Grab a snack before you sit down to relax and enjoy this week's trio of free online escape games. They might make you hungry, either for curry dinner, bright citrus or perhaps sustenance of a more cerebral sense. FunkyLand beckons you to gather up a bushel of juicy oranges while No1Game sends you grocery shopping. Meanwhile, if you're still hungry for mental stimulation, Story House's debut into Weekday Escape provides a light repast of logical puzzles in a lucid, one-walled scene.
Find the Escape-Men 96: The Super Market - All you wanted was to pick up some stuff for dinner, but in No1Game's supermarket, before you can checkout, first you must finish the "Time-limited Escape Sale"—finding 10 escape men and completing your grocery list. This will appeal more to those who love purely searching out hidden objects, with the usual pixel hunts and tricks typical of the EM series. It's light on challenge; the hardest part is finding not only the covert green guys but the two coded areas. Even so, if you can bear the clicking-around-anywhere-everywhere gameplay, the quirky humor and colorful setting make the search a fun one. Stick around for the ending because, like In the Library, the story is sweet and entertaining, an ample reward for your store patronage.
Fruit Kitchens #03: Navel Orange - Here's another escape where the fun is in the setting more than in actual puzzle challenge. In this case, it's by FunkyLand, whose fruit is just as scrumptious as candy...but it's a bit easier to find. All around this sunshiny bright room, juicy oranges are hiding—either in plain sight or behind puzzles and contraptions. Can you find all 7 spherical citruses and escape the room before the exceedingly chipper music makes the corners of your smile twitch deliriously? Those with trouble differentiating colors are most at risk here, otherwise the quest is rather straight-forward, so it shouldn't take too long before you have oranges enough to buy an exit key.
Story Room 4 - This comely little one-walled scene by Story House is surprisingly polished yet uncomplicated. A bit of exploration, some piecing together of clues and practical use of elements will readily turn up the code that unlocks the door. Albeit somewhat lacking in the personality and beauty departments, the game comes out of the shadows with its logical puzzle progression. While not maddeningly difficult or complex, it at least provides some quick mental stimulation for those who are starving for it after the grocery shopping and orange picking sojourns.
We love escape games, and our readers love talking about them and sharing hints! How about you? Let us know what you think, ask for clues, or help out other players with your walkthroughs in the comments below.
Wait, what? I managed to solve the door password in Story Room 4 without solving anything else...
This was awesome! solved them all without a hint. I must be a geeenius. (Or else they were kind of easy tonight.)
@uncopy2002: Haha, yeah. This is one of those places where a Tomatea-style "I have no idea how to solve this!" until we actually locate all parts of the clue might have been a good idea. Still, cute game, if a bit disappointingly short.
I love the quickies ... first time I've ever solved all three without a walkthrough! One tricky thing in the Green Man game:
there's a tiny panel under the "beef" display - it's very hard to see.
Thanks for keeping Wednesdays special! :)
The link for Story Room just gives me a page of Japanese text I can't read...
Hi Daibhid,
Does it help to clear your browser cache or use a different browser, update Flash or disable any conflicting extensions? It's working here for me in both Chrome and Firefox (Windows 7).
Right back at you, google account id ;-)
Tried it again, ready to disable my adblocker etc, and it loaded fine. So I don't know what was happening before.
Pretty stuck on EM96. Just one man missing. Found the
cashier
beef code
pepper
staff only door
register display
backs of curry and list
under meat
shaking the no. 1 sign
and now I have one left I can't find. Help?
nvm I found it! in the
meat code poster, under the corner
I'm sorry, I know this probably isn't the place for this. The site format is not working. Pages are way too long. This page I'm on right now scrolls down way too far. I'm typing this halfway down a page. The rest of the page is blank space with a row of game ads on the right. There are 13 ads in total. That's pretty excessive. I also noticed these ads are for games categorized as "popular". I noticed one, Moonchild, had particularly objectionable art. I clicked on it. It's received a total of 12 ratings and 0 comments on it's page. I don't think that's very popular. I'm not going to bother questioning why it's there. It really doesn't matter. The point is, the format of the pages has changed drastically, for the worse. Even worse, I think, is the format of a game with comments/walkthroughs below it. It's very difficult to read. You end up with really long pages.
Again, I don't mean to start this whole thing all over again. I just really felt the need to give some feedback. Things like this are making the site harder and harder to enjoy. I used to visit this site at least once a day, every day. Now weeks go by before I look at it. And when I do, it's worse every time. Please, please take a look at it. Find someone to edit the site that can do it justice. It's severely lacking. I really don't want to see it die.
This week's selection was quite diverting. The super market one is probably one of my favorites of all the green man escape games I have played.
Hi DAM,
Probably the best place to comment on the site overall is the support page, where it's more easily seen by Jeff and Dora. I don't have any control over the site design myself. That said, you're also welcome to leave feedback on my articles anytime you'd like; I'll try my best to help as much as I can.
I'm not sure what you mean by longer pages, though....they should actually be a bit shorter now since the articles are wider (personally, I preferred the narrower-longer layout). This same format of game reviews with comments and walkthroughs below is the same as it's always been; nothing has changed in that regard. The use of side banners for games we wanted to promote has been around for years, also, but on both the left and right sides.
Besides comments, is there something at the bottom of the page you're scrolling down to use? Maybe it can be suggested to move it to the top? If you want to skip straight to comments, you can click the "comments" link (found in the game title banner, just below the tags).
Thanks shjack180, I'm glad you like them! "In The Library", which I featured in WE a couple months back is one of my favorites because it's so sweet...but I also loved the humor in the Ninja House one. Have you played it yet?
can't wait for the walkthroughs :)
Escape-Men Locations
Turn over a green pepper.
Look in your basket and flip over your shopping list.
After you pick up the package of meat, get an EM from the beef shelf.
Knock and wait for an employee to come out of the "staff only" door.
Shake the "No1!" sign multiple times.
Check the bottom of your curry box (gained by solving 4-digit letter puzzle).
Watch the register at the empty check out lane.
Lift up the right-hand corner of the "Best Selling Meat" poster.
Solve the 3 animal icon puzzle (under the beef display).
Put the two other customers in the checkout line.
I have all ten escape men and now they are on a stamp card. Now what?
There are 3 customers at the cash register and I have the stamp card and my basket. But nothing I click on or have highlighted in my inventory seems to work.
I wasn't finished shopping. I was missing the carrots. Then it works. :)
elle,
You're right, the library one was pretty good too. I have played the Ninja House series. I do believe that series was what got me hooked on the green men escape games. After that, I did a tag search on this site to play more. I have enjoyed playing a great deal of them, though there have been some where the story did not make sense to me (like the last lengthy series featured on jayisgames) or the mechanics and art were of a low quality.
Elle:
If you click on, for example, the Submachine 9 ad on the right side, you'll see what I'm talking about. It opens the game, but with the review below it. It made a lot more sense before, when the game would open in a window and the links to walkthrough or comments would take you to a different window.
There were ads along the side before, that's true, but there are way more now. There's a bunch of blank space below the comments. If the comments page becomes full, I'm sure that space will be filled, but for now, it looks poorly done. It used to stop the page wherever the comments section ended (it didn't continue with blank space).
Just wanted to explain what I meant. I enjoy your reviews. They are very well written. :)
where are the other 2 walkthroughs?

I love the EM games! This is the first time I finished one with no walkthrough! (though I did peek at the spoiler in the 4th comment)
how about story room 4?
I got 9 out of the 10 escape men, using the one hint about the
door under the meat case
.
I didn't know that
you can look up when viewing the curry shelves
