White Door Room Escape

AllyAfter many, many weeks of being a regular feature in our Weekday Escape series, Yomino Kagura is bustin' out into the big leagues with
White Door Room Escape. Though their settings tend to be simplistic and their interfaces minimalistic, Yomino Kagura's escapes always feature juicy puzzles to tease and entice your brain. White Door Room Escape is no exception: This unassuming-looking little room contains a host of brainteasers, running the gamut from piecing together well-hidden codes to that ubiquitous wobbly-picture puzzle. And unless you feel like sleeping on a bed that appears to be made out of giant notebooks, you'd best get to escapin'!

Just click around on whatever you want to investigate, using the big yellow arrows to change your viewpoint, and the large "ABOUT ITEM" button for a closer look at anything in your inventory. Yomino Kagura doesn't set out to break the mold when it comes to presentation, and there's also quite a bit of untranslated Japanese in the game, but none of it is critical to solving the puzzles. In fact, the only letters you'll have to recognize are going to look preeeeetty similar to the ones you're staring at right now. The lack of a changing cursor does lead to a few small pixel hunts, but it's the puzzles themselves that sell Yomino Kagura's room escapes. They have a logical flow, with one solution leading smoothly into the next like a beautiful, choreographed train of mixed metaphors. The hints they give are clever, and some clues will even serve you for more than one puzzle! All together, White Door Room Escape is a bit like that tan-and-brown floral couch your grandma's had forever: It may not be eye-catching, but it sure is comfortable to sink into.

Walkthrough Guide

Hint-through

(A walkthrough seems like overkill for this one.)

  • All I've found is a triangle, and I'm stuck.

    Try turning off the lights.

  • OK, I get the stars, but what's with this upside-down A?

There's another A in the room. How can you match them up?

Look at the picture above the bed. If you turn LEO upside-down, what do you get?

  • Actually, I'm colorblind, and I don't get the stars.

On the low cabinet, right end, there are three colored buttons: red, yellow, and blue, in that order. When you turn the lights off, the stars light up red, yellow, yellow, blue, and red.

  • What's this stick for?

    Look under the bed.

  • Where do I use this key? It doesn't work on the door.

    Look under the TV.

  • I don't understand what the TV is trying to tell me.

Where else did you see those shapes? How are those buttons arranged?

Just read the shapes from top to bottom.

  • What's with the colorful letters?

    Wobbly wobbly.

Assemble the letters you've found. Where have you seen a phrase that uses those exact letters?

  • I see letters, but since I'm colorblind, I can't tell what colors they are.

On the bed, there are a red L and O. On the desk next to the TV, there are a red T and S. In the closet, there are a blue E, a yellow apostrophe, and a green G. On the wobbly picture (above the bed), the top left corner is red, the top right corner is yellow, the bottom left is blue, and the bottom right is green.

  • I feel silly, but I don't remember where else I need a three-digit code.

Look at the desk between the TV and the closet.

I was able to finish this one with no hints, which is rare for me.

Small point for the review, there is a changing cursor and therefore zero pixel hunting.

although a hint through is nice, i'd rather have a walkthrough ;). so if anyone has time, I hope you'll still make one.

Yeah, I didn't have a changing cursor either (using chrome).

Mysterious...

Curious indeed.

I played in chrome and just tried with Firefox and even the dreaded IE. I had a changing cursor with them all running under Windows 8.

Maybe I am just lucky :)
