Life is hard in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but as long as your rustbucket of a dog is by your side you know you'll make it through anything. In Raiders Took My Dog, life is good until the unthinkable happens or, well, really it's pretty thinkable as it's the title of the game. In Aleksey Severinov and Aniseed's action packed shooter for browser and Android, you're fighting wave after wave of raiders to find out who they sold your dog to. This first game of the series has plenty of gun types and specialties to spend all your cash on as well as achievements to help fill your wallet. While you can only move up and down with your mouse, you have to dodge ranged and melee attack as you clear the screen of all baddies. Every fifth level ends with a boss battle and while you can squeak by with only a bit of health left you'll want to come out unscathed to get those precious stars that award you with even more cash you can then spend on bigger guns to get Scrappy back in no time.
Raiders Took My Dog has a lot of things going for it. It has a great slope of difficulty where you never feel like you have to grind to be able to pass a level, and all the levels are done well enough that replaying them to get more stars doesn't become a tedious chore, but instead holds as much as a challenge as the first time through. Everything is really well balanced (except the final gun, but that's another story) and so it never feels like a new enemy is an instant death sentence. However, and this is a big however, this game comes with one cringe worthy blemish. The English translation is bad, even limited to only a few lines per level and the descriptions, to the point where trying to figure out what they're meant to say may be challenging. But Raiders Took My Dog doesn't need to have a convincing and deep story to be the entertaining shooter that it is. Besides all you really need to know is someone took your beloved pup and you got the ammunition to solve this problem.
The description of the third level is "My boss doesn't know English." No kidding.. lol
I really don't like the controls.
As soon as the enemies that shoot at you showed up I was getting frustrated trying to hit them at the same time as dodging their attacks AND trying to pick up drops before they disappear.
Needless to say I quit immediately. I just couldn't find the "fun."
