My Friend Pedro

Johnny123 "Hello. It's me, Pedro. Your friend." Oh good, at least the talking, floating banana is friendly. What's that Pedro? You want me to kill gangsters? With guns? Not a problem, little buddy! It just so happens the protagonist of My Friend Pedro, DeadToast's new acrobatic shooter, has medication that slows his perception of time, granting him acrobatic jumping and shooting powers straight out of a Matrix film. It's your job to clean the streets at the behest of your new found, potassium rich companion. Be warned. My Friend Pedro is not a game for the sane or squeamish. Use the [WASD] buttons to guide our under-medicated and over-armed protagonist through seven levels of urban decay, spraying foes indiscriminately with a variety of weapons. You can leap, roll, and hop off walls, using your time-slowing powers to tactical advantage. Think Hotline Miami as directed by John Woo.

You aim and shoot with the mouse, reloading with [R], and you can cycle through the number keys to swap through any available weapons you have. The movement has a very slow, dreamy, almost psychedelic feel to it, and this is exacerbated by slowing down time with left [shift] or the [spacebar], allowing you to spin and jump in slow motion for as long as you hold the key down. My Friend Pedro pulls off the "bullet ballet" gameplay much better than most shooters with a slow-mo, giving you plenty of ammunition and clear goals so you can focus on killing foes with style. While the gore factor isn't overwhelming, this is not an appropriate game for youngsters. On top of that, it's short, and there's no alternate control scheme for players with non-QWERTY keyboards. But the challenge rises as you go, climaxing with a completely ridiculous final boss battle that's better left unspoiled. It's not for everyone, but if you're not averse to mixing guns, crazy, and talking fruit, My Friend Pedro won't disappoint.

Great atmosphere and fun concept, but lord, those controls are atrocious - way too floaty and imprecise. I gave up after the umpteenth time catching a bit of weird collision detection and getting shot as a result.

WASD and mouse interfere on my computer. Not sure there's anything I can do about it. While WASD is more convenient than the arrow keys, the game would work for me if the arrows were an option. As it is I can't play because if I've moved in the past second or so the left mouse click is disabled.

Wait I think I've solved it - It's a Windows 8 thing. Annoying.

Kinda weird, especially the end.

Also, I don't recall ever logging out of JIG so why did I need to log back in?

If you're having to log into the site again, it's likely because something happened to your browser's cookies. :) The only time I ever have to log in is after I clean my system.

It's an amazing game, but there is no way of getting a lefty control option. I'm getting used to having my right hand on WASD and thumb on LShift, but it's still kind of annoying. Not quite enough to keep me from playing this awesome game though.

Was fun...

until I realized the game became super easy when you just rolled around everywhere and not stopping to kill gangsters.
Keep rolling, they barely ever hit you. Only stop to kill some guys if you have to to progress, and it becomes pretty easy to reach the end of the game.

I have to say that the final boss in this game was absolutely awesome.

Kudos on that screencap. That's worth a celebratory funny cat video, if you haven't already.
