Exot Working's darkly humorous MURDER is a simple game of reflexes, cunning, and, you guessed it, murder most foul. In it, you play a slimy rogue out to nab the crown for himself, which apparently can be done simply by offing the current king. Choose the right moment to hit the [spacebar] to give His Royal Majesty a good old fashioned daggering, and the crown is yours! But the game is just beginning. After you've assumed the crown, you'll need to press the [spacebar] at the proper time to catch those other knaves out to do you in and toss them into the dungeon, and when the red bar at the top of the screen runs out, well... that's life when you're a murderous, untrusting old monarch, I suppose. How many bodies can you amass in your dungeon? And do they all deserve it?
Interesting little timing game. I do see a slight issue, but it only happened in one run and I couldn't replicate it: I clicked off the window and when I clicked back, (on my comp I have to actually click on the game to resume play) every time I tried to focus-click it just went to the sponsor site. Pressing spacebar wouldn't do anything except scroll down the page. I got slightly murdalized because of that.
Nice little game - for about 3-4 minutes, then it gets really old really soon.
Ok, I figured this one out after some time. the game has 3 different endings. Here is a small hint how to break the endless murder loop:
just don't send everyone to the dungeon. show some love :3
Does anyone know how to unlock the "Party in the Dungeon" achievement on Newgrounds? It's the only one I haven't figured out yet.
Rygar:
Get caught trying to murder the king. Lots of times.
Here's how to get the badges:
Whyyyyy
Let the jester attack you.
Love Always Remains
Let the pudgy man dressed in red attack you.
Eternity
Let the butler with the red liquid serve you a drink, then survive until the ending.
Party In The Dungeon
Let 20 skeletons accumulate in the dungeon. The skeletons can be yours or those of your enemies, it doesn't matter.
Well that was mildly interesting.
I did get curious, and
let someone murder me when I was king to see if I could then play as them.
I let a jester murder me, and the crown killed somebody who was on the toilet.
Utterly terrible and over in about 3 mins.
Kill King, don't get killed yourself, die of a heart attack.
Repeat forever.
DULL.
Pretty doesn't make a fun game.
I think those saying this is a boring game are not quite playing it right. There's so much great stuff in here! Try catching more killers in the act, and there's a whole box of MURDER to discover.
Shudog,
I did find out most of what's been mentioned here - still I found it boring after a couple of minutes.
But hey, that doesn't make it a bad game - just one I didn't particularly like.
This is a strangely charming little game, in my opinion. It's true that even going for all of the endings will only take ten minutes or so, but it's a fun diversion for the time that it lasts.
What I liked most about MURDER was the way the character ages. At the beginning, he kills the king, then subtly grows older and older until he looks exactly the same as the king before him. I won't go so far as to say that it's "deep," but one could take it as a message about vicious cycles, which was enough to earn my appreciation.
Fun 10 minutes! Not something to 'keep playing' for tho... more of find all the endings and move on. :)
I killed the king, and then I thought I had to keep preventing the guy behind me from killing me by always looking at him straight away, rather than catching him in the act. But I got a few people thrown in the dungeon, and then when the timer was done, the game froze with the guy behind the king with his mace raised, and the king walking in place.
1 mushroom for that gamebreaking bug on my first play. Not a good first impression to make.
I keep getting caught and losing. Bah!
Love how the game plays with its concept as an eternal cycle - and the only ways to break it are to trust people instead of sending everyone to the dungeon.
Also it's pretty. Very pretty. :D
Here's a guide I made for the game:
How to Kill:
Always hold down the space bar whenever you can and only let go when one of the "Kings" below have done the following
Initial King/The other Jack of Spades:
Sniff, Cough, Blink (accompanied by a blinking sound so it's easier), or eye-roll. Let go.
When they look up though, keep holding down on the space bar since this is a red herring.
Poison-giving Servant:
Sniff or Cough. Let go.
Because the servant has their eyes shut, you can't know if they'll turn around. So just keeping trying again and again until you manage to backstab him.
How NOT to get Killed/"Killed":
Once you're king others will start to do the same thing... more or less.
The other Jack of Spades:
When the mace is above or behind his head. Look back. (Still the Space Bar)
Any of the Servants:
Just look back and they'll be sent to the dungeon.
Joker:
When the Joker is close enough or directly within stabbing range. Look back.
How to get the Achievements on Newgrounds (And endings):
Love Always Remains:
After killing the king. Survive until the servant carrying a tray with a red potion on it arrives. Don't look back at him and let him "stab" you (He will gently tap on your shoulder and offer you the potion). Once he does, the countdown timer on the top will turn golden and disappear. Survive until the Hearts servant appears. Let them "stab" (hug) you and you'll get the achievement (and one of the endings)
Party in the Dungeon:
Have a lot of people sent to the dungeon. You can do this by either of the two options: Get caught trying to stab the king many many times. OR. Catch anyone trying to kill/"kill" you to send them to the dungeon. Once enough skeletons have accumulated, one of them will gain a party hat and you'll get the achievement.
Whyyyyy?:
After killing the King. Survive until the Joker appears. Let him kill you to get the achievement (and one of the endings).
Eternity:
After killing the King. Get the red potion from the servant carrying it (let him "kill" you). Once that's done, simply survive for as long as you can. Once you reach the door, you get the achievement (and one of the endings).
