And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy drivers ever to whirl their wheels, ready to compete for fame and fortune in the stunt racing championship of Paul Gene Thompson's Renegade Racing! Select your vehicle and track to start your race, with [WASD] or the [arrow] keys to control. Use [up] or [W] to accelerate, [down] or [S] to break, [spacebar] or [X] to jump, [left/right] or [A/D] to tilt your car forwards and backwards. The goal of each race, of course, is to make it to the end as quick as possible, along with various secondary objectives. Performing stunts like flips or wheelies will contribute to your Turbo Bar. Once it's filled, it will automatically activate to give you a burst of speed. Collecting coins and winning races will give you cash you can use to upgrade your vehicle, and completing certain objectives will unlock new cars for purchase. Renegade Racing will probably feel familiar to fans of the Cyclomaniacs series. However, since that series hasn't as of yet, let you do inverts with an ice cream truck, a double-decker bus, a Delorean or a '69 Dodge Charger, one thinks there's room enough in the browser gaming world for a high-quality "inspired-by". The races are fast, the controls are tight, and there's a nice variety of challenges to complete. You've got 18 races to get through, a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and you're wearing sunglasses. Hit it!
A tip for the Green light missions.
You can go back and forward pass them when green and it will count each time you do.
Holy lord above is this some fun.
Having a tough time getting the combos on lvl 12. Not sure what they are looking for. I keep getting "combo" on the screen, but the meter doesn't fill up.
Help?
@Neo:
what it wants you to do is pull off 3 tricks (a front flip, back flip, a inverse (hang in the air upside down.)), and then finish it with a perfect landing all in one jump.
Doing multiple front and back flips won't work.
It's tricky, but doable.
I cannot pick people up at the bus stop. I'm stopped (sort of - my down key puts my car in reverse), but no one wants to get in. Any suggestions?
@blue
Thanks. The perfect landings are going to kill me.
Hands down the absolute funnest browser racing game I've played in a very long time! And it's challenging, too!
Although one "challenge" aspect I don't like is completing the secondary objective, but not being awarded the prize because you came in last place.
:(
@jcfclark: Are you driving the bus?
Duh no. Thanks Bill.
Hmm. 45/49 coins on the last level. Anybody got any ideas about these 4 secret coins?
Reverse on the start line, they are above you!
Has anyone been able to get the "Fast Food" and "Renegade Routemaster" Achievements?
jiffy, just drive backwards from the starting line
The "Renegade Routemaster" achievement takes practice, but it's doable if you skip the full loop to make up time -- I've done it twice now. "Fast Food," though, is almost certainly a sick joke to infuriate the completists. ;)
Sorry, I'd been playing the version on Kongregate, where "Renegade Routemaster" was changed to level 4. Level 10 is just nuts.
I can't even finish level 10 with the Routemaster, let alone get first place, because I can't get the bus past the vertical jump!
BTW, the link to the game in the text of the review is broken due to bad HTML.
Just signing in for the first time in about 3 years as I managed to get all the achievements :-)
Level 10 with the Routemaster was tricky but I got there eventually - you need the 2 or 3 cars that will inevitably be in front of you just before the finish line to all flip upside down simultaneously.
I actually found Fast Food (level 17 with the ice cream van) a bit easier.
How do you get the police lights working? anyone know?
