Holy Weekly Occurrence, Batman! It's Link Dump Friday! Are you surprised? You are, aren't you? I mean, Link Dumps don't just come around every day. This week, we take a heap of raw fish, some toxic sea-sludge, discarded bones, some ice-cream, and serve it all up to you while wearing our most stylish towel! Now, how many game websites are willing to do that for you, eh?... hey, where's everyone going? Aw...
- Sushi Boy Thunder - Despite what certain felines may endorse, I've never been a fan of sushi. Maybe that's because it typically isn't served to me while I'm flying through the air, gobbling down shrimp and rolls as I avoid explosives and stuff my pockets full of coins! Such is the aim of this disarmingly adorable yet simple little arcade game. So go ahead; get your nom on. Teppanyaki would be infinitely more entertaining with live grenades, I'll tell you that much.
- Deep and Blue - Whales are terrifying; they're massive, you don't matter to them, and they could swallow you and not even realise it until they started burping up tacky resort-themed swim trunks a week later. Still, it's hard not to emphasize with the star of this point-and-click puzzle game, so maybe it's okay to give the lonely guy a hand (fin... whatever) in his quest to find out the meaning behind life, the universe, and everything. Solve the puzzles in each screen in order to progress, and try not to let any untimely fates befall you. Ocean be all hazardous and whatnot.
- Clostrum - I tell you what, I've partied pretty hard in my time (this one night I drank four gingerales all by myself!), but I've never woken up in a dirty castle cell with only a manky old skeleton for company. You escape game fiends are probably used to it, but the rest of us have places to go, things to see, people to avoid! We don't have time to assemble a key out of four soda cans, an ancient mystical orb, and a rat tail! Come on... isn't there an app for that yet?
- Papa's Freezeria - The Papa's Series of time management simulation games goes ice cold in this sweet treat of an installment. Anyone who has ever heard the siren lure of the build-your-own-sundae bar at restaurants across the land knows the appeal of crafting creamy masterpieces, and Papa's will definitely fill that fantasy if you've got steady hands and an eye for ice-cream perfection. Coming up next; Papa's Charcuteria! (Guest starring Anthony Bourdain. Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease!)
- Flagstaff Chapter Four - Turn-based RPG action gets pun-ier in this fourth installment of the popular Flagstaff series. This time you're searching for "Crazy Dust" antidote, which is something I would personally love to get my hands on... what? No, not for me! Geez. Rude. While not perhaps the best showing the series has to offer, it still brings to the table all the strategic combat you love, and all the hawt towel fashions you need.
Ok, in Clostrum stuck on how
to get rid of the guard. Any hints?
Thanks!
Nevermind! Got it! :)
Nice place to put a "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" reference.
I'm stuck in Clostrum, too.
I need to distract that guard, but everything I have is terrible and useless!
Aaand, two seconds later I get it!
That spider could use some surgery...
Sadly, there's no bowl of petunias in Deep and Blue.
Try tab in Closure. I'm stuck currently with
the poisioned pin. I can't distract the guard either.
Any help?
To get rid of the guard in Clostrum
Get the bone from the skeleton, and use the knife on it to make a pipe.
Combine the pipe with the poisoned pin and you have a blowgun.
I'm stuck in Deep and Blue on the scene where the whale gets caught in a fishing net. Help?
In Clostrum, I found the place where I can use the information on the note, but when I follow the pattern, nothing seems to happen. Even when I go back through the halls and rooms, I can't do anything any different. Is there more to this than just the pattern?
the music in clostrum is driving me nuts, please someone help with the note puzzle :|
Clostrum Walkthrough:
You start out facing a cell door, which you'll have to find a way to open if you want to escape.
Examine the door. The hinges seem weak, maybe you can find a way to break them.
Examine the stones near the hinges. "These stones are like sponge." Hmm...
In your inventory are a lighter and a knife.
Exploring the cell:
Turn right.
On your left is a box.
Pick up a pin from the edge of the box.
Examine the wall in front of you.
The mortar around that central brick is looking a bit crumbly...
Use your knife on the brick in the middle of the wall.
Look through the hole in the wall. You need to get rid of that guard before you can escape...
Back up and turn right again.
Hmm, a pool of water. If only you had a container.
Nice view from the window, but those bars look pretty secure. No escaping there.
Nothing useful here, better keep exploring. Turn right.
Eek, a skeleton! Poor guy. Maybe he had something you can use.
Take the note from his hand.
It shows a 3x3 grid, and a patten of lines connecting the grid squares. Maybe it'll come in handy if you get the chance to play tic-tac-toe with the guard.
Take his leg bone (it's not like he needs it anymore).
Back up and turn right.
Pick up the bowl from the middle of the floor.
There's a poisonous spider up in that corner. Why not risk your life trying to catch it with your bare hands?
You've explored your whole cell, so now it's time to take stock of what you have and come up with an escape plan. In your inventory, you have:
cut bone, deadly spider, piece of note, pin, bowl, empty space, lighter, knife
Getting rid of the guard:
You have a cut bone that looks like a pipe, a pin, and a poisonous spider. Sounds like a recipe for a blowgun!
Use your knife on the spider to get its poison.
Dip the pin in the spider's poison to get a poisoned pin.
Combine the poisoned pin and cut bone to get a blowgun.
Turn right twice to return to the hole in the wall. Zoom in and shoot the guard with your blowgun.
Opening the cell door:
Recall that the hinges are attached to stones that seemed "like sponges." What do sponges do?
Sponges soak up water. Where have you seen water?
Fill the bowl with water from the pool.
Pour the water on one hinge stone, and repeat for the other.
Now kick that door off of its hinges! Good thing you got rid of the guard, or you'd be in trouble.
Outside the cell:
Step out into the corridor. There's nothing here but hallway, so move forward.
The guard is asleep in front of you. Check that he's really unconscious, then rifle through his pockets.
Use your knife on his belt to get a rusty key.
Nothing more to see here, keep moving. Go right, then forward. Hey, a door with a keyhole!
Open it with the rusty key.
Step forward into a room with a combination lock.
It's a 3x3 grid.
Remember that piece of note you took from the skeleton?
Push the buttons in order, starting in the top middle and ending in the bottom middle.
Step through the door. Congratulations, you're free!
@JIG Guest. To get past the fishing net in deep blue
click the 3 kelp branches in front of you. They will float to the surface and then you can click on the whale to swim away.
Don't know what the tire does besides take away some time. Hope that helps!
In Clostrum ... I have everything I need but can't find the guard.
Eew, SushiBoy has bulimia problems: he eats sushi and spits it out like projectiles XP. Good game though.
Deep and Blue - the meaning of life is multiplication ... uhhh yes, not original?
I was pleasantly surprised by Papa's Freezeria. I LOVED Pizzeria, loved Burgeria, and hated Taco Mia. When I saw that there was a new game in the Papa's series (and so soon after the others! developers, give us a little time between releases, yeah?), I groaned inwardly... but gave it a chance, because I'm a schmuck.
And I haven't had as much fun with a Papa's game since Burgeria. The difficulty curve on Freezeria seems a little lower, the closers less strict and the time constraints not so impossibly tight as they were in Taco Mia. Granted, in the first few levels this feels without challenge... it's not (ahem) heated up yet, but it's a good casual game rather than hardcore challenging.
Now, a tip:
It seems if you wait a bit on pouring ice cream and adding mixtures, the bar actually slows down, allowing you to get within the green MUCH easier. And I haven't noticed that those few extra seconds really negatively affect your time score, but your mileage may vary.
Whoops, power of posting.
Regarding the tip, it looks like if you wait, you only get a 'Good' score for hitting the middle rather than a 'Great!'.
So there's that.
As someone who cheers when Weekday Escape Wednesday comes around, I must say Clostrum was a little too short to be satisfying. Right at the point where I said to myself, "All right, here we go!" it was over. Thus I sat, blinked, and said, "That's it?"
And I never did
use the lighter.
Ugh, I am commenting TOO MUCH. I just have a lot to say about Freezeria... I guess. :P
On Rank 8, and still loving it. The difficulty hasn't ramped up too much, which is nice; I guiltily admit to being one of those people who sometimes like to play games on Easy mode to relax, and Freezeria is perfect for this purpose-it has the same feel of a game that fits perfectly into the Papa's formula, without having the comparatively punishing difficulty (at least for casual players or those that don't manage their time well).
I am incredibly annoyed about the ads that pop up between days, though. I remember someone complaining about this for Jorinapeka and Jay fixing it so that the ads no longer popped up between levels, so something like that would be nice for Freezeria, Jay... ;P
Also, I don't know if it's a problem with JiG or the game itself, but I seem to be having trouble with the sound. After a few levels, the music track cuts out, although the sounds-of the ice cream machine, the coins during tips, the HOORAY! effects for good customer scores, etc-remain... just no music. I can toggle the sound button on and off, but still no music. If I reload the page, I'll get the music back for a few levels... and then it dies again.
Granted, the music can get grating after a while, so that's not altogether a bad thing, but a weird idiosyncrasy I thought I should probably report anyway.
In closing (hopefully no more comments from me): I think Freezeria is a decent enough game in the series to warrant its own review outside of a LD. But hey, different strokes. (:
[I'm hearing you. I'll get someone working on a review, and I'll try contacting the developer about the interlevel ads and the sound issue. Thanks for the feedback. I think we might have passed on this one by mistake. -Jay]
Sure that I'm missing something obvious, but how do you wear the hats in Freezeria? I bought one from the upgrades and I don't see anywhere to equip it
Deep and Blue made me sad
I find the Papa series of games oddly addicting. I liked Taco Mia the best of them all, I thought it struck just the right balance and once you figured out the "best" way to go about things it really wasn't difficult at all. An odd little thing I dislike about it, and Freezeria as well, is the whole "closer" aspect of the game. Having actually worked in food service for many years, I really dislike being forced to give "special service" to what are essential obnoxious customers, especially at the expense of what I would consider "good" customers. Haha I know, I know it's just a game, but the server in me cringes every single time I'm forced to serve those "closers" in front of two or three other customers who came in before them, just so my score doesn't suffer. It's not really a complaint about the game, just something that bothers me that probably shouldn't and I thought was kind of funny. I wondered if anybody else felt the same way.
sdlkfhg, I'm famous! Jay replied to me! Cx
Ahem, anyway...
@tigrita;
There's a pause button in the lower right of the screen. Click it, and it brings up your total/today's customer points on the left, total/today's tips on the right, and in the middle is your character... above their head is the 'Change Hat' option, with left and right arrows to scroll through your hat inventory.
For Freezeria, how do the alarms work?
Thanks, asfghn! I didn't even notice the pause button earlier, heh.
@JQ: The alarms are really great. After you buy them, they appear above the mixing machines. When you put a cup in a mixer, you can click the alarm above it that goes with how long you want to mix it. When it's ready, it'll ring and show you an alert on the bottom of the screen, no matter what station you're at. I highly recommend getting all 3 alarms and the bell for the door as early as possible.
Oh, and @hothotpot:
You don't really have to give the closers all that much extra attention, especially once you have lots of "improves waiting time" items in the shop. I treat my closers like regular customers and I still get great scores from them (100% and high 90s usually).
I'm stuck on the Octopus level in "Deep and Blue."
I see two things that change when I click on them: the snail and the larger hole.
The snail is VERY slow and the octopus grabs you when you head for the second hole.
@SkylerF:
There is another thing you can click near the top of the screen.
There's another cave entrance above the octopus eye.
It's so sad that Flagstaff ended up in Link Dump. I really like the series and even though there is not much progress in gameplay since episode 2 or 3 the humour is still really cool. I think this game deserves a real review.
My little cousin (3 years old) absolutely loves "Deep and Blue". She asks me every day if we can play the "whale game" together and has memorized what needs to be clicked on for each screen. It's the neatest game I've found to play with children on JIG so far; and I'd like to hear if anybody could suggest some similar point-and-click kid-friendly games.
Thanks; JayIsGames is really awesome!
melzidek,
The absolute best kid friendly point-and-click game I've ever played is Sissy's Magical Ponycorn Adventure.
It's an incredibly adorable project made by a father and his 5 year old daughter. My little cousins loved it and I even picked it as one of my 2011 favorites.
