of runs, actually (and thus no upgrades other than launcher stuff, fuel, and side rockets), so I think this version is probably easier than the first. Still, both are terrific casual games to which I expect to return many, many times.
A new grow game and hedghog launch 2? It's a dream come true!
Got to Mars in 5 days as well. I'm a little dubious as to how effective the coin magnet really was, despite being followed by single coins on my initial (and subsequent boosters) rise, but the fuel drainer was definitely worth its weight in gold. The comrades option was a bit of a timing hassle, I think.
After you get level three fuel booster, you're pretty much set. Great game, but I just sent out my fully upgraded hedgehog, got him to 40,000 ft, set him on a slight angle, and he went for 5 minutes and 31 second, and got me 323.00 base money before landing. Oh, and total that's 429,458.83... too bad I can't get gravity destroyer now...
The Gravity Killer is kind of a let-down. After you buy it, you will automatically win because you just keep going up until you reach the goal. Then you go to Free Play mode where you can't use the Gravity Killer anymore.
Once again lots of fun, but the story mode is over much too quickly. I completed the game before getting even half of the upgrades.
Neddo,
I did the same :D
currently 45 minutes in and at 60k feet.
Interesting bug:
Upgrading one side rocket automatically gives you control over the other. At least, I could use both when I only bought the left one.
I just earned no less than 17 million in one go.
Not too long after earning about 1.5 million.
This game seems much easier.
drakono, that's not a bug; you start with left and right thrusters right off the bat in this version. (They're not terribly powerful, but they're there.)
The platform siphon power is quite useful; once I had it maxed out, I pretty much never ran out of fuel. I'm a little disappointed I couldn't continue past Mars, not to mention sad for my hedgie; it'd also be nice if the vanity items were reflected in cutscenes.
$167,668,226 with a run time of over an hour (I just left it running while I did some yoga). I am further convinced that this game is easier than the previous rendition. :)
This may seem like a dumb question... But which way at the beginning do you pull? [Left or Right] I've tried both but see no difference. I am so confused. (-_-)
Jester, you've still got two more directions to go, there! And it's not up, so...
Once again that ending freaks me out. ...Free play time!
You guys must have got lucky runs. Took me 35 days and 32 days to get to the moon. I really struggled until the 31st day, where I got lucky and then used that money to propel me to the finish.
JC: lol Sorry, I messed up on my comment. I guess I was more confused than I thought... I think I have finally figured it out and why the hey did I put left or right? (Always proof read your comments people)I meant "up" or "down" but I really don't know which is which in the new format of the game. I wish they had stuck to the old layout. :-P Anyway, thanks for the help.
Signed,
The Newbie Noob of Launching Hedgehogs
This game is dreadful compared to the original (a true masterpiece). In case anyone wants to replay the first and best, you can try and match my 3-day escape (I doubt anyone can ever beat it).

I quite enjoyed the first Hedgehog Launch, and this one makes some nice improvements on it, but it does seem a bit on the "too easy" side. This seems like the type of game achievements would be good for (things like "reach an altitude of 100,000 feet", "Stay in the air for 30 minutes," etc.). It might also be nice to have some sort of antagonist to provide some degree of challenge to free mode.
I got 13 days on my first attempt. Again, that was also the first day where I reached the moon.
Next attempt, using the sideways flight trick; I had a run of bad luck and then *almost* reached the moon on day 10. On day 11, I managed to hit almost nothing and earned a whopping $365 (compared to the $8.5k that I earned the previous day).
Day 12; I got to 7361 feet and flew for five minutes (with was with full-power side rocket with some fuel sucker and tank boosts), and then fell all the way back down to earth.
Didn't reach the moon, but did earn about 100k. That allowed me to buy *everything* remaining.
Hit the moon just from launch power - again on day 13.
...then I went into free-play mode and broke 100,000 feet mainly out of boredom.
Continuing on... I left my hedgehog flying and did some other stuff. Interestingly enough, he did NOT get ever-higher as some people would expect. Although it took another hour and 20 minutes, he eventually reached the ground again.
$9,593.50 collected
126643 feet max, -> x126.64
1:35:00.84 run time -> x570
Total: $692,521,283.68
Seriously, that number is too big to fit into the "results box" properly. I tried to select it and suddenly all I could see was the 8.
Decided to try my hand at this. I hadn't played the first game, so I really had no clue what I was doing at the onset. Started off by buying a few upgrades. Wasted the first 2 or 3 days by not catching a single coin or platform.
Day 13: Hit the moon. Earned half a million.
Day 15: Hit Mars. Earned two million. Maxed out every upgrade (except the gravity one).
Day 16: Decided to see how close I could get to a maximum altitude of 100,000 ft. Got 100,170. Made a concerted effort to hit the ground after this. Air time: 14:16. Total money: $6,887,508.89.
VERY easy. Good for killing some time, but no challenge at all, if I can beat it that quickly.
I hit around 9.6 mil for one launch.... Max thrusters and fuel, as well as the option that gets fuel when you hit platforms was maxed. I left it running for almost an hour. Had a max height of around 65,000 feet.
Money Collected: $20,845.75
Highest Elevation: 101433 feet
Run Time: 3:21:48.59
For total money of $2,560,172,378.87. The .87 doesn't fit in the box with the rest of it and I had to scroll it over to see it. Methinks this game has a gamebreaking strategy...
What is the name of the composer(s)? there is no "Credits" button and I missed it first time.
Neddo - me too, except
after I started my hedgehog shooting to the side, I didn't touch the keyboard for 18 minutes!
Talk about easy.
@BladeStorm: Really? I got 13 days on my first try, then 6 and 5 on my second and third. It's not that hard to beat 10 days, no luck involved.
Way too easy. Hit the moon on day 4 then kept platform bouncing right on going to Mars. MAX radar and fuel sucker combo breaks this game. Launching is awkward and the physics feel sluggish and weird.
This one is indeed way easier:

@Decimae yeah, to Mars in two days as well... I guess the next sequel will be going to alpha centauri?
MAJOR COMPLAINT!!
After finishing the game and buying all the upgrades (with the exception of no gravity) I started a new day and for some reason the game missed my ditching of the comrades when I hit the space bar.
"No big deal" I figured, "I'll just hit the handy restart button and take that turn over again."
Guess what? That doesn't restart that day, it restarts the bloody game. Ugh.
one of my favorite things about the game: the height measurements in feet, even when you're past the moon and mars :)
my best: 1 hour, 54 minutes, 45.32 seconds!
money collected: $12,637.25
total money: $551,949,263.65
:)
Cute game. I only have one complaint:
I beat both parts of the game in one trip. I had collected over $70, and my time and altitude were really high. But when I was done with the day, I never got one cent out of it.
Also, I found out the multiplier system.
(Amount of money found) x (Feet/1000) X (Seconds/10)
So if I found $10, got to 3200 feet, and spent one minute, I would earn (10) x (3.2) x (6.0) = $192.
Hey guys! I've found another thing with cheat engine (the other comment wasn't approved yet). How to remove lag from this game if you're high up in space and have every object and are really high up, like 40K feet:
Find the height value, freeze it, and set it to zero
That's it! You stay where you are but no lag!
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to agree with the rest of you: Hedgehog Launch 1 was much better. This one was just much too easy (I beat it in 9 days myself) and even with Free mode just seems... lacking in comparison to HL1. What they need is some innovation... they could use the same basic formula as HL1 and expand... you need to get the hedgehog as far into the vast universe as possible, so you launch to many bodies in turn... once you get to the moon, you launch from there to get to Mars (which would be further away than in this game) and then from Mars to Jupiter, etc. That could be really cool.
And yes, the restart button you have an "are you sure?" screen or something. I blew up my game, too, just I was only on day two at the time. XD
Where's the link to open the game in a new tab rather than a new window? :(
[Added. Thanks for the heads-up. -Psychotronic]
When upgrading the rocket, does it affect the same direction, or the other direction? Because technically, the left rocket pulls you right and vise versa.
118,469.44 I got that much $$$ in one try!!!
P.S. I maxed everything out in 20 min./ 8days.
I can't tell the difference between Story and Free Play mode. I thought that in Free Play mode you'd get unlimited money or something?
lol this game is waaaaaaaay too easy.
1st attempt: hit mars on day 7 - same day as the moon (I like that twist by the way :))
1st attempt on freeplay: day 8 - played for 25 mins (actual playing, not boosting on an angle) got up to 150,000ft, got bored and decided to use up all my fuel just for the heck of it. Took 5 mins of pressing both buttons at once. Took another 5 mins to get back to the ground.
I now have everything upgraded with 56 million left over
:)
btw: flying w/ comrades still attatched - much more interesting
and josh, freeplay lets you go as high as you want - story ends at mars
again, too easy (4 days). prefer the original.
Whee! This is even more fun than the first one!
Best height (Free mode):
79108 feet
Got to moon/mars in:
Moon in 18 days, Mars in 19
Far too easy.
Moon/mars in two days.
I basically had a big first day, using rockets sparingly to nail visible red and gold platforms whenever possible. Accumulated sideways velocity so that when the fall began (no fuel left) the hedgehog would find its way to some platforms.
Collecting ~$80 with 2 minutes of airtime yielded about $6K.
Loaded up on E-rockets and full radar and got to the moon/mars with ease on day two.
$23,522.25 collected
216,088 feet
3:59:34.30
$7,306,125,902.03
I got bored at 345,000 feet.
Seriously: More content or more challenge please. this gets boring after one play and is thrown aside - unlike version 1, which I found neatly balanced.
How do you get to the moon? I've been to 34,000 ft and can't find the damn thing.
Well, my best shot, i got a base oover 1,500 base money...
i ran for 18:36, 42,000 highest, final bonus...
over 5,136,000
'twas insane
in 45 min. I made 31,019,368.2 and maxed out the upgrades...pretty boring!
I am missing something. I can't see how everyone considers this game easy. I can't earn more than a few dollars each day because by the time I get through the earth, I have so little momentum that I barely clear the ground. If there is not a platform right there, I just fizzle out on the ground. I will never be able to afford upgrades this way. What am I missing? I tried pulling the launcher both up and down (as it is somewhat vague) and the results are the same.
1,004.50$ collected 17.85 ft times and 78.7 lenht times = 1,411,353.74
Andy - It's relatively easy to complete the game in 5 days but luck of the draw is a major part of the game in my opinion. If you don't get a decent amount of money on your first launch, do a restart and try again.
Launching at an angle is part of my strategy. And getting an angle that spans about 2-3 platform widths seems to help me too. Increase your "height" and "band" first and then get "magnet", "fuel sucker" and "e-rockret as money allows. "left rocket"and "right rocket" are not as important as "fuel tank".
I really enjoy this game and hope that jmtb02 takes this out to the next level. This is casual gaming at it's best.
Skipping from planet to planet would be fun. And an option to skip the cut scenes would be appreciated.
HOW HIGH IS THE MOON????
Ok I need help. I can't seem to get more than $10. What am i doing wrong?
Mars in 5 days.
Sorry for the rather off-topic comment here, but:
does that code in the "you beat the game in _ days" screen from HL1 have any meaning in HL2?
(the code was in the bottom-right corner, and it said: Remember: 11249)
Same question as a few others have asked: where the heck is the moon?? I've been going for 29 days now, have had launches that lasted for half an hour, gone over 30,000 feet, have everything maxed & enough money to max everything again if I could, have done the sideways launch & let it go thing, but I can't find the blasted moon! Help?
