As before, you control your robot with the [arrow] keys, but this time you're not alone. Perched atop our hero's head is Kitty, and once you get the appropriate power up, you can hit [X] to summon his assistance in a way that is as adorable as it is undoubtedly humiliating for your enemies. In fact, whereas the original had you upgrading your robot, most of the techniques you'll earn here incorporate the kitty. If you're hit, you just respawn at the last checkpoint you touched. Move through the maze, gathering other abilities and keys to unlock the way forward and eventually make your robot the proud owner of a furry flea machine. (Sorry canine fans; cats rule, dogs drool.) You don't have to worry about the timer in the upper left corner, since it's only there to keep track of your playing time and to make you feel inadequate when other players start posting their own.
Analysis: It seems developer Hamumu Software has learned one of the most important rules of design; listen to your audience. While it was cute as a button, Robot Wants Kitty was occasionally frustrating, and ultimately pretty simple. With the addition of checkpoints you can set, Robot Wants Puppy eliminates a lot of the frustrating backtracking that happened in the original whenever you were hit. The boss battles this time around, while challenging, also aren't nearly as frustrating as their predecessor... although still unfortunately not that exciting. Throwing your cat at an enemy is also funny, but can get annoying when you realise you actually have to walk over and pick the furry critter up again afterwards.
While still fairly short and straightforward, Hamumu Software has won a prize of one thousand internets for this simply because rather than making a carbon copy of the original, they made a sequel that kept the simple-but-challenging platforming concept of the original but made sure to keep the rest of the content new and interesting. I wasn't really expecting a sequel to Robot Wants Kitty, and while this one is welcome and fun, I kind of hope it doesn't make it to a trilogy; while Robot Wants Platypus would undoubtedly be equally funny, there comes a point when you start wanting more from a clearly talented developer other than the same scenario over and over.
If you would like to contribute to your future mechanical overlords' furry menagerie, then by all means play Robot Wants Puppy. Not that it will save you from the eventual assimilation, but maybe they'll play you some easy listening jazz while you're in the automatic flesh stripper. That's like friendship, right? (If not, I have some serious apology letters to write to my loved ones.) Short, fun, and certainly cute, this is one little bit of retro adventure you won't want to miss if you were a fan of the original.
Play the entire Robot Wants series...
I did enjoy it, kitty whistle was a life saver. I do dislike this trend of achievements everywhere because achievements are not a game mechanic. I feel like achievements waste development cycles that could be put to better use on core gameplay. This game doesn't overdo it with achievements, but many others do.
The new cat attacks are awesome! (Except when the alien runs into you) But I still stink at these types of games. Robot Wants Kitty was also great, by the way.
The game is fun, and the end definitely makes all the struggle worth it. That poor poor cat.
Has anyone gotten the smiley face easter egg yet?
to get there:
There's a safe tile hidden in the large lightning bar directly under a 3-tile platform. You'll know it by the fact that it is stationary while the rest of the lightning moves. Drop down there and explore the catacombs beneath until you find a green block that is closed by a level 9 door. Once you get inside, you immediately hit a checkpoint, which is good, because next is one of the more fiddly puzzles I've found, ever.
There are about 3 lightning bars stretched between you and the smiley, and there are safe points of the same variety that you used to get in. You need to pilot your cat (as presumably you have gotten the helicopter kitty upgrade) through the safe points, without hitting a single other tile in between, all the way to the top, where the smiley resides.
I got frustrated and gave up after about 20 tries.
Oh, never mind. I finished in 87:21! Wait, why would the robot want a dog if it has a CAT?!
I disagree with the achievements comment above. I like it when games include achievements, always adds some replay value. True, some games don't need achievements, but I feel it adds depth to the games that do use them properly.
I'm stuck trying to defeat the square robot blocking a 7 clearance gate... I don't have a 7 clearance card.
Question!:
Can you defeat the robot, or should I find the clearance card and just try to get past him?
Ok, a lot better than "Robot wants Kitty", but am I the only person who is ticked off that these metroidvania style platformers give no credit to "Robot finds Kitten" zen-simulation game they were named after?
Mah Kitteh is going crazay on dat robot!!
what level do the kitteh claws have to be at to beat the stoopid rohboht?
@WL Thanks for pointing out the secret area!
To get the smiley badge
The thing that was the most annoying was getting rid of your double jump, otherwise it messes you up and you can't hover.
To do this, make use of your initial invincibility: hold left initially and run into the lighting. Jump while holding left and then jump again and hold up. That should get you through that first hole and have you flying. Then it is just a matter of good maneuvering and hovering.
@ Cyberjar88
To beat the robot
You can leave the cat on all day, but cats can't eat metal.
Notice that the green pods in that chamber only regrow whenever they are destroyed?
Try dropping them on the robot. Each time you do it, more cracks will appear on the robot-5 times or so and you will defeat it
@pcplague = Why not? Both are cuddly and fun.
Found this a couple of days ago. About 50 times more fun than Robot Wants Kitty, which was already loads of fun. Relatively easy due to the respawn feature. I think I finished at about 30:00.
nevahmahnd.
This one was fun to complete! I liked the fact that:
You could power up the kitteh claws by going back to the beginning after obtaining later abilities
My only gripe, for those of us who didn't play the original, was that it just kind of threw you into it. I think I died the most in the first few rooms than the rest of the game combined. It would have been nice to make those first few encounters super easy, to give me an opportunity to familiarize myself with the controls. By the end, it was a breeze.
A note about the secret room:
I was able to repeatedly get up to the 3rd level of electricity pretty easily, but it just became a series of twitch control movements with a high level of punishment (reminds me of parts of the original Battle Toads, in that respect). The easiest way I found to get rid of the double jump quickly was to use them up at the gap going up to the second level.
As a final suggestion, I wish games like this had the option to use the keypad buttons to jump and shoot while using the arrows to move. We all grew up with the d-pad on the left and jump/shoot on the right. Why do casual platform games continually refuse to accommodate this?
Err, how do I mute it? Am I blind?
@OfficiallyHaphazard
I think achievements are here to stay. Triple AAA publishers DEMAND them these days. Personally, I think they're fun to implement in a development cycle. They're a way of delivering Easter Eggs in a more structured and consistent manner (and they make marketing departments much less cranky). I also agree with Fuzzyevil about them adding replay value. They appeal to the "collector" desire that many of use gamer geeks love, too. =)
@Username: If you press "P" - pause menu shows up, and you can mute the game there.
Somebody knows maybe there's any way to lower the quality? Game runs so slow for me, much slowet than Robot wants a kitty. It's not so fun to play that way :/
Initially I found the Kitty cannon weapon completely annoying. "wow, a weapon that takes like 10 seconds to kill and causes the enemy to immediately charge you". Eventually I got used to it. I liked this game and thought overall it was no better or worse than the original.
@Username:
Press 'P' to see the options and pause the game. Obvious, I know :)
@Escapist, Fuzzyevil
I agree that they are here to stay. Furthermore, (rather hypocritically) I re-opened the game a couple of times to get the secret room and one other achievement. I think my main gripe is with games that games that use achievements as a crutch for weak gameplay. Granted, those types of games are rarely featured on JIG (perhaps there is the occasional one in a link dump), but those that do leave a bad taste in my mouth.
There is a line between challenging a gamer with difficult achievements that recognize skill and exploration) and appealing to a gamer's OCD in order to make them spend precious extra minutes on useless tasks (Congrats! You clicked the "More Games" button!). The latter isn't a game; it is social manipulation.
how do i get all achievements?
like rocket robot
rebound
look out below
the friendely robot?
You get rebound by throwing kitty against a wall and catching it in mid-air before it hits the ground.
Rebound:
Throw kitty against a wall and catch it.
Look out below:
Make one of the stalacs (ceiling spike guys) fall on another enemy. For obvious reasons, this doesn't count for
Blocko
The area after Blocko provids a fairly target rich environment for this.
Still don't have Rocket Robot or The Friendly Robot.
Rocket Robot and The Friendly Robot speculation:
Rocket Robot is likely rewarded for finding Puppy under a certain time (Certainly less than my time, 68 minutes). I'd bet Friendly Robot is awarded for getting that smiley face.
Overall I liked this, a nice bit of platforming with some interesting uncommon mechanics thrown in.
A couple of bad game design decisions I want to point out, though:
Why are double-jump and kitty-copter mapped to the same key? It's really frustrating when I want to slow my descent, but am forced to launch myself skywards instead. Even if it's a purposeful thing to increase difficulty (which probably isn't the case), it's bad for the feeling of being in complete control of what is "you."
Also, three or four of the "razor claws" pickups were only available after you get the second-level copter, some requiring you to backtrack to earlier parts of the game. The problem? At this point, you've already passed all of the challenges that involve enemies! This is rather silly.
Still like this though. I agree with Dora, I'm looking forward to seeing what else this developer can do.
Just a few notes about Hamumu:
It's basically a one man company.
And, regarding that comment about why Robot would want a dog, when he already has a kitty: Simply put, the guy who runs Hamumu owns both cats and dogs.
getting the smiley gets you the serkit achievement.
@OfficiallyHaphazard
I think one certain programmer I have played games by would beg to differ about achievements not being a game mechanic. You can make them a game mechanic if you want.
Oh yeah, and Mike Hommel is a great dude who makes great games you should totally try the rest of his games.
Just got
The smiley face. You get the "Sekrit" achievement for it, not the friendly one.
Navigating through the electricity mazes is actually quite easy when you get the trick. Here's how I do it: my right hand controls UP and DOWN. I focus on one thing only: keeping the robot in a stationary position. Then, I nudge him to the left or the right using my left hand. Moving horizontally isn't a big deal, if you over shoot it won't get you killed. Just focus on not gaining upward momentum and not falling down.
As with the original, this is wonderful, a really great 71 minutes and 34 seconds of play.
Thanks Hamumu
Ending spoiler:
Are you sure?
No really it'll completely ruin it for you
OK if you insist..
Here goes:
Last chance!
Point of no return.
This is it.
I mean it this time.
Kitty hates Puppy!
Was it really worth it?
Honestly, I mean honestly
It was?
Well that certainly took me by surprise
Hamumu here... This WILL be a trilogy, as such was ordered by the sponsor, and I'm real excited about doing it, as I enjoy them very much. But what I really wanted to say was if you want "more from a clearly talented developer other than the same scenario over and over", try visiting my site - I've released 46 games of extremely different varieties, three of which have been featured (well, one featured, two mentioned in Link Dumps) on Jayisgames previously! An HTML social game, an HTML puzzle game, and a top-down action-RPG, so about as different from this as possible. I think 3 Robot Wants games isn't exactly an overload of repetition.
I also want to comment on the oft-repeated "robotfindskitten" connection (although I don't think I've ever heard anyone get mad about it before!). It really is just a coincidence! I'd never heard of that game before I made Robot Wants Kitty and people started mentioning it. I thought the idea of a robot wanting a kitty sounded ridiculous, so I made it (that's my general story philosophy). I imagine the robotfindskitten guy felt the same way! I get the impression robotfindskitten is some epic piece of geek history, but unfortunately I'm just not tuned in to that degree. Not a Unix geek!
Not that I want to be the one to try it, but is it possible Friendly Robot involves
Not killing any, or killing a small number of, enemies?
Okay, I loved Robot Wants Kitty, that was a good one.
This one, I'm having trouble even getting started, since you have no abilities and appear to be surrounded by HUNDREDS of way-too-shooty enemies with no room to evade (i.e., the old standby "jump into the only clear space unoccupied by enemy fire, and an enemy will fire into it, killing you before you land"). I love that one. Oh, wait, no, actually I hate it, with the whole "do nothing and die, or do anything and die" non-choice. Repeatedly.
Definitely not as strong a start as the previous one. If I have to wade through dozens upon dozens of stupid deaths and retracing to get to the first ability that makes it tolerable to play, it's not worth it.
Thanks for a great game, Hamumu. Absolutely love the kitten mechanics, especially the kitten attack (I literally LOL'd when I first saw it.) This game is definitely commercial quality. (Reminds me a lot of Rake in Grass' Archibald's Adventure which I purchased) so I would definitely be willing to buy a larger version of this game. Please consider making it a commercial franchise. (Still laughing over the kitten attack...)
I really wanted to enjoy this as much as the previous installment, but it was way, way, WAY, WAY too frustratingly repetitive.
It's nothing but a series of stacked enemies you can only defeat one at a time, by placing yourself in a position to be killed by the following guy. 1 or more deaths per bad guy required. Sometimes 50+ deaths per bad guy required.
I don't find doing things over and over again to be that much fun. This is a crying shame, considering how good the previous game was.
Hmm, there aren't even hundreds of enemies in the entire GAME... Try heading right instead of left when you start.
I laughed out loud when I first used the kitty attack. I had no issues killing enemies simply because it was hilarious seeing the cat scratch them to death.
PLZ TELL ME HOW TO GET FRIENDLY ROBOT AWARD.
FRIENDLY ROBOT.
i cant find any walkthroughs and it is hard to search through all the text to find some of the awards too. hopefully caps works better
Friendly Robot:
Slay 40 or fewer enemies
I like that the kitty is orange, like my cat.
Interesting but a little boring. I was about to stop playing when I realized the end was near... and the ending! Since it made me laugh, it was all worth it! :D
I enjoyed the first game lots.
This game, although still wicked fun, is also so frustrating in parts that I want to break my keyboard with my monitor and chew on the debris.
Gamerage is a special, strange kind of rage.
Awards:
1. Robot Got Puppy!
Get a puppy.
2. Rocket Robot
??? -- Haven't earned this yet, but my guess is, finish the game within a certain time.
3. Cat Scratch Fever
Collect all 10 Razor Claws.
4. Calamari Is Served
Defeat Hoverzorg. -- (the squid boss)
5. Cat And Mouse
Defeat Blocko. -- (the robot boss)
6. Bad Robot
Slay 100 enemies. -- Not hard, and the game seems to continue counting even if you start a new game before earning this one.
7. Rebound
Catch a Kitty in midair. -- Easy to get (even accidentally) by jumping and throwing near a wall.
8. Look Out Below
Drop a Stalac on an enemy (besides Blocko).
One easy place to do this is right before you reach Key Card #5.
9. The Friendly Robot
Slay 40 or fewer enemies. -- Awarded when you get Key Card #9 (so if you want to go back for revenge on the tricky monsters you spared to earn this, go wild).
10. Sekrit!
??? -- Find and get through the hidden sekrit challenging room. (Thanks to other posters.)
The room is in the far southwest, or I guess I should say, down-left.
For more hints, see the fourth post on this game, by WL.
I'm having an inordinate amount of trouble getting to the way to Security Card Level 9... Help?
@V2Blast
Just ram through the electricity while you're temporarily invincible after dying
@G.P.: Thanks for the suggestion, but it seems that the problem was that I was missing the entrance to that whole lightning-filled maze. Your suggestion did help me finally get the card itself once I was inside, though. Thanks.
I got the puppy after seeking out the "sekrit". Not too hard a game, but fun like the original. Thumbs up.
POST A PICTURE pls. i dont know what area all of you are talkin about. i mean, where is the passage? where should i enter?
PICTURE pls.
Hopefully, in the next installment, you'll find a way to incorporate basement cat as well as ceiling cat.
Is there a way to stop the scroll bar from spazzing when I press the up or down key? It's killing the game.
Achievements have been around since the 80s and maybe before. They are not a new trend. If you don't know this, you don't know video games as well as you think. "They are here to stay"... Oh really? Thanks captain obvious!
For Rocket Robot: Get a puppy in under 20 minutes
Oh, the secret area you get to by finding the lightning with nothing on top or bottom, then finding the little spot on it that doesn't move. Gotcha. The happy face is pretty hard to get to though :(
Other Ideas
-Robot wants goldfish
-Robot wants snake
-Robot wants ant farm
-Robot wants feret
-Robot wants elephant
how do you get the level 7 card? because i cant find it!
One trick I used (dunno if it's a cheat) was to throw the kitty at some enemy, wait until it died, and then, instead of going to collect my kitty, I pressed the Escape key, and then clicked Continue game. That respawned me at the last checkpoint with my kitty and no time penalty! I managed to get 14m53s that way!
anyone know which 40 to kill is easier to get The Friendly Robot badge?
Can someone please tell me where the cat whistle is? I restarted the game by accident and now I can't find it at all.
Much pleasure! Many thanks
Is it just me or is there a bug.
When I got card no. 9, I got it because of the lightning, because when I regenerated, kitty regenerated first allowing me to jump through lightning.
rrgg!! where is the 9 card???
@Dragonfang
-"Robot wants ant farm"
I lol'd.
I also lol'd, audibly, at the final screen of the game. I loves it.
I saw OfficiallyHaphazard's comment. But someone HAS to offer some specific tactics for beating the robot PLEASE!
I cannot do a thing to it without getting shot before I have a chance to drop a pod on it.
Any tips, PLEASE?
FINALLY got the robot.
AND access card 9.
Now to enjoy the rest...
I finally gave up on the Smiley Face & just went & got the puppy.
Sekret:
Note: You HAVE to have the kittynado upgrade to do this.
To get the "Sekret" award find the one Electric zapper thingie that has a portion that is NOT moving erratically jump in here. You are now in a maze-like arena. Go to the bottom-left and fly through the the other NOT erratically moving parts. Touch the smiley to earn the trophy.
For what it's worth, I completed the "Secret" achievement on the first attempt.
The trick is to just keep gently tapping up almost continuously with one hand, and then you can navigate left and right with the other. It's no harder than the sequence where you got the 9 keycard, if you did that (which you must've done) then this is actually easier, as the gaps are far wider.
You probably posted a lot about it already, but I'm much to frustrated to read the comments..
Worse than the first one! Very annoying to have to pick up kitty after every attack.
I'm stuck...I defeated the robot-boss, and went through to the next part. I threw my kitty at one of the green-eyed things, and it fell into the little gap and started spazzing back and forth, and the game wont let me throw my kitty at it, and i cant go any further because i die if i try to jump up there...i really dont want to restart, is there anything else i can do? thanks.
This game won't load for me. First it gets stuck at loading to 10% and it shows the screen with the F on it, but then it just turns black. Are any other Linux/Ubuntu/Firefox users experiencing this problem?
How do I get past the black square boss? Kitty can't damage him, and I get hit by lasers every time I'm close enough to drop a Stalac on him.
Okay, I just got the level 8 key card. Where do I get the level 9 key card? I can't find it. ):
Personally, I enjoyed others a great deal more than this one. Too much fighting, and all of it frustrating. The game seems cluttered with enemies, and the only way to clear them out is your basically inefficient and annoying attack. In some parts you virtually have no choice but to throw yourself into suicide runs over and over til you can finally move through the area.
Just not what I look for in a puzzle platformer/metroidvania sort of game.
I should note that I still played it through, and even enjoyed it, because I do love Hamamu's work. I just liked this one quite a bit less than the others, is all.

Good luck! - Originally posted by thewagonboy on kongregate.
finally, rocket robot
Finish in less than 20 minutes
A lot of people seem to be asking about how to kill Blocko. You have to
drop the "stalac" enemies onto him several times until his armor breaks and it is revealed that he is a freakin'
MOUSE PILOTING AN AT-ST
and then, obviously kitty can kill him in one hit.
Egads. Robot Wants Kitty was *fun*. It was short, and it was easy, but it was at least fun. This game is none of that; it is an exercise in frustration and patience. I don't understand how you could enjoy a game that requires you to penalize yourself just to advance..!? "Oh look. An enemy! Let me throw my kitty at it... Oops, because the throwing mechanic is so janky and erratic, I missed. Now kitty is stuck up on that ledge that I can't reach. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to jump into those electric fields so I can respawn at the last checkpoint with it." Oh, and by the way, that'll be a 10 second penalty, thank you. And when you *DO* manage to successfully throw your kitty onto an enemy, 99% of the time either that enemy or one you jump into to avoid that enemy will kill you. Respawn. 10 second penalty. And the enemy still isn't dead because you died before your kitty killed it. Rinse, lather, repeat. Sigh. I really tried to continue playing this game, but after racking up almost 40 minutes of play time (about 75% of which was 10 second death penalties) and not even getting the level 4 access card, I just go too annoyed by the repetitive frustration of the whole thing.
Update
